I really believe Os has been pulling a big one on us. With all these jets and he knew people would be following them, he put one over on us all.
I grew up in Hartington Nebraska and have a friend who's very close to a former husker and current Patriot in the NFL. I'm sure with a little research you can figure out who he is.
My friend talked to him tonight and the Pat player told him he wouldn't believe who was in Foxboro at the practice facilities. Yes, that's right, Os was there talking to a coach. He said he thought he may have talked to Belichek, but if so it was probably just about talking to another coach. He said he was not sure which coach Os talked to and had not heard.
But, then as practice got over and he was heading to the locker, Os came up to him and said Hello. He wanted to talk to him since he was a former husker and just ask how things were going. So this player asked Os what he was doing so far from home, and Os replied he was talking some business with Bill!!!! Then as the player and Os were walking towards the locker, Belichek came up to Os and said Thank you and said he hopes to see him soon, but not until sometime in February hopefully!!!!
Freaking unbelievable. I think while everyone thought Os was here or there he was talking to Belichek and is going to blow everyone out of the water when he announces who the next coach is, considering no one knows he was anywhere near Foxboro. Hold on everyone!!!!!!!!
Wow, you are gullible.

How do you think he would fit in in Lincoln?
Where do you people come up with this sh#t?

Regardless of who head coach turns out to be, I hope he adds Scott Frost to the staff. I think Frost is an intelligent guy and I would love to see him as our head coach one day.
Agree completely. I'd also like to see Damon Benning on the staff. I know he hasn't coached beyond the high school level, but I think he'll be great someday.

How great would that be?
God, I hope you're kidding.

Press conference set for 9:30 a.m. today
BY BRIAN CHRISTOPHERSON / Lincoln Journal Star
Saturday, Nov 24, 2007 - 07:48:52 am CST
Whatever the news is, it’s coming early. And quickly.
Nebraska interim athletic director Tom Osborne will hold a press conference at 9:30 a.m. this morning when many expect to hear that Bill Callahan’s tenure as Nebraska’s head coach is over.
Osborne's much anticipated meeting with Callahan came early Saturday morning, apparently lasting only a few minutes. Callahan arrived at Memorial Stadium at 7:20 a.m., his arrival followed in a few minutes by Osborne's.
Callahan left at 7:35, waving to reporters as he drove his black Lexus sport-utility vehicle from a restricted area located to the east of Nebraska's practice fields. The first staff members began arriving at 7 a.m. Offensive coordinator Shawn Watson arrived around 7:30.
A guard posted near the area told the Journal Star that "out of respect for the coaches, we want to have privacy."
On Friday, Nebraska lost 65-51 at Colorado to end its season at 5-7.
In four seasons, Callahan has a 27-22 mark at Nebraska.
After the game Friday, he spoke as a man who was about to hear some bad news.
“I’m going to wake up tomorrow and deal with whatever we deal with and carry on,” he said. “I’m sure Coach Osborne has a lot to talk about him. We’ll sit down and visit about them.”
Is it just me, or does this feel like Christmas morning?

is the Michigan job better than the LSU gig that Miles already has??
I know the ties that Miles has to Michigan.
Take that away and answer the question. LSU or Michigan????
As Rome said last week, LSU is the better job (given recruiting advantages, etc, etc), but Michigan is the easier job (given you play a bunch of a pretty week bunch of Big 10 teams every year, rather than having to navigate the brutal SEC schedule, thus giving you an easier road to the National Championship game). All of that said, Miles is a Michigan man and that's his dream job. He's even got a "Michigan clause" in his contract. I can't imagine him not taking that job, if it's offered to him.
Hope he's ready to pay up the $1.5 mil he would have to pay LSU to leave the contract for Michigan!! That is just amazing imo!
I know technically he'd owe LSU $1.5 mil, but I have a feeling someone besides Les would be the one scratching that check (i.e. Michigan, or Michigan boosters).

I think Billy C's gone win or lose. He's done and said too much in the past month that suggests he either knows he won't be back, or that he doesn't want to remain here.
And I never want to lose to CU...or anyone for that matter.
-
I've heard that Callahan's agent contacted the Bears on his behalf, when they hadn't yet extended Lovie Smith after the Super Bowl last year...needless to say, they were not interested.
Billy C will have no problem finding a gig as an NFL assistant, but I don't see him being a head coach anywhere for a very, very long time.

