  1. So? It doesn't start in the winter, it does however end in the fall. Wait are actually arguing FOR the 'play baseball in the fall' camp? Again so what? High school baseball in Ohio starts in April, right around the time MLB starts. Why in the hell should the NCAA base it's decisions around when your HS rules? Actually having a governing body who feels it is necessary to follow a setup that specifically discriminates against teams in certain regions is a valid reason for the B1G to look into what is best for it's member institutions rather than what suits southern HS schedules. Wait, so you're saying the Big Ten should go on it's own late? Or are you saying the NCAA should move the sport to the fall? Both are ridiculous. IF the Big Ten were to play baseball in the fall, it would die out, COMPLETELY. How do you expect it to compete with Football, are you serious? But then again, I forgot, the Big Ten is apathetic with baseball. It would benefit many schools to have a reason to drop it and cut the costs. The point about the High School is that it plays early in the year. It is a spring sport, not a fall sport. The MLB plays 3x the games, requiring 3x the time to play those games. The NCAA doesn't need to fix something that isn't broken. If a school wants to be competitive, throw money into it. Build an indoor facility that you will be able to use and actually benefit from during the winter months. Just because the rest of the Big Ten world isn't competitive in baseball and doesn't care about it doesn't mean Nebraska doesn't. I would love to know a logical and feasible plan that would allow baseball to move and still provide the student athletes all the same opportunities they have.
  2. We have to win the conference tourney to get in, plain and simple. The only teams with a pulse we've played this year we've gotten beat by. 0-3 vs Gonzaga, 2-2 vs Cal, 1-2 vs Purdue. Had we gone 1-2,3-1,2-1, I would say we had a chance at an at large, but we didn't. RPI is 65 and nowhere to go but down..
  3. Maybe you should rethink where you direct your condemnation. The B1G would be thrilled to play baseball in the spring & summer. Southern schools would prefer to start in the winter. First day of Spring - March 20 MLB Opening Day - April 4 NCAA Opening Day - Feb 17 The MLB is almost a year long thing. At the high school level, baseball in Nebraska starts just after the NCAA season starts, and i'm sure sooner down south. There is ZERO reason to try and change what the Big Ten does, because the NCAA isn't going to cater to the Big Ten for baseball.
  4. Stock swinging on 3-0 hits a ball hard at 1st, 1st baseman makes the play, runners all move up 6-1... need these other 2 if we want a chance.
  5. Bases loaded.. Stock at the plate, we NEED a big inning here to put the pressure back on Purdue..
  6. I didn't hear them say what the time limit is, but just a limit because Purdue flew in.
  7. Game over. 8-3 Husker win, ending Purdue's 10 game winning streak. Series tied 1-1 with game 3 tomorrow (Sunday) at 12:05 central.
  8. Richard Stock HR. 8-3 Huskers! Stock is 4-4 and a triple short of the cycle.
  9. 7-3 Huskers headed to the top of the 7th. 5-run 6th inning for NU. Big there, now time to shut the door
  10. Sac bunt by Burleson followed by an E7 with Pritchard at bat, Kiser scores and Pritch ends up on 2nd base!
  11. Christensen pops out in foul territory on the 1st pitch... pitching change with NU up 4-3 with 1 out in the 6th.
  12. runners still on 1st & 2nd with 0 outs. Pat Kelly up to bat.. bot 6.. need these 2 runs here
  13. 3-3 after an RBI single by Scheffert. Looks like a pitching change.
  14. Does sound quite iffy on the umpires part. I couldn't listen or watch last night because I was at work all day/night, but today they seem bad at best.
  15. Elise Bolton will bowl in the semi-finals at Sun Valley Lanes starting at 3pm on Saturday. The seating for that session will probably take place around 2:15pm. All events will be televised tape delayed on CBS College Sports in May.
  16. Havoc--I'm not saying this is a lock by any stretch. Hell, even with a series loss to Purdue, as long as it's a tight, good series and DoNU gets north of 40 wins the rest of the way (including the Tourney) and doesn't finish lower than second in the conference and tourney, we'll get a hard look from the committee at a minimum. Remember, we're one of the few BCS schools that's made money from NCAA Baseball, and our fan support and facilities are second to none. Yes, our RPI may be high, and we may have some bad losses (Northwestern), but we have some good wins (Illinois, K-State, Cal). Also, politics may play into this--with all of the discussion from the B1G about how Northern schools are at a disadvantage and the deck is stacked against their schools (e.g. RPI calculation, scheduling, season length), a 40+ win brand name, ticket-selling program not getting a NCAA tourney bid won't sit well and will validate some of the bellyaching the B1G schools have done. With a sport that still does its hosting at home sites of NCAA programs (instead of neutral sites as in Basketball), name cache and butts in seats make a difference still--perhaps enough to compensate for the weak-sauce league the B1G is currently (save for Purdue and Michigan State), but only if our kids do their bit. Dude... we can only lose 2 games to GET TO 40 wins... a series loss to Purdue would be two losses at least, that would be 40 wins if we won out. North of 40 would be 41+.... not mathematically possible. Cal we split 2-2 at home. That's not really a 'good win' but even if you count it, there RPI is 51, a high RPI. Illinois RPI is 70, KSU is 104. Those are not good wins. We are 0-3 vs RPI top 50. We have 3 more this weekend against a team that qualifies in that range. Trust me, I hope we make the tourney as much as or more than anyone, but our resume does not spell out an at large. Just looking at the numbers man, no emotion. NU is actually 3-4 against vs RPI top 50. A bit better than 0-3. I did miss New Mexico State, but OSU (i'm assuming who you're counting) was outside of the top 50.. and will continue to fall. 1-3. now, 1-4
  17. Yup. Though IIRC, RPI is its current iteration is flawed, and the NCAA has admitted as such by announcing changes to it for next season. It is, but not really hurting us this year... Our Northern Colorado loss would hurt more with the new formula and our Cal wins wouldn't be as good and losses would be worse. Gonzaga wouldn't hurt us as much, but that isn't really hurting us THAT bad.

  19. The part in bold should hold serve to two things this writer believes--that Purdue is going to win the Big 10, and that Nebraska is still fair game for the selection committee. The later point seems to be a foreign concept for some of the chicken littles around these parts, so I just wanted to highlight that. I'm sorry, I forgot how much you know. Your knowledge is far superior to anyone e. God forbid that we look at numbers and base things off that. Of course, we should base things off of someone that is trying to hype a series and get readers interested, not the numbers that have been there for years. Forgive us 'chicken littles.' Wow, Havok, dramaqueenmuch? Perhaps you should strive to not be so maudlin about this team's chances--things aren't as black/white/simplistic as you're trying to make them. Then again, the real world never is. Just eating what I was fed, that's all. But it's always the "doom and gloom" peoples fault.. And you're saying I'M emotional about this teams chances? mirror? Sorry that I've looked at the past requirements for an at-large and a team with our credentials does not fit that bill at all. I'd love for you to go through the entire SR era and tell me where a team with our credentials or worse has made the tournament as an at-large. Please.
  20. Or, The Huskers win this series and still need to win the tourney for the auto qualifier.... Likely not. Even if we lose the series to Purdue, a strong showing the rest of the way will help us get picked by the selection committee. LOL wow. You realize we are playing in the Big TEN not the Big TWELVE right? LOL...yes, I do realize we're in the Big 10 now. Do you realize that selection committees look at more than just RPI when they pick teams and that there have been high RPI teams selected before? Yes, I am quite aware that a team with a high RPI has been taken before, but our RPI will be astronomical compared to at large teams. You realize a high RPI is in the 50s? Ours is 71 going in to this series.
