  1.

    Bottom Line..

He will be fired after the CU game.. IMO..

If TO had any thoughts of keeping BC, he would be rallying around BC and saying --hey fans this is our coach.. Bill is the coach and everyone should support him..

All that keeps being said is, we will evaluate.. etc..

That's it. They wouldn't even bothering to put out a release for clarification if the axe wasn't falling after Colorado.

I think this also says- there is a coach in the wings and they want to shore up the recruiting class ASAP...

Don't know about the coach.... If something was going on I think there would be stuff coming out of the programs of the people that we are lookng at.... Maybe they can keep a lid on it but who knows, look at when Peterson was canned the boards were going crazy the night before and there was talk all over the news, I would think the same would be happing now, just my thoughts......

  2. This is an excellent question, since it brings about one of the most important factors in any job - accountability. Which obviously Callahan doesn't think he has. Anyway, I'm going to give this from the perspective of hiring a new coach, because that's the situation we're looking at.

    1. The first two years are going to be rebuilding years, getting your own players, teaching them your system, etc.... So I'll understand if it's rough but should win at *least* 6 games in each of those 2 seasons. Not only that, recruiting needs to be extremely important to say the least. Need to recruit top ranked players for skill positions. Need to bring back the walk-on program to it's former strength.

    2. Need to have an intense strength and conditioning program. We need to get back to playing very physically dominating football.

    3. By the coaches third season, the coach will need to have notched 9 wins under his belt, go to the big 12 title game and make a decent, strong showing, not like last year. It's ok to lose as long as the team looks like it actually came out of the locker room for the second half.

    4. By their fourth year they should be in contention for a BCS bowl game, if not the national championship.

    5. Moving forward, they need to hold up to the same standards we were used to when T.O. was coaching. NO LESS THAN 9 wins per season, period. If they fall below that mark appropriate disciplinary action will be taken, up to and including termination. Past performance will be evaluated when deciding what the aforementioned punitive action will be. It needs to be understood that 9 wins per season is the MINIMUM EXPECTATION.

    6. When talking to the press, it's that the player(s) played hard and did an excellent job. Be humble and quick to give the credit to all of your supporting staff and players. I don't want to hear any more of this "product of the system" crap. Admit when you make mistakes and own up to them, including ANY AND ALL LOSSES.

    7. If during first half play: A. the offense scores on every possession, AND B. Every time the defense walks on the field the opposing offense is 3 and out - if those conditions are met then you don't need to make halftime adjustments, otherwise you do regardless of what is on the scoreboard.

Everything else should fall into place after that, provided the coach achieves all these objectives and continues to put out a consistent body of quality work.

THESE EXPECTATIONS NEED TO BE WRITTEN INTO THEIR CONTRACT. It's there in black and white, very measurable, and you signed your name agreeing to meeting these expectations. Did you or did you not do these things? If you can't do it, we'll get someone else.

I don't think any coach would sign a contract that put a stipulation on number of wins by when.

Agreed there is no way a coach would go for this, and the way he has it if you win 5 in your first year you out also. you would have to pay millions a year to even try this, and we would be the worst team in the nation with this....

  3. I think one thing that we really need to find is a coach that wants to stay. I havent heard anyone say this but not all coachs are going to be like TO. I think if Bo comes here and turns us around he will go to the NFL ASAP. I might be wrong but we need someone who will stay for decades not just years. If you look back all of the power houses had long term coaches, and that holds true today, for the most part.

Why do you think Pelini would jet for the NFL? I've heard this before, and I'm just curious what about him makes you think he'd jet for the NFL. I've heard the same thing about Meyers. I have no idea what Meyers will eventually do, but I can't think many/any NFL owners are salivating at the thought of a spread option in the NFL.

After looking at some of the most recent busts from the NFL, I would assume most in the college game would prefer to stay in the college game. With Spurrier, Saban, maybe Petrino, etc. all flopping; I would find it interesting that many/any college coaches would want to jump into that fire.

