With the momentum Iowa State has in the state, to snag this kid right out from under them would be a big win

Not sure what it is, just don’t feel confident we get this one

Kind of telling that he wanted to keep his Nebraska trip quiet and kind of make a scene when he showed up on the sideline. Seems like he was trying some theatrics prior to committing hopefully??!!

Maybe now we hear about upgrades to Memorial Stadium?

Do you really think the basketball coach being fired would have an impact on the job of the entire University of Nebraska President?
Not saying this is why he's leaving but maybe as to why the announcement came when it did.

That's what my gut tells me too. Could be totally unrelated. But in my interactions with Bounds he has always came across as a genuine man who wouldn't budge an inch in the arena of integrity.
That, along with the interesting timing regarding our hoops situation and the past few weeks, it doesn't look great.
Then again, it could just be he's ready to move on.
Very odd timing. I'm sure he could have waited until after the basketball situation was resolved to announce this. Seems intentional to do on the day many thought a basketball coach would be let go.
Maybe he was a big Miles fan and disagrees with the change?

I think I just discovered the Moos back channel to Hoiberg.
Mark Hankins (NUs golf coach that Moos hired this past summer) was Fred's college roommate at ISU. I would bet a large sum of money that Moos had Hankins reach out to Fred (similar to how he had Davison working on Frost).
You mean our presumed next AD Mark Hankins? Was next in line at Iowa to become AD and was hired as our golf coach. This has been brewing since he was hired

Lue- I'd be open to it because of the name/connection but no idea how good he would be at recruiting
Otzelberger- No thanks
Oats- Yes
Altman- I am actually open to this. He knows how to recruit to Nebraska.... plus it might piss off Creighton fans.
ESPN is missing a pretty big name who actually reached out to Nebraska to inquire about the job.

I assumed they wouldn't be posting any photos of him, even if he was there. I think maybe that message didn't get across to the photographer/web people, so now it looks a little silly.
Also seems unnecessary since the media will surely ask Scott if he’s practicing at his first media availability. What’s Scott going to do, lie or not answer?

Interview on 1620 the other morning sounds like Nebraska was an afterthought. "Oh yeah, I'm going to the Nebraska spring game." Not thinking this guy stays in state.

Frost and Freddy would be too much for Lincoln to handle...I agree that he will take the T wolves job if he wants itI wouldn't be so sure about this

Surprised at how quiet this is.
Would like to see it wrapped up very soon, camp is coming.
Would not shock me one bit to see a twitter post announcing the new coach before any one name is publicly talked about and zeroed in on

Wanna see a team that fights?
(Rutgers)
And their coach would be thrilled to take the NU job.
No offense to Pike but I think Moos has his eyes set on a little bigger fish

I’m not concerned about them being able to bring in classes like the kart two.
But, if they are going to improve on them, this is the year to start.
To get a lot better, they are going to have to show much improvement on the field. So, I don’t expect a big jump in top recruits to commit till the season is underway.
We we will have some over the summer, but I don’t expect those to be much different recruits than we are used to.
I guess I'm just afraid of what might be if we miss on the big fish like Corcoran, Watts, Betts, Hutmacher, etc. I fear the blow we could take if someone like Watts goes to ND. Could stall some momentum from the last classes. But then again, I wouldn't trust anyone more than Scott to keep those guys close to home.
-
Love this staff, love the 2019 class.
With that said, all I hear is about how much momentum there is for the 2020 class. However, I don’t see it. If there was so much momentum and the relationships were so much better than the 18 or 19 classes wouldn’t we have more than 1 commit?
-
What's very impressive to me is how this staff keeps things very quiet. Not a lot of noise out there about what's going on. They do their business quietly with very little info getting out. Tells me they work well together and in a very uniformed manner. Scott runs things his way and I love it!

So is anyone worried this could potentially have damaging effects on Scott Frost being our head coach?

For the purpose of having some relevant conversation during the last month I thought I would compile a list of schools who will be (or most likely will be) in the same boat as Nebraska in looking for a new coach. These are the jobs that I believe will for sure be open and some that could come open. Now, I am not trying to disrespect the current team with 9 games left on the schedule, but we all know where this is headed so no reason we can't face reality and review the landscape of college basketball. Where does everyone think we fall in the pecking order?
Open for sure: (In Order)
1. UCLA
2. Wake Forest
3. Nebraska
4. Penn State
5. Washington State
May come open: (No order)
Boston College
Minnesota (unlikely unless they collapse and don't make the tourney, then I would say very likely)
Depaul
Rutgers
Colorado (would think Tad has enough equity to survive this season)
Stanford
Georgia Tech
USC (May save himself one more year because he can recruit)
Cal (First year coach, but they are awful)
Miami (only if Larranaga retires)
Texas (another great recruiting class, but bad on court results)
Oklahoma State (results aren't there, but word is TBoone likes Boynton so he most likely gets another year)
Feel free to add any more you think are realistic. Not a ton of big names, and if we can get an increased level of commitment from the AD for basketball I think Nebraska can be in the top 10 jobs open this year.

I'm afraid Porter Moser could be in play

Here he is in his suite last night. Either this is a troll job on Bill's part or he has a different dress code than most AD's

I second DeVries...Drake returned no one and also lost their best player midway this yearTJ Otzelberger would be another guy I wouldn't mind. He was a hell of a recruiter at Iowa State
Oats should be the first call and the top priority.
DeVries has promise, not sure one year as head coach can prove he can do it. I like him and believe he will be a good coach but need to se more proof.
Otzelberger, no thank you. It's a little inflated to say he is the one who is responsible for recruiting a majority of Fred's guys to Ames. There were some other influences that helped them bring in talent. Outside of maybe being an OK recruiter the notion around Iowa State is he cannot coach a lick. Sure, right now he as an All American on his team in a mid major. That's about all he has going for him
-
I love the fact that he doesn’t show his face at the basketball games. Doesn’t need to. He knows it’s a bad program without going. Who wants to waste their time watching Miles coach when they know they’re going to fire him

Moos responds to the rumors.
So he lied about seeing Scott in Philadelphia but said he heard they have good Philly cheese steaks.
Here he says the Wisconsin thing didn’t happen, but he had a good hot dog.
Obviously has a tell that he is lying when he talks about food.

I would venture to say he and Miles have a bad relationship. This is all very odd. (While Teddy is no longer on Tim’s bench, he very much is in the loop with Tim’s program)
Big announcement coming?

This is a done deal. Within the last couple weeks officials and donors have visited Clemson and Bama to see their respective projects.
Hope is that this season is a success and they can announce it with some on field momentum and excitement to lessen any criticism. Let’s hope that gamble pays off.
