  1.

That bell is sitting pretty in Lincoln.

ok, whats your point? You won a game 2 years ago, what does that have to do with Pinkel's job security 2 years from now or the recruitment of Zach Hannon? Came here and shared accurate information, not to get into a dumb pissing match

  2. he is visiting mizzou on monday with another mizzou commit

Visit on Monday is with Mizzou commits Anthony Sherrils and Nick Ramirez (who I'm sure you are all familiar with) as well as with Jamone Boyd.

I hope these kids are smart enough to realize that now that Missouri is in the SEC Pinkel will probably be gone in 2 years.

Sorry to come on your board and flame but posts like this are just stupid.

  3. Not so funny now, right? What a classy fanbase you have here.

    Still funny, scoreboard, forever.

This. +1 to you, my good sir. I'm feeling generous in my drunken stupor.

Another thing, who even came up with the whole classy thing about our fan base? I know of no such Husker doctrine proclaiming us as a classy fan base.

uh how about on the gates to your stadium?

  4. They had there did sh#t govenor on the radio at halftime and he was

bragging how MU is a top 10 powerhouse in football and basketball. Also

said that MU will be in the Big 10. The guy still hasn't learned to keep

    his mouth shut.

Produce a citation and quote for this please

Ecstatic! Relieved. Already sick and tired of Mizzou fans whining about that overturned call even though they had a good angle on TV that clearly showed the ball bouncing around between his hands and his head as he slid out of bounds. Loving the fact that the game ended by taking a knee on the half yard line and saying - we could easily score again but we don't have to :)

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAA

  5. it's all good.

I hope we make the right call, and I know I'm currently in the minority thinking that we should stay put.

But I wouldn't stay put without some conditions. My biggest beef is TU's desire not to play along with a Big 12 network.

The other stuff - Jerry's World, the league offices, the last second - are things that could be argued either way forever more, but aren't good reasons to leave a conference.

I have some huge problems with the Big 10, but I've made those known. About the only benefits that are being touted are more $$$, and more "prestige". As if those two things are the be-all, end-all. I don't think that they are, and I think that over time that fact will come clear.

I see it as a gamble of unprecedented proportions, with a true "payout" that is highly questionable.

Ease off the panic button a bit. Were you this panicked when we joined the Big 12? If not, why not? The money is better in the Big 10, both athletically and academically. The prestige most certainly is there. The ability to make Nebraska a better educational institution is most certainly real, and has recent examples of success.

Speaking strictly from an athletic point of view, we would benefit in football by rubbing elbows with three of the top seven teams with the most wins in college football - four if Notre Dame joins. That would make, including Nebraska and Notre Dame, five of the top seven teams all time in one conference. That's a heck of a football pedigree. And as we've seen with Oklahoma, Nebraska, USC, etc, just because a program is down now doesn't mean they'll stay down when they have the kind of fan bases and support structures like a Michigan.

ND adds some sizzle to be sure; I just don't think they're coming on board.

My concern overall is that NU is leaving its roots, which is the western edge of the midwest and even south (NE, KS, CO, OK) to do this deal. Texas to a lesser degree. If our college kids can't attend road games without catching a flight, then something has really gotten out of whack.

I also think that we have some neighborly responsibility to our other midwest friends that we have shared a conference with for a long, long time. KSU, KU, ISU, OU, OSU, and CU to a lesser degree. I feel genuinely sorry for programs like KSU that are in even more isolated markets than Lincoln, and I feel we owe them more than this.

The Big 10 might be a better deal financially and with the "prestige", but that league isn't Nebraska culture and won't ever be. Square peg forced into a round hole for a grab for cash and perceived prestige.

    I don't like it.

As for the Big 12 formation, I liked it because I thought the geography was still a good fit and that some new rivalries would be born. And the Texas culture fits very well with the Oklahoma, KS, and NE culture. We certainly have a lot more collectively in common (agriculture, farming, ranching, and energy) than any of the rust belt states. There is a lot of commonality among the Big 12 schools - bullying by UT athletics aside.