I agree, most of the guys that go don't do to well. Here is my thought process, Bo came from Greenbay to be a DC (promotion) got shafted by Pud, and moved to LSU (With OU stop over). Now there is a very big chance he will be a HC in the next year or two (promotion). Will he excel as a HC? Only time will tell, but this guy is young and driven. The new breed of coach wnats to be at the top and that is the NFL. It might take 10 years for him to get there but I just think he will go if given the chance. Also I know I should'nt say anyhting but Bo didnt fly into Lincoln (that was a cover) I went down and drove him here and back, even though I have no ties with the program, TO picked me, and Bo told me he want s to coach pro :) .

In the end I guess I have seen him jump ship (forced in our case) and just wonder what his intenions are, but I guess this is how it works when you dont have a system like we had for so many years.

  4. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation? Since we moved to Kenesaw from Cali in 1976 I was 2. But didnt fully commit untill I worked outside the state and had to defend T.O. and Crew

  6. At this point he has to go. Even if we whip CU 100 to zero, he has to go. No matter what BC does he get crap, not wearing an NU shirt, he is secretly giving Husker Nation a slap. Dosent stand on the field after a win, did he ever? Who knows, its to the point if he said he likes chicken people will think its a slight against us because we are a beef state. Just pul the trigger leave the man alone and let him go with what little he has left....

  7. Really glad you had such a good time.

If you ate and drank in the Haymarket, PLEASE tell me you went to Lazlo's!!!!

Yep we ate at Lazlo's. I had their voodoo chicken and for an appetizer I had their hot wings. Their hot wings were really really good! Oh yeah, I had alot of beer from there as well.

Their garlic ranch is also very kicka$$!! it goes well with anything they have on the menu!

Really? I'll have to try that next season when I'm back that way. :thumbs

You also need to get some of the Smoked Dutch Porter man that stuff is good. Dark beer but not overly stout... :wasted I am glad your dad had fun, I love taking outsiders to the game they just cant belive it.

  8. I have seats in sec 207 for the game in a few weeks, seeing proximity to the student section, will there be any problems you could think of with the students?

Expect a barrage of Subaru Outbacks, carabiners, Nalgene bottles with Grateful Dead stickers on them, and North Face jackets.

Don't forget the huge cloud of patchouli stench....oh wait those won't come to the game as it is killing the polar bears that live in brazil and.... ohhh wait I cant find the 75 page hand out they were giving away, the girl that was in charge of it had to get her 2007 Range Rover Sport into the shop so they could put on a lift kit... Man I hate it up there, sorry, have fun at the game. GBR

  9. From Huskers.com Take it for what it is worth know one hear listens anyway...

Season Tickets: Season tickets are currently sold out. An annual sustained donation to the Nebraska Athletic Department is required in order to secure football season tickets

Single-Game Tickets: May be available as opposing teams return allotted tickets. Single-game home and away tickets were made available on Aug. 21 <-- Could it happen yes but there is a list for this also... people who give every year, and MIGHT get a ticket!!

Look at the web site everything is sold out.... I dont know who your friends are that saw tickets for sale in the 80's, bet its the same ones that saw Bo running around with a realtor and TO last week.... Also I would assume NCAA watches this kind of stuff (reporting of income and the like).

This site is just getting out of control....

  10. yeah, he picked a guy...the last guy we associate with ANY type of Glory days.....i tell you this, Frank's days were numbered for sure, but 59 wins in 6 years STILL doesn't equal 76

    I'm not anti-Frank. I like the guy. He's a Real Husker.

He just wasn't the guy we needed as our Head Coach. He had some glory during his tenure, but most of that occurred because of the T.O. players.

I think that if Frank had the same amount of time T.O. had he'd have figured it out. But when he was fired our house was not in good shape.

When Solich was fired we were 9-3. If my ciphering is right, that is better than any of Callahan's seasons. It was also as good as many of Osborne's or Devaney's seasons.

Solich was fired because Pederson, along with many boosters and fans (including some of you out there), thought we needed some kind of high-flying aerial circus of an offense to be more exciting.

