  1. no one should complain about this call, if they didn't complain about the call against Stafford getting SHOVED into the runner out of bounds that resulted in a personal foul. That call led to an MSU touchdown. The two bad calls cancel each other out, resulting in the same NU win.

    Agreed

  2. Reading ESPN's article, we held Michigan to 95yds rushing, 188yds total (52 in the 2nd half). Defense definitely earned the Blackshirts tonight

Do the same next week and I say hand them out, this unit has been too inconsistent this year...

So two weeks straight of great defense isn't good enough to hand out Blackshirts? I'm sorry, but they played well on the most important game, but I disagree. You hand out the shirts, kids come back proud.

I am not going to go as far as to say the D's performance at NW was "great", I am not against them having them now, but have they really "earned" them? As far as being proud, this was a big win, a practice shirt should not make a difference. I thought I read somewhere that the players declined the blackshirts after last week, so if they feel they have earned them I hope they keep it up.

  3. I learned.....

Bye weeks apparently do not help

Neb prefers to love having a - turnover margin

Beck forgets he has Cross and Marrow for 3rd and Short

Jamal Turner still does not get the ball enough

Talor runs like a girl until he sees an opening

And my biggest gripe is special teams, the fumbles suck of course, but this unit needs some serious work...

Other than that very happy they pulled it off, if anything this brings some momentum back home, still think this team is pretty awesome IF they can put it together for 4 qtrs.

  4. I have read that some companies are sending out letters to employees basically spelling out why you the employee need to vote for Romney or wind up losing your job under the Obama Adminstration...

What would you think if you got one of those letters from your employer?

    Is this a scare tactic?

the last thing I want is my employer trying to tell me how and who to vote for. :ahhhhhhhh

  5. Bo is still my coach. I see many folks are unhappy with his assistants he has hired. Does anyone know what the budget is for assistants coaches? I keep reading that he needs this guy or that guy and everything will be okay. Those that think we can replace Bo need to understand Nebraska is no longer a destination job. Cause there is no such thing anymore, anywhere. Coaches are only loyal to the one thing, the almighty dollar. Now we can kick Bo out and let the new AD search with his dad Perlman find a coach and set the program back another 5 years.

not sure on the budget thing, but I guess I do not see Nebraska as a place where unproven assistants get coordinator jobs to cut their teeth on... although the kool-aid hangover in me would like to think schools would be crashing down the doors to get their hands on these guys in the future....

  6. IF it does come time for a coaching change I vote for someone who doesn't give his buddies jobs and promotes newbies to coordinator positions. :dunno

I am not against these guys but Bo dropped the ball on getting some people in there with more expierence.

  7. I'm not calling for Bo's head, and am in fact a supporter and think that he is learning on the go and continuing to improve as a head coach. The issues right now are obviously at LB and DL due to poor recruiting classes in Bo's first three seasons. I believe this will get straightened out after the 2012 and 2013 classes, but that may be too late. I see more than a reasonable possibility that Bo won't be around after the 2013 season, as 4+ losses this season and next is not out of the question. I don't see TO firing Bo even if he loses 5 this season, but I can see Bo jumping ship to go rebuild another defense and feel appreciated once again.

My question is this - who is next in line if Bo were to leave after this season? Turner Gill is no longer an option after failing at KU, and it won't be anyone from the current staff. There is also no way in Osborne's red state that Husker Nation will let it once again be a learn on the job role. It will have to be an established head coach with at least 2-3 years of experience and success. What successful coaches would want to come to Nebraska after 3 straight coaches have failed and essentially been run out of town? My fantasy list, though unlikely, is as follows:

    1. This is a given, the most sought-after coach in college football, Chris Petersen. I don't see him leaving Boise, but if he did I think Nebraska would have a legitimate shot if it can fork up the money. He doesn't want to go to a top notch program - Notre Dame, Ohio St., USC, Oklahoma - and though I consider Nebraska top notch, realistically it is in Tier 2. Location-wise, recruiting to the city of Lincoln isn't much different than recruiting to Boise, and essentially what Petersen's done with Boise is the same as what Devany did with Nebraska in the '60s. Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but I think that if the stars aligned Petersen would give NU a good look.

    2. Tony Sparano. This is absolutely out of the blue, but after seeing Bo continually outcoached by former NFL coaches, it's obvious that an NFL coach who's had success can easily breakdown film and gameplan against above average college coaches. Not to mention they attract recruits who want to play at the next level. Sparano is a guy who got everything out of his Dolphin teams, but did not have the personnel to compete in the AFC East. He's a creative offensive mind and utilizes his weapons. He puts his players in position to succeed, something we're not seeing out of the current staff. Callahan destroyed a Raiders team that made it to a Super Bowl, a warning sign that Pederson ignored, and should have never been given the opportunity to coach in Lincoln. Nebraska should not be afraid to give the NFL thing another shot. Sparano won't see another NFL head coaching job for a while, and $3.5 mil might be enough to bring him to the B1G.

