  1. I guarantee you the same guys around here who want to blame Shawn Watson for everything would have been calling for Tom Osborne's head after TO's third consective three-loss season in '78 (including back to back losses to Iowa State).

Lest ye spawns forget, the carping at Watson and Bo is probably less than what Osborne faced from the fanbase for the first twenty (yes 20) years of his career.

Ding Ding Ding this is a winner!!

One can only wonder what would of been had the internet been around in the 70s. There was a lot of heat on Osborne in that decade. People said he would never be another Devaney. After he went to Colorado and interviewed for the job there, he was almost run out of town. He would of had no problem finding people to help him move.

  2. I believe Oregon is the best team in country, great offense. Only way to beat them would be to score as often as possible and play 15 guys on defense. Would be an interesting game vs Boise St.

  3. Lately the majority of our home games have been wacky and just horribly played football. Any ideas? I'm gonna go with the state of Nebraska putting wayyyy too much pressure on these 18-22 year old KIDS.

I blame it on the two tone color of the field. Also Texas had white shoes and we had black.

    Oh you wanted seriously.......sorry

  4. The way this football season has gone reminds me a lot of the way things use to be vs Oklahoma.

Last years regular season ended with a loss to Texas in the B12 Champ game.

From 1972-1987 NU ended the regular season or a bowl game (1978) with a loss to the Sooners - 13 of 16 years The only years the Huskers won vs OU were the 3 years Turner Gill was QB. and 1978 when NU won but then lost to OU in the Orange Bowl. (Gill was injured soph. year) 1976 NU also played Hawaii as a 12th game at end of reg. season.

This year everyone was looking forward to the season as a whole and especially the Texas game.

All those years NU was looking forward to the season and the of course the Oklahoma game

Tom Osborne was 5-12 vs Barry Switzer (1973-1988)

NU is 1-9 vs Texas since B12 started.

This year you could read articles on how Texas could not run the ball very well, and could not stop the running game. Pretty much the opposite happened.

Back then you would read aritlces about how OU running the wishbone fumbled a lot or could not throw the ball. Many years NU would fumble more than the Sooners and OU would throw a late pass to pull out a victory.

NU has 2 Big 12 Championships in 14 years (this year - 15th- isn't over yet)

From 1972-1987 NU won or shared 7 Big 12 Championships. 3 were shared with OU and the Sooners beat NU every one of those years except 1978 when NU won the regular season game but then lost the rematch in the Orange Bowl. NU also got the 1972 title because the Sooners had to forfeit 3 games. The only years the Huskers actually beat OU and won the Championship outright (except 78) were when Turner Gill was QB

Another stat - From 1972-1993 the Huskers won the last regular season game AND its bowl game twice, 1982 (when the refs gave the Penn State game and NC away) and 1976 when Hawaii was a 12th game at the end of the regular season, and NU beat Texas Tech in bowl game and avoided Osborne being fired. There were a lot of long winters.

To those of us that are a little older we've lived through this before. It still sucks, but you have to realize there was more to Nebraska football then T.O.s last 5 years. We survived then and we'll survive this. One can only wonder if the internet would have been around then.

  5. Also, Texas has nike footballs, and we're using adidas.

And who's undefeated, and ranked 2nd in the country? Oregon. Home of Nike.

And of course, Wisconsin is up two TDs on Ohio State now. I'd be sooooo happy if we had just won.

Texas had mostly white shoes and we had black, got to switch to white

  6. Fact is simple. When Taylor is in the game, the D will focus on stopping him. When Lee is in the game, they'll focus more on the RBs. Nobody is going to worry about the WRs much until they catch somthing (maybe they can catch a cold?).

Do I think Lee is better than Taylor, no not really. I do think in the big games Lee looks more composed. Also, I think with Lee in the game, they have to look at more options, which is opening up more options. If we just USED more options when Taylor was in the game we might be better off.

Lee will NEVER break an 80 yd TD run. He won't even throw more 80 yd TD passes than Taylor. But, if I had to drive the ball 80 yds down the field against a GOOD defense, I'd rather have Lee than Taylor. Who'd you rather have?

i would prefer some receivers who can catch the ball...where the hell was McNeil all day long?

Paul will be dismal at the next level.

I agree, someone who can catch the ball. I don't care about moves, speed, height, etc. Just someone who can catch the ball. I would take Matt Davison over anyone on the team now or for quite a few years in the past.

  7. Just looked at some pics of the game and NU had black tape on their shoes. Past games (at least some at home) Martinez and Burkhead ran great becasue they had white tape. HUGE mistake. White makes you faster. When will they learn. The whole team needs white shoes.

Is that also why the "slimmed down" Mike McNeal couldn't outrun SDSU defenders and score?

I'm thinking he runs a 6.8 second Forty yard dash. :box

Absolutely, you are right on target

  8. boise pussed out of a series with us? how did i not hear about this

Yeah, here is an Idaho paper article from last January. I think there may have been an offer of 1 game in Lincoln, 1 in Boise and maybe a 3rd in Denver, but I can't find a link for that story.

Will Boise State football play Nebraska starting in 2015?

Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne has offered Boise State a 2-for-1 scheduling proposal, he said Friday on the Idaho Sports Talk with Caves and Prater radio show on KTIK. The proposal calls for two games in Lincoln, Neb., and one in Bronco Stadium, with the series starting in 2015, Osborne said. Boise State officials were not available for comment late Friday afternoon.

  9. They are going to be on local (Spokane WA) tv this Saturday. I'll have to watch and see if its good or bad.

Well, I watched it. The first 3-5 seconds you think about it and then you realize how hideous it is. Good thing it was cloudy or you would have needed sunglasses to watch it on tv. Think its even worse as EWU wears all red uniforms.

It did serve its purpose though as it gets lots of publicity (ESPN had a crew there so watch for it) and they beat Montana.

  11. Thanks for NOTHING!!!

He'll probably be on Coach Pelini's staff in a few short years ...

Tough start. Hope that will change.

Keep in mind Pelini's first year we gave up 62 pts to Oklahoma and 52 to Mizzu in losses and lost last year to Iowa St 9-7 at home.

it says that at the top, so these havent been updated since after the 2002 season and more than a couple of those have been beaten...

shasbot, my bad. Oh well, players back then would still be faster due to the white shoes

  13. Many football fans act as if players today have evolved to the point of being supermen compared to players of the past, even as recent as the last decade.

While that might be partly true, at least as far as Husker Records, most are from the 80s and 90s. Maybe NU doesn't do the same testing now, and the new turf is slower. Of course the team use to wear white shoes which makes players faster.