If it's broken, fix it. If it's not broken, leave it alone. Many of you out there got what you asked for , and now have what you deserve.

Well said and very true... Many people wanted him gone and were on the Peterson wagon to do it...

  11. People just dont understand how it works..... Look at the 50 other threads about this all tickets are sold at the start of the year... 5 people can show up on saturday and the stadium is STILL sold out..... ALL TICKETS ARE SOLD now can we move on to something else......

  12. Do you understand how the sell out works? All of the tickets were sold before the season begain... except for a hand full that might come back from the other team (not likely considering Husker fans call there Athletic Dept. for tixs) The only way it would stop is if the boosters bailed and the people that are on the waiting list bail (not entirely accurate but good enough for this). Lastly people LOVE this team and program just because we have a bad year (or two) dosent mean we stop going... It sucks to see us lose but the entire event out weighs the sting of a loss in my book....

  13. "The most troubling thing I heard in the press conference is the players talking about being angry at the fans who scream at them to "take that N off of your helmet" and other derisive things"

I sit within 100 feet of the Tunnel and havent heard a single bad word to the players. This might happen while they are on the sidelines but not while going in or out. Also I took my Nephew into the tunnel to clap for the players after A&M (how many of you "true" fans do this?) and again did'nt hear a single bad thing (untill BC came trough thank God he was on his own lots of boo's and f- bombs) I have seen nothing but old school support for the players, in less numbers, but we are still there.

  14. On Sunday night I spent some time in a S. Lincoln Bar (sounds like Vibrations 2, you know what i mean) anyway the bar tender there looked at me with seriousness and asked me why everyone wanted BC fired, thought he was supposed to be a good coach. Dont know if this qualifies as a BC supporter but its close.

    ;)

  15. Dont forget one of the most important things... This is college ball and there is still a thing called loyality... Levitt made them who they are, he is there Devany.... you could offer me 10 times the money a I still would'nt walk away from his situation.... Money isnt everyting in the college game.

  16. http://www.journalstar.com/blog/huskers.php

follow link just a small hint at what is going on..... sounds like he will tneder resignation this week, that he will step down at the end of the year.......

Three reasons to cut the cord

Lots of rumblings about the possibility of Bill Callahan resigning, effective at the end of the season. Stay tuned.

Callahan said last week he wouldn't resign. But Big Red boosters with very deep pockets could help put together an offer (which far exceeds his buyout) he couldn't refuse. The money's there, if needed.

He wouldn't be quitting, because he would finish out the season.

    By resigning now, it would:

    1. Take pressure off the players, because it would remove the uncertainty surrounding the situation.

    2. Allow Osborne and Company to begin in earnest the search for Callahan's successor.

    3. Help minimize the wild scramble to salvage the 2008 recruiting class once the season ends.

  17. Anyway, I think it's valid to have some concerns with TO as interim. But I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He deserves at least that.

The main thing he will do is calm people down from big money guys (cook) to nobodies (me). People will support him and the program just because he IS T.O. Also I think everyone would agree thagt if he has to find a new HC he will put the good of the program ahead of any personal or popular choice. IMO. Cant help but smile right now though :corndance

  18. Not entirely certain, but it could be that a press release goes out at 3 p.m. to announce the presser at 5:15 p.m.

That is what the Crawler on Channel 7 in Omaha is saying. :-)

    Thanks for the confirmation!

    :thumbs

10/11 and channel 6 are both saying Perlman will have it at 3:00. could just be the announcement for 5:15 but would be ready at three anyway

  19. Have looked at this board for quite a while now, really enjoy it. Most of the time any question I have you guys bring up. There is one though. Do any of you think we need to lose this weekend? For that matter should we lose out the rest of the season? If we finish strong BC might be here for another year or so (really depends on who is AD but cant comment on that right now). Or is he done anyway? I think for the future we need to make sure we clean house this year, and is losing the only way to make sure we start fresh next year? I know I'm going to get hell for this but hey it has to be asked. :restore GBR.