First for all u doubters, my sources are past players that played under Tom Osborne. NOT CURRENT PLAYERS. Osborne has not made a statment about retaining Callahan because he was not sure until recently based on whether or not he wanted to keep him. TO believes in the university of nebraska, he believes in building upon tradition he built. He belives that Callahan will get the job done. He also wants nebraska to maintain it's class, class that most of u have sadly forgotten. Its this class that had us regarded as the best fans in all of college football. That is why he will not give in to the pressure of fans, and do what he knows is right. In the press confrence saturday it will be confirmed that callahan will be given at least 2 more seasons. This is odd, but Osborne wants to let it be known that there is an expectation here at nebraska and if callahan doesnt produce than there will be another evaluation of the head coach. Presumably a more harsh one
While I do not agree with this assesment AT ALL. Thats what my sources told me.
However,
Cosgrove will step down
Elmo will step down
Bill Busch will step down, this one shocks me becuase he has been a solid recruiter and coach but busch has lost all respect for the fans and is sick and tired of nebraska "living in the expectations from the 90's and not being realistic"
WOW
Not gonna happen. Cally's gone.

i hate rap i listen to hardcore christian bands and stuff like that.....
I'm sorry.

You posted this because this guy mentions the fact that BP is being talked about as a coaching candidate for Nebraska?
You realize this means nothing, right?
Dude, lighten the f up.
Yeah, this a freaking message board. Pretty much everything we talk about on here means nothing...I take that back. It means we're losers, and probably need to find better ways to utilize our time...oh well.
-
Another gig he might lose if he takes the job, his radio show on 1620 the Zone.
That would suck balls.
-
Great story...if this even happened, I think the 'man in the tux' was having some fun with the guy -- at least he got some free drinks.
I don't think the man in the tux exists, nor the bartender, nor the guy getting free drinks. Good story, though.

Whats the punchline?
My thoughts exactly.

If Turner does get introduced as the next coach, I'm curious to see if the Pelini backers are going to throw a tantrum, or support him.
We need to support whomever it is that is chosen as our new coach, just as we needed to support Callahan (and most of us did), until he gives us reason not to.
-
Osborne is not telling the players what he's going to do. Also, if he had already decided to keep Callahan he'd make it public to stop the constant questioning Billy C is receiving in regards to his future. Who knows, he may keep Callahan (doubtful), but he certainly hasn't shared that with anyone.
-
Since it has been reported that Dr. Tom likes what Urban Meyer has done with his offensive scheme maybe he will try to hire Meyer's Offensive Coordinator, Dan Mullen. Here's his bio:
Bo Pelini has stated that when he becomes a head coach his team will run an Urban-Meyer-like spread offense "only better".

I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, but I really want to know the answer (and evidently the search function has been disabled on this board, which may contain a previous post that answers it)
Granted, I've been out of state for over 30 years now, but I check the LJS and OWH for Husker news all the time, and try to read as much as I can on here - especially the speculation about any replacement for BC. Is there some kind of past history I'm not aware of?
I've talked in depth to John O'Leary (current long snapper T.J.'s dad), former I-Back, who was recruited by Monte out of a Catholic school in New York, who says that Monte and/or Lane would be a great fit for our school. I've seen the "I would have taken it if they asked me" quote from Monte after the last coaching search we did.
So why not Monte? Too old? Why not Lane? Too pro? (I hate to make this comparison, but I'm sure by now Lane is as sick of Oakland Al as Callahan was. Al is the Steinbrenner of pro football, kind of like we have to deal with Dan Snyder out here in Redskinsland)
Why not Monte as HC with Lane as a coordinator groomed to take over?
Turnout gear at the ready, SCBA donned, let the flames begin....
Lane said on the Jim Rome show a couple of weeks ago, that he thinks Monte would take the job if offered, and knows for sure he would've taken it 4 years ago. I think Monte grooming Lane would be great. Probably won't happen, though.

well shoot if Leach is lookin to leave texas Tech then maybe we should try for him, would need an excellent Defensive coordinator to go with him but ya gotta love what Leach has done with Tech's offense. Anyway back to Petersen, I'm on the Turner Gill bandwagon , but i def. wouldnt mind Petersen!
No way in hell Osborne would hire Leach, but it would certainly be interesting.
-
Peterson is getting a fair amount of talk for the UCLA-job, him and Leach.
Hawkins is working with the results of a transition-class and the date-rape-scandal classes. Not much talent there. He'll improve IMO.
Plus Peterson was the guy running the offense that has been destroying for the last several years. He was a big reason Hawk was winning at Boise.
Good points about Hawkins. As much as I despise Colorado, I love Hawkins, and only wish we could have someone like him here. The guy is a hell of a coach, and a riot to listen to (he was great on Unsportsmanlike Conduct today). He's already got CU headed in the right direction, and, I imagine, will have them turned around in pretty short order.

How come Michigan rumors can mention Kirk Ferentz, Jon Gruden, and Bobby Petrino and we get Gill and Pellini?
Do you really want any of those guys? I don't.
-
I'd never thought of Foster before. I'm surprised he hasn't already gotten a shot at an HC gig.
A guy who knows a guy
