  1. Some of you may or may not know I have a website for Husker Football (see link below). Due to some serious health problems I might not be able to update or continue the site after the season ends.

If anyone wants to make use of any of the info on the site, please feel free to do so. I’m just an old farm boy from Nebraska, with my computer training pretty much being what happens when you click this

I used google for a website because its free and easy. Most of you could probably do a better job than I have.

Some of the data/pages are never will need updated and some will.

If you go to the links page you will see I also have a site on college football in general that would be fairly simple to copy/update.

  2. I am not gonna say we played well.....well because we didn't, but at the same time Fresno does this every year. I remember in either 2005 or 2006 when USC was killing every single team they played Fresno went to USC and gave USC their toughest game of the year...Pat Hill does one hell of a job. That USC team was the very best team in college football that year...can you honestly say they sucked because they let Fresno Hang with them? No.... I think this team has a long way to go to be national championship worthy, however this team sure as hell is better then the 2007 team and will not lose 5-6 games.....I love this board and my huskers but come'on guys lets have some perspective

Its really simple, they had mostly white shoes, we had mostly black. ;)

I'm not sure what the Huskies will be wearing.

Thankfully the Big 10 is mostly a black shoe conference, and you see what happens when they play a mostly white shoe conferenc- the SEC

  3. All year Sporting News is celebrating its 125th anniversary with a series of debates about the greatest teams and athletes. This month our panelists have named the 1971 Nebraska Cornhuskers as the greatest college football team of all time. Come back to SportingNews.com on Sept. 8 to see the top 10, and you can vote in our fan bracket starting Sept. 12.

I told you all that they were!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I noticed BTN played the Orange Bowl game vs Miami after the 1994 season. That just about equals all the games that ESPN Classic will play with Husker wins in a whole year They play 71 OU and thats about it. I know someone said that has to do with who owns the rights to games, but it seems like ESPN must only own rights to games the Huskers lose.

  5. Link to site (Orlando Paper) where you can vote for one of their picks for greatest college football team ever. Click the link and vote for 1971 Nebraska of course.

Sorry! It's gotta be the '95 team!! It has 47% of the votes so far!! GBR!

Well, I'm old, have to stick up for 71. In 30 years, younger people now can do the same thing for 1995 Huskers. 71 Huskers did beat the #s 2-3-4 teams in the final AP poll. Only time in college football history. Also had the most exciting college football player ever - Johnny the Jet Rodgers.

  6. I am hoping that we add Missouri before they end up elsewhere. I think they would be a decent addition. Then add an east coast team and wait for 15/16 until ND is finally ready.

Mizzu would give up their last meth lab to be able to join the Big 10.

  7. I would say the 1995 team is better than the 1971 team. the 95 team absolutely destroyed Florida and then next year Florida would win the title. The Big 8 conference was stronger at that time. played more ranked opponents. Stat wise superior in every way.

In 1971 the Big 8 was 7-3 vs ooc teams ranked at game time. In 1995 the Big 8 was 5-1-1 (including bowl games)

In 1971 Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado finished ranked #s 1-2-3 in the final AP poll done after the bowl games.

In 1971 Nebraska destroyed Alabama in what would be the NC game played in the Orange Bowl, Alabma did not win the NC the next year but finished 10-2, with both losses to teams ranked in the final top 5 (AP)

The stas were very close fot the 2 seasons, check the link.

  8. While I agree that they don't face much competition, they can only win the games that they're scheduled to play. And they don't shy away from non-con games. Virginia Tech also went on to win how many games after that FCS loss? If we're going to write off 5 conferences from the get go, then they shouldn't even be part of the FBS, because they truly have no shot at a title. Now if they're having games like we had against Iowa State last year, then that's one thing, but if they're thoroughly dominating every game, then I say why not. Now I'm not saying put them in over an undefeated SEC team or anything, but if there's two undefeated teams at the end of the year, and Boise happens to be one of them, hell let 'em play. What's the worst that'll happen? They'll prove everyone right that they didn't belong? Maybe they win the MNC? Can't say it's because the other team didn't get up for that game. If a team with a loss has a beef with them being left out in favor of Boise, tough, you should've won all your games. Much like I believe you have no argument to be in the MNC if you didn't win your conference, you have a significantly weaker argument to be in it if you lost a game. Hell, everyone thinks that Oregon should've been in the MNC in 2001, they lost to an unranked team for crying out loud.

They shied away from playing Nebraska. Follow the link

I meant they don't shy away from scheduling BCS schools. Plus, I'd say they shied away from not having their way about home and home, or getting paid or whatever, not exactly from playing us, because it's not like they then didn't schedule a top team, they still did, they just didn't want to meet our offer.

They have played 16 BCS teams in 12 seasons. If they want to be taken seriously they should play several a year. They have 5 ooc games this year and play 1 BCS team - Georgia. What if Notre Dame joined the MAC and played one BCS team a year, should they be taken seriously then?

  9. Well at least this topic made people think.

I guess some people believe that if Boise State goes 12-0 with a couple wins over teams ranked say from 11-25 in the final regular season poll, and Nebraska or who ever wins the Big 10 goes 12-1, with maybe a couple wins vs top 10 teams and a loss vs a top 10 team, and maybe a couple wins vs other teams in top 25, that Boise State is more deserving to be in the BCS game because they have a better record..

Its just a difference of opion.

  10. While I agree that they don't face much competition, they can only win the games that they're scheduled to play. And they don't shy away from non-con games. 11. What the hell - I'll say, "Yes". After all, look at the Big 12 - Oklahoma/Texas will probably the only real test for either team.

