Wouldn't Gill be named coach already? They can't name Pelini the coach b/c he still has a game left. Gill is done. They are announcing a new coach next week. isn't it obvious?

What don't you people understand about this? Turbo Gillini won't be ready until next week.

I guess a press conferecnce on Monday means the scientists in the lab were able to finish up on our new coach sooner than expected.

Unless anybody's "reliable source" is Tom Osborne, then they don't have a reliable source. He's not telling anyone what his plan is. Some people will guess right, but nobody "knows" what is going to happen.

It has been suggested that Pelini may be out at LSU no matter what happens. If Miles does get the job at Michigan would Pelini follow him there? Or would he really want to come back to Nebraska to be DC again? Going to Michigan would be another big name program he could pad the resume with. Just a thought...

I cannot believe Bo would ever come here as DC again. He's not going to take a coordinator job at a school that passed him over not once, but twice for the head coaching job.

Now I could've started this by saying "my brothers nephew cousins uncle is a janitor in the AD office and they ran into him at Shakers in Waverly" but some of Knappl theories had me thinking......could we actually get a Kelly/Grobe/Johnson as HC and Gill as OC and Pelini as DC? Turner is next in line I think for HC in the future and if Pelini is having authority issues or not a lot of offers, hes going to have to make a move for DC right now. COuld you just imagine any of thses scenarios? I just have a sneaking suspicion DR Tom is going to blow us away when the announcement comes!!!

The thing I don't understand is that if Pelini didn't "wow" The Crusty One then why is he one of two finalists? I just don't see a scenario where Osborne calls Turner Gill up on the phone and says, "Sorry, I know you're a great coach and have turned Buffalo around...and I was best man in your wedding and speak to you once a week, but I am offering the HC job to Bo Pelini." No way that happens.

 

With all I am hearing about the personal and professional connections between Osborne and Gill, I think the writing is on the wall. The only thing that would cause me any doubt that Gill would be named is the fact that he hasn't been named YET. Let's get on with this thing so we can get assistants in here and get on the recruiting trail.

I would be happy with Gill, Pelini, or Kelly, but I have to admit I get the most excited thinking about the real longshot guys like Cowher or Rodriguez.

Cowher isn't a longshot, he's a no-shot...in fact we have a better chance of landing the made-up, mutated Turbo Gillini than we do Bill Cowher.

He only coached at NU for one season. He coached at OU for one season. He is the DC at LSU, who may lose their HC to Michigan. What makes him the best candidate for NU over Turner Gill, who is a current HC at a school with zero talent, and who is a former player, multi-year assistant and so on? 119 D1 schools, 6 black coached, in a sport that has way more than 50% black players. Don't you think that you could find a FEW good black HCs since so many of the players are black? the odds of getting great black coaches is very LOW, since you are only giving a MINISCULE FEW an opportunity to be coordinators, much less HCs. Gill is 45, Pelini is 39. Pelini hasn't wowed anyone in interviews and I honestly don't see him being any better than Brent Venables at OU, where he was co-DC for a year. The only thing he has over Gill are his physical characters that represent the majority of the Nebraska and American population. If Gill doesn't get the job, he will get an opportunity, maybe at a loser program in a BCS conference, where all the odds are against him. Pelini has only coached at top programs, and he is very young for a BCS conference HC, and he only coached at NU for one year, when things were in FLUX! Turning your back on Turner is a MAJOR slap in the face! If Gill were Brook Beringer, the choice would be simple, the former All-American QB and loyal assistant and current MAC coach of the year. He isn't, and he won't be the next coach at NU or any STORIED program.

 

Are you going to call TO a racist if he hires Pelini instead of Gill? Because that is how I am taking it. Just because there is a choice to be made between a white-black coach doesnt mean the black coach should automatically get the leg up just to be PC or to make up for a lack of black coaches. TO will make his choice based on his feeling of who is better fit for the job. The bigger slap in the face is to give the job to someone who isnt ready for it just so you can appease race baiters. This isn't a white-black thing, this is a who will dig NU out of a hole thing. Stop looking for racial issues where they aren't.

Easy people, that was just one small part of his idea as to why Turner should get the job.

I hope Turner gets the gig, but I'm growing fearful that its not going to happen.

if things fall through like last time, and we start getting turned down by our top 3-4 coaches is jeff bower who used to be at southern miss. you know he would be committed to the program, and has done a good job at southern miss. and he has a good record in Lincoln thanks to our last coach.

There's no way "things fall through like last time". This time the man in charge actually had a plan coming in. We know that 2 of the top 4 candidates will definitely say yes if offered the job.

Did anyone hear him bad mouthing KPTM for getting the story wrong that an announcement could come today? He's such an idiot! A few weeks ago he reported a rumor and ran with it and to my knowledge never apologized. I don't recall now what it was that he said, but he was acting like a crazy man when he heard it.

I live in Oregon so I can't confirm anything. But a friend from Neb just called and said there is a press conf being scheduled at which time a head coach will be announced. He said it came across the TV? Is there any truth to this? He didn't say when the conf was to be scheduled though.

Nothing has been scheduled, as far as I can tell.
