  1. Same sh_ _, different year.
  2. There is definitely a psychology thing going on and it starts at the top. Instead of building on success, success is always followed by failure of equal magnitude. Coaching and playing with a chip on your shoulder is begging for a massive letdown. Or 2 or 3. I'm glad for six straight wins but if you don't get better in the process, look out below. Not enough focus on getting better.
  3. What can you say? Still not a championship coach. I hope the staff is taking notes because they are getting SCHOOLED.
  4. We need to be waaay better on special teams. Punk/kick returns and coverage. Remember the good old days when it was a strength?
  5. So you wouldn't care about winning the game? You go in with no game plan, and not caring, your going to get blown out by Penn State, and be a laughing stock of the conference. They beat PSU, and come out strong, that will give them the momentum for us. Wisconsin will probably do what they have been doing all year long, make big plays on Special Teams, and run that ball down the opponents throat. Get Ball that TD to own the his record, and focus on NU starting Sunday. There will be film to watch, but they have played us already. That gives them and us the advantage. That is correct, I wouldn't care about winning a meaningless conference game. I'd take it if it fell in my lap of course. 100% of my game plan would be toward winning a meaningful conference championship. If you're not playing to win a championship this year, next year, some other year, what the hell are you doing in athletics?
  6. How many chances will you get to have bad record and still win the whole B1G? If I were coaching Wiscy, I wouldn't even remember who I was playing (Penn who?), everything would be geared toward keeping guys healthy and showing NU a bunch of crazy stuff to prepare for.
  7. When Bo said "win out" I thought it was sad and delusional. Never so happy to be wrong!!
  8. Rex could help us catching punts. He makes better decisions than anyone we have doing it now. Surely we have a possession receiver could put back there with him.
  9. Badgers have their hands full trying to win AND stay healthy at PSU--a pretty good and physical team that would love to send their seniors out with a bang.
  10. He'd have to be out of his mind to take on Arkansas. Good luck going to Auburn and beating Alabama, on the field or on the recruiting trail. Tennessee is the only one out of the SEC that would make any sense at all, and that is another multiple year project. Texas is a good gig if you can get it. Maybe they'd like to poke us by taking our coach. Changing coaches again after 5 years would be bad for NU, wouldn't make sense for Bo, but also wouldn't surprise me.
  11. I don't see the point in having the game at Indy if they aren't going to close the dome. I'm pretty sure it was closed last year. Concur--and closed dome helps NU which is definitely in B1G's interest (11-2 NU or qa 4 or 5 loss B1G representative).
  12. Do we know for sure if the roof will be closed? For an 8:17 PM game on Dec. 1st I would hope so.
  13. I don't like this game at all. PSU ball control offense, opportunistic defense. If we dig a hole with bonehead mistakes they won't return the favor and let us out. Home field will help but won't necessarily save us. Smells to me like Northwestern last year.
  14. Defensive breakdown, players only meeting. Saturday is the last, best chance to break this 2007 trajectory.
  15. Defensive front rarely takes a good angle or is in an athletic position as they break down to make a play on the QB. This just in--you might have to change directions before impact so stay balanced and ANTICIPATE it. Heck, I can remember a bunch of times DB's who are good athletes blitzed and ran right past the QB. Shouldn't happen. One thing about running QBs--they can't get hit like a RB. Not even Braxton Miller. Cut off his break angle, get a lot of people around him (dime defense on mid/long yardage), and then treat him rudely.
  16. Not sure if serious... Seriously...should have said Recruiting Base maybe...Texas has 5x the recruiting base Alabama has by virtue of population and UT gets the pick from all that. Then add a factor for the competitive landscape in TX HS football.
  17. Thanks for posting...I couldn't get through it all but don't be offended by the natives. Some have trouble just moving on.
  18. It seems NU is in a similar position as UT, who is 4-2, just gave up 63 (on a neutral field!), and about to be not ranked. It made me think of: Recruiting Texas: THE PICK of the best recruiting ground in the country Alabama: Good but not not like UT Donor Support Texas: More money than God Alabama: Good but not like UT Reach Texas: Their own freaking TV network Alabama: No network, but SEC reach Coaches Texas: NC coach Alabama: Best in the biz So Huskerboard, the question is do the woes of UT and NU have anything in common? NU and especially UT both have the resources to be more successful than they are. Why aren't they? Or is Alabama going to give up 63 to Florida and that's just college football in 2012? For some real fun, throw KSU in the comparison.
  19. I'd like to see him succeed and felt he always "got it" as far as expectations. What he has to prove is he has the intellect to find and implement the answers he's currently lacking.
  20. At least it's another chance to vent... NU can walk through Idaho St. That's it. Bo calling to win out is desperate. Fans calling to win out is delusional. If the other team didn't show up six straight times we'd find a way to go 5-1.
  21. Ditto...nice summary. I have no problem with his comments except this: This is what he said they working on all off season. It's all we heard last January. Most of these fixes should be fixed. For anyone who hadn't noticed, KSU is now ranked 6th. They are doing more with less. NU staff is doing less with what should be more. There's no hiding it anymore.
  22. I'll play...the NEXT coach is the most popular guy on campus.
  23. I don't know how this season will play out--3-3 sounds about right to me--but I will say this past game felt like the beginning of the end. Hope I'm wrong. 5th year HC and still the ghosts of bad, bad losses getting worse. The end might still take a long time to play out. Coach's personality and image is going to work against him. What do I want as a fan? A freaking football team that doesn't get embarrassed at every big boy stadium they visit. Maturity. Confidence. Mental toughness. Did I mention mental toughness?
  24. Black helmets were decent but what really was unique about this TTech like getup? Helmets could be WAY WAY cooler. How about a subtle graphic background?? Or a matte finish on the black helmet? Jerseys and pants were a yawner. Could have been worse (Wiscy). For a second I thought TTech was playing Indiana. If we're going to do alternate uni's, channel our inner Oregon and do it right.
  25. I know there is a mega long thread on uniforms. OWH published some designs in today's paper not necessarily having anything to do with what the NU athletic department is looking at. This post is about what's in the picture because a couple of the designs are damn cool. I don't give a rip what the blue hairs think of it. I only care what kids we're trying to recruit think of it and if I were a kid, the corn helmet on the front page is cool and the pewter helmet with the larger red N is awesome. Also the uniform pictured under the corn helmet on the front page rocks. Not a fan of the "giant N" helmets, though. IMO, every major team will be forced to go down the path of futuristic looks--with the traditionalists screaming all the way--because THE KIDS LIKE THEM. I just hope we're one of the first and not one of the last.