Yeah, I'm bangin' on the Big 12...

    Oklahoma plays at Florida State

They also play Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, who are both in the preseason top10, Mizzu and Texas are both ranked in top 25 in one of or both of the polls.

  12. Boise St 1999-2010

If you look at FBS winning percentage for these years Boise St easily has the best 1999-2010 Winning %

When you look at winning percentage vs. teams ranked in the top 25 at game time, during those years, they are still at #17 VS Ranked Teams But when you see where they rank in # of games vs. ranked teams they drop to #85 out of 120 teams Total # of Ranked Teams Take out the bowl games and its even worse Without Bowl Games coming in at #108.

The Broncos actually have the best winning % vs. top 10 teams Winning % VS Top 10 Teams But again when you see where they stand in number of games vs. top 10 teams for those seasons, they are only at #97 Total # of Top 10 Teams with 5. Oregon St. played that many last season alone 2010 Games vs Top 10 Take out the bowl games and they drop to #112 Without Bowls

Their winning % vs. FBS teams comes in at #54 VS FBS Teams - to be fair they have won 6 of the last 7. Of course not being in a BCS Conference they will not have played as many BCS teams and are at #114 # of Games Played Take out the bowl games and its lower yet Without Bowls at #117

Also if you rank teams during those years by their opponents winning percentage (without bowl games) they come in at #95 Opponents Winning %

The question is with a game or two during the season against better teams, do they really deserve to be in the NC game if they have the best record at the end of the regular season?

How many teams from BCS Conferences would like to trade their upcoming schedule for Boise States? I think there are 2 teams on their schedule that are ranked in the pre season top 25, neither in the top 10. If they run the table or even lose to Georgia in the first game and win the rest, some people will say they deserve to be in NC game if there are no other undefeated teams left.

  13. Big 10 vs SEC all time record:

    Answer:

    Improve

According to cfbdatawarehouse.com the Big Ten teams vs SEC school records are the following:

    Ohio St. 7-10

    Mich 20-5

    Mich St. 5-6

    Indiana 26-21

    Illinois 2-6

    Minnesota 5-3

    Wisconsin 4-8

    Penn St. 16-6

    Purdue 4-5

    Iowa 4-3

    Nebraska 19-5-1

    Northwestern 2-5

total: Big 10 leads the head to head competition 114 - 83

CFDW counts games from all Big 10 teams and SEC teams even if they were not conference memebers. For example Penn State when they still an independent and some current SEC teams before they were in the SEC.

This link shows games only between Big 10 and SEC teams while they were in those conferences. If you click on the Trivia icon it will take you to the home page and you can look up an amazing amount ot stats once you figure it out.

Using the above link and only counting records of current Big 10 (minus Nebraska) and SEC teams when they were actually in those conferences, it lists the SEC leading 69-50-2. That does not include Georgia Tech and Tulane who at one time were in the SEC, or Arkansas while in the Southwest or Chicago before they left the big 10. The SEC evolved out of the Southern Conference which had a bunch of teams in the early years of football

  14. LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska coach Bo Pelini is going into his new conference conceding nothing.

He knows the last thing Big Ten opponents want is for the Cornhuskers to come in and win the championship in their first year in the conference. Pelini said at a booster luncheon Wednesday that the Big Ten will have a big challenge trying to stop the Huskers from doing just that.

"I guarantee you a lot of people in the Big Ten, everyone we're playing, is saying, 'We're going to show Nebraska,'" Pelini said. "Well, they've got to line up and play us and let the chips fall where they may. We're going to be ready each and every Saturday."

    http://espn.go.com/c...onference-title

Bo will have our guys ready for fall ball in the new league. He may be foaming at the mouth to start.

Yeah, they'll be gunning for us the first year, just like the Big 12 was in our last year there. Hopefully the refs won't be in on it.

  15. When I first opened this thread, I was expecting more in depth statistics.

Yeah, so did I. Had it with att-comp-yards-tds-ints-eff. rating. But table won't hold together here. Have a website, maybe will add it to that.

It was getting late and went to bed.

Here is something I put together a few months ago. Will do something similar for the above players.

  16. If this table holds together and I haven't made any mistakes. It shows the completion % for past QBs (back to 1981) in their FIRST YEAR as the starting QB. At least if they had the most starts that year. Remember its not the first year they played rather the first year that they were the starter for most of the games. Prior to 2002 bowl games are not included.

    QB - Class - Season Comp. %

    Taylor Martinez - Fr - 2010 59.2

    Zac Lee - Junior - 2009 58.6

    Joe Ganz - Senior - 2008 67.9

    Sam Keller - Senior - 2007 63.1

    Zac Taylor - Junior - 2005 55.1

    Joe Daily - Sophmore - 2004 49.4

    Jammal Lord - Junior - 2002 46.6

    Eric Crouch - Soph - 1999 51.9

    Bobby Newcombe - Soph - 1998 63.3

    Scott Frost - Junior - 1996 52.0

    Brook Berringer - Junior - 1994 62.3

    Tommie Frazier - Fr. - 1992 44.0

    Keithen McCant - Senior - 1991 57.7

    Mickey Joseph - Junior - 1990 43.6

    Jerry Godowski - Senior 1989 52.2

    Steve Taylor - Soph - 1986 41.9

    Mc Cathorn Clayton - Soph - 1985 35.9

    Craig Sundberg - Senior - 1984 63.1

    Turner Gill - Soph. - 1981 51.6
