We have proclaimed to have this elite level talent now for 20 years.  It was all coaching for why we have lost or were losing.  It is time to quit thinking that way.  We do not have elite talent on this roster and haven't for a long time now.  For sure, you all watch Bama, Georgia, USC, and others play ball?  Do we have linebackers, lines, Db's, or QB's like those teams do?  Hell, do you see any Jared Cricks, Randy Gregory's or TMarts on this team?  Ameer's or Rex's?  Suh's?

NO we don't have those players.  We don't have great talent.  What everyone looks at is skill players.  We have some skill players, but not enough.  We don't have lines on either side of the ball.  Talent.  That is the most important talent you can have, and we don't have that talent and we havent for a long time.  Sure coaching is the main focus and issue.  Callahan brought in some Top 10 recruiting classes, won 8 games with it because we just had better atheletes.  It takes talent more than coaching against most of our competition.  Those teams that beat us last year in one score games, all had key players step up and beat us because they were better than most of our roster.

Who is "we"? The recruiting rankings present that DONU consistently recruits the best collection of talent in the West division. I don't read or hear anyone claiming we have playoff talent.

  2. Yep. Like most everyone else believes, this loss sealed his fate. A few thoughts:

    • Frost essentially Callahan-ed himself. His inability to separate Chinander cost him his dream job.
    • I love Frost as an OC. He may not be able manage a game or hire the appropriate staff, but his offense rocks!
    • Assuming Joseph is named interim HC after Oct 1, his first order of business should send Chinander packing. In my blue heaven, Frost would be retained/demoted to OC or co-OC. (yes, i know that won't actually happen)

The weirdest thing was Frost saying at halftime he was disappointed with the offense. Look at the time of possession - the defense couldn’t get off of the field against this level of competition. He seems to have it out for Whipple. I think he sees Whipple as being his replacement and it’s driving him nuts to be so uninvolved in playcalling. (He tried to throw him under the bus last week also).

I don't know that he has it out for Whipple, however, I think he has a blind spot when it comes to Chinander.

The offense had its warts last year, but did not need a complete overhaul. And while the D was pretty decent last season, its the only season I think we can state that. For the most part this has been an average-at-best D during Frost's tenure.

While I like the Whipple and Joseph hires, in an alternate universe, I wonder what this team looks like with most of last year's offensive coordinators, a new QB,  and a mostly different defensive staff.

I’m finding it highly annoying that all the tv coverage is “it’s great to have football back”, meanwhile Nebraska fans have already written the season off and are talking about the next coach. Out of it before week 1

To be fair, its been 4 seasons and 1 week.

agree, we are burning daylight with Frost.  need to act swiftly, excuse show is over.

the Trev experiment can't last a whole season.

If it comes to it, Frost wont be fired until his buyout drops in Oct.

I agree about the reckoning. The brand is continuing to take hits. Brand is what matter in the current CFB landscape.

First we have no opening statement at media days.

Now we have a 47 y.o. man who's put on a little weight which is unheard of, especially in our society..

    Shocking, simply shocking.

Take all that and throw on the wood he's sporting and there is no way this team improves on their win total from last season.

Funny that a conference would file an anti-trust suit due to a group of schools wanting to be in their own conference. Hard for me to believe that suit would fly, especially considering precedent that schools can negotiate independent of each other (therefore can also choose to negotiate as a group).

  8. He's also got a couple of interesting videos. Mentions how PAC leadership wants the PAC presidents to sign a GOR. Goes on to mention how the B1G and SEC are also negotiating with sportsbooks on exclusive rights for real-time betting data. He thinks ND will be part of B1G within next 80 days since NBC won't come near what B1G can financially offer since they only have rights to ND's seven home games.

  9. Latest from Flugaur:

    Quote

Peak Around the Corner: Notre Dame Edition Part 1. Notre Dame has lots of leverage with Big Ten. But this leverage starts to deteriorate in about 80 days. More on this later…but if Irish wants to call their shot in bringing Stanford along as school 18 in B1G..needs to be soon.

By end of the series I believe that many will understand why Notre Dame, if they were ever going to say yes to Big Ten, it would happen in next 80 day window. We believe the Irish will act when their leverage with Big Ten is most high…just like USC. Within the next 80 days.

He also tweets on Trev Alberts comments about expansion:

    Quote

“We have a list and all the data around it. But what other schools bring value to the Big Ten?” Alberts didn’t offer thoughts on candidates, real or perceived, for Big Ten expansion. But he subscribes to one belief without hesitation. “There will be more change.”

?   Surely you’re not suggesting we have two QBs in the mold and abilities of those two?  You’re saying - if only?  Cause none are anywhere near a Frazier and Brook was on a much higher level than any of the currents at this point.  If we had Berringer, a 6 win season would be highly likely and healthy all year, 8-9 is possible, IF the play calling and scheme shifted radically.  Lol.

    *sigh*

Whether or not you agree the comparison is apt, it was clearly about the situation, not talent levels.

Which, is evidence of what's frustrating about what is used as data for making these decisions.  For instance, yes, UCLA and USC are in a major metro area that supposedly has a lot of TVs for viewers.  However, midwestern programs that are in smaller metro areas probably garner way more actual viewers on any given Saturday because people here care more about college football, on average, than population of Los Angeles.  It's the same reason why the NFL keeps failing every time they try to get a team in LA.  People there just don't care.

I would argue that fandom had nothing to do with the exaggerated ratings. It had to do with the game potentially having an impact on the CFP. If OSU had won, decent chance they'd have gotten in over Cincinnati.