Cash grab? Yes, its a gigantic boost in revenue for BOTH our schools. In the long term, remaining in the Big XII is SIMPLY NOT financially viable if our ADs would like to remain nationally competitive at any meaningful level. Nebraska currently brings home 9 million per year, Mizzou around 8.4. Northwestern took home 14 million. Not to mention the immense academic benefits of joining the conference. There is no substantive reason to remain in the Big 12, and doing so would be a short sighted choice driven by nostalgia, not rationality.

  6. Quality post on the tigerboard about the ultimatum:

    http://www.tigerboard.com/boards/missouri-tigers.php?message=7622992

here's what we tell the conference on Friday at 5:01 p.m.- Tiger'89

We are currently members of the big 12 and have a contract that binds us to whatever extent it is enforceable and has not previously been breached by the league. We cannot and will not forgo consideration of any future opportunities deemed to be in the best interest of OUR University and we will do so as we deem fit.

Oh yeah and KISS MY ASS!

  7.

    Here's that article:

Big Ten officials all but acknowledged Sunday that they intend to follow a turbo-charged timetable for expansion.

With possible expansion candidates Nebraska and Missouri facing an ultimatum from the Big 12, the Big Ten clearly is ready to stop dawdling and get down to business.

A longer way of saying that came from Michigan State President Lou Anna K. Simon: "Our announcement in December has caused institutions and conferences to consider their futures, and that has had an impact on our deliberations."

Big Ten presidents and chancellors met Sunday in Park Ridge for more than four hours, and at least half that time was spent discussing expansion.

Simon, who chairs the Big Ten Council of Presidents/Chancellors, said that no expansion votes were taken Sunday but that the league's 11 CEOs will not have to be present for a super majority (8 of 11) to approve inviting schools to apply for membership.

"My understanding of Big Ten bylaws," she said, "is that action can be done electronically, telephonically or in person."

Then she turned to commissioner Jim Delany, seated to her left, and added: "My lawyer has concurred."

It would surprise no one if Big Ten expansion is resolved in a matter of weeks, though Delany and Simon declined to discuss the specifics of the timing and which schools could be involved.

    Some key remaining questions:

*Is Notre Dame still in the picture, and if the Irish (finally) say yes to the Big Ten, would that preclude the league from adding schools such as Nebraska, Missouri and Rutgers?

*What will Nebraska do? There's a strong belief that if Nebraska remains in the Big 12, Texas also will stay. If the Cornhuskers join the conference of Bo and Woody, Texas is more likely to head to the Pac-10 with five more schools (Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and either Colorado or Baylor) in its pick-up truck.

*If there's validity to the Austin American-Statesman report that Nebraska and Missouri have been given a deadline of June 11-June 15 to pledge their allegiance to the Big 12, will the Big Ten cooperate by extending application offers by then?

Delany said he could not comment on the Big 12 deadline report because he doesn't "have any knowledge" of it and that he had not spoken recently to Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe (CQ).

While maintaining that it's possible that the Big Ten will not expand, Delany said that if/when it targets schools, the final steps will be: "Pretty serious. And pretty quick."

    A few other tidbits:

*Delany mentioned the seemingly oddball possibility that the league "could act and act again." Meaning that if one school is ready to commit now but another needs more time, the Big Ten could expand in phases.

*On the heels of the Columbus Dispatch's publishing email correspondences between Delany and Ohio State President Gordon Gee, Delany was asked whether he's cognizant of the contents of his electronic correspondences. "I am now," he replied. So look for Delany to gather votes by telephone.

*The $22 million figure bandied about to quantify the Big Ten's annual revenue distribution to each school is too high, according to league officials. A more accurate one is $20 million. The Southeastern Conference on Friday announced revenue distribution of $17.3 million per school, but that does not include local media packages. (Florida reportedly makes an extra $10 million from its local deal with Sun Sports.)

The Omaha World-Herald reported that Big 12 revenue figures from the 2006-07 fiscal year ranged from $7.1 million (Baylor) to $10.2 million (Texas).