    3. Paul Johnson. Successful everywhere he's been. If Nebraska wants to get back to it's roots, bring back the option and the man who's the best in the country at coaching it.

    4. Butch Jones, Cincinnati. Currently coaches in Nebraska's new recruiting hot spot (Ohio), has proven himself in two head coaching jobs, and one more successful season will put him in high demand. Grab him now or never.

    5. Frank Solich. Might as well go back to Frankie and pretend the last 10 years never happened.

    6. Tom Osborne. While we're at it, might as well pretend the last 15 years never happened. Bill Snyder did it.

    Thoughts??

Callahan coached in a Super Bowl eyeswear2allthatsholy eyeswear2allthatsholy .... No Thanks! :ahhhhhhhh :ahhhhhhhh

That was the Gruden Bowl. I don't credit Callahan for the Raiders' AFC Championship. Also, Cosgrove was his downfall. He got the players here and ran a good offense. If he had kept Bo as DC he might still be here.

    hard to swallow but possible....

  8. The reason why I am so upset about this team right now is simple:

After the 2010 season, we lost Gomes, Amukamara, and Hagg to the NFL, leaving an obviously massive void in the secondary, which was apparent all of last season with horrible coverage most of the year. I can understand that even great teams with amazing recruiting ties that roll in 4 and 5 star recruits will have a down year here and there which people refer to as a "rebuilding year."

Then in fall camp, we hear all of these glowing reviews of every level of the defense, so naturally, I expected to have an improved defense this season. I will give credit where credit is due. I have seen 2 players on the defense that have visibly improved big-time since last year:

Ciante Evans and Jason Ankrah have played very well so far.

The problem IMO lies in the front 7. I like Compton, but when I saw him chasing the UCLA RB on a crossing route and let him get away for a big gain, I almost started whimpering because I realized how much we are missing Lavonte this year. Baker Steinkuhler has played horribly so far. I feel like we have had decent production out of all 4 of our top DEs, especially against UCLA.

Anyhow, not that I am claiming to know anything, but here is what I would do to fix the defense:

    1. Most importantly - TURN THE DL LOOSE! The object should be to shed the blocks and get upfield toward the QB or RB, not wait for them to get to the line and then try to shed the blocks. THE BEST WAY TO STOP THE RUN IS GET TO IT BEFORE IT GETS STARTED!!!!

    2. Abandon the cover 2. We don't have the athleticism up front to have 2 of our defenders lining up 20 yards downfield. Either bring both of them forward 5-7 yards or leave one and bring the other up in run support in a LB position and play cover 1.

    3. Play the young talent. We have yet to see Charles Jackson, David Santos, Michael Rose, etc. Let's see them. I also hope that Alonzo Moore ends up on defense now. We are super deep at WR, and his athleticism is needed at CB.

    4. Go back to press man coverage. I noticed that we have been lining up 7-10 yards back from the receivers this year and playing a match-up zone, and these guys just aren't on the same page at all. So many missed assignments and busted coverages, and it's embarrassing to watch.

    5. May be most important of all: LEARN HOW TO FREAKIN' TACKLE!!! For the love of God, learn how to tackle.

    end rant.

It has always been my opinion that the coaches know way more than message board advisers, but the advise above wins the game against UCLA.

If we could do #5 only, we would have won that game

It looked like a bunch of guys who wanted nothing to do with HITTING ANYONE!!!!

  9. Oh the irony. All of Mitt's biggest accomplishments are all funded by the tax payers.

After reading that article, I can't see how anyone could consider him to be an ethical person. Its a perfect example of a greedy businessman doing what makes him the most money instead of doing what is right and ethical.

I think it's beyond the point of irony and well into the territory of breathtaking hypocrisy.

He was a corporate exec. I expect nothing less.

:yeah It is human nature to protect your own, and the 1% is no exception.

  10. What makes me sick is that bad stuff happens on college campuses, rapes, assults, drugs etc... and if reported to the universtiy they are all over it, but when it is KIDS they try to hide it???? Penn St. as an institution should always carry the burden of this tragedy, but I dont feel that giving the football program the death penalty should be a part of the healing process, let the other 99% of Penn St students, staff and alumni that had nothing to do with this start the healing process.

  11. I dont have to listen to you!! You're not my real Dad!!!

This seems like a popular quote in the stepfather/stepchild relationship :D

All kidding aside, its all about what you want, if kids don't fit into your plan, surprisingly there are plenty of women out there that have the same plan.

  12. Leader of men is the only song I like from Nickelback, their 1st hit. I have heard they put on a good show, but still not enough to get me interested to go. They fell victim to being overexposed, I would bet money that on every modern/hard rock radio station in the country you will hear it least 1 if not 2 Nickleback songs in an hour, every hour. Getting a band shoved in your face becuase they seem to put an album out every year or so, is an easy way to turn most fans away.