*Simon insists that the media has under-emphasized the importance of academics in the Big Ten's deliberations: "I was kidding with colleagues: I have facetiously said that at the start of this process, if we had given fifth-graders the criteria, the list of institutions would be essentially the list that has been bandied about ... by you all. With much more sophisticated analysis of the sense of 'fit,' but academics has not been much of the conversation. This is more than teams playing teams."

So what is the Big Ten's analysis based on -- AAU (Association of American Universities) membership? APR numbers? US News & World Report rankings?

"Most of the people in the room were provosts before they were presidents," Simon said, "so it's a group that is perfectly capable of making very sophisticated judgments on academics. If anything, we obsess about that."

*Delany gladly acknowledged that he reads a packet of daily clips from newspapers and blogs obsessed with Big Ten expansion. "It's a story du jour with obviously lots of twists and turns," he said.

He later added that in the final analysis, the decisions by the Big Ten and possible expansion candidates will be "about fit. About destiny."

There is only ONE REASON this announcement came from the Big 10. That reason is that they want Nebraska, and quite likely Missouri as well, to join the conference. Without the "ultimatum" delivered by the stuffed suits in the Big 12, this turbocharged timeline doesn't happen.

    Suck on that, Beebe.

That's my interpretation as well. The infamous orangebloods article that dropped the pac-10 bomb also had a snippet that said "The Tigers already have one foot in the Big Ten. But Nebraska has no assurance it will be invited to the Big Ten and could be left completely out of the power conference structure if it's not careful." Now, I'm not sure how he can so confidently state that the Tigers are a B10 definite, but I do think that he's correct that Mizzou does have slightly better traction with the B10. But all in all, i think that before the end of the summer both of our institutions will be members of the Big 16.

  8. The Big 12 can survive losing one of us. They cannot survive losing both of us. I hope you guys stick with us and go to the Big 10, if only to say eff-you to texas.

What do the missouri message boards have to say?

Tigerboard.com has set up a giant banner at the top of the board that says "MIZZOU UNDER FIRE: BIG XII ULTIMATUM COUNTDOWN" with a timer counting down to 5 PM friday. We are 100% in favor of going to the Big 10, and the main thing worrying us is if Notre Damn gets invited and the B10 stops at that. But really as a fanbase we're sold with being a Big 10 member, we're sick of texas and beebe's incompetency.

  9. attended NU/TT game

Visited MU this weekend. May be considering switching his commit from Illinois to MU.

Correction, he has switched his commitment to MU after this weekend.

Are there any dbs or athletes that are going to be switching positions?

As has been the case w/ pinkel in the past, WRs who don't quite cut it are highly encouraged to move to the defensive side of the ball

  10. A Good "HUSKER" "POWER" Chant seems to get the crowd pretty loud......urgh...remember when they changed it to "HUSKER" "NATION".........that was awful...

But in my own experiences....... nothing gets a crowd more pumped than a fumble/interception taken back for six baby!

Usually followed by why the hell did Ganz throw that comment. <_< Maybe thats just me. chuckleshuffle

    best reply ever

  11. Yeah that game was fun. It seemed like the only game Cally just let the guys have fun because Colorado was so overmatched. It was if Callahan was just laughing at them and toying with them like a cat with a ball of yarn.

I seem to recall a certain Nebraska game where the huskers were the yarn.

not so offensive when its your team doing it is it? :box

  12. I duno i guess this is something we can expect from him though after the way he acted in the bowl game. But i think TO will shine some wizdom down on him and calm him down. Sure get fired up and say that was a bs call but no name calling bo. That Co*# Suc##r comment is what probally got him the penalty.

I never heard what he said...but if he called the official a CS, he is lucky he didn't get ejected...and I probably wouldn't argue with that ejection, no matter how wrong the official may or may not have been on the Suh penalty.

Not entirely sure but i believe its a reference to Bull Durham where Kevin Costner calls the ump a ****-sucker in order to get thrown out. Or maybe Bo actually did call the ref a ****-sucker.
