  1. To throw something different in this thread, read Fiutak's article on the Tressel situation. I know he's not an Osborne/NU lover, but what's he referring to when talking about TO hiding a gun? Seems I slightly remember a rumor about this, but lack any supposed detail.

Wait, there’s more to the Ohio State Tattoo You story than originally thought? Shenanigans? Ohio State? Jim Tressel? Nooooooooooo.

It’s not exactly Tom Osborne hiding a gun, but Tressel knowing about the Tattoo You controversy in April is an interesting revelation, if it really is true, and could open up a debate about whether or not he should be suspended......

  2. Dudeguyy, I thought the same about Watson when Bo was hired. I was relieved that Bo kept him and figured all we then needed was to fix the defense. I'm glad Watson's leaving, but I don't fully blame him for the problems. I think Bo's been trying to get away from the type of offensive scheme where Watson excells. I believe Bo understood this, thus explaining why he has defended Watson this whole time.

I gotta believe Bo is hiring an offensive staff that will have more ability to run the scheme he wants. Agree, that many wanted hires that were more recognizable.

  3. Intersting, Hujan. They did the same alumi event out here in Phoenix about a year ago. It was neat to be able to listen to Matt, Tommy, and TO, but didn't actually get to talk with Tom. It was also cool to see other "old timers" as I was sitting two rows in front of Bill Glassford and Charlie McBride was there too.

It was the first time I met Matt. It was kind of funny. I'm not an unfriendly person, but I'm also not big on starting small talk with strangers. Anyway, I'm standing in front of one of the Valentinos set-ups and this voice behind me makes a comment in my direction about Valentinos being his favorite. Was just going to ignore it, but the familiarity of the voice hits me and I realize its Matt. When I get the chance, I like to let people know when they've provided entertainment value in my life. I turned around, shook his hand, and thanked him for his radio work and "the catch". He was appreciative. We exchanged a couple of other pleasantries then went are separate ways.

Thanks for sharing and sparking the memory.

  4. I voted for the last one even though its the most unlikely scenario. I think Wats brings much good in terms of game planning and preparation, but his game mgmt and backup QB development is questionable. Since the last option is unrealistic, I'd ultimately prefer one that can do well managing all aspects of the offense.

I don't think it's unrealistic. But, perhaps I should add another choice, something like: "IN, remains OC but gets different staff (replace Gilmore, Cotton, etc.)".

I say unrealistic because giving someone else a co-OC designation is essentially a demotion for Watson. Thats why I cant see Bo allowing someone else to manage the parts of the offense where Watson has seemingly been deficient.

  6. I swear I have not seen one NU game on that channel that we won. Yesterday that had the '88 UCLA/NU game and then later the 09 Big 12 Champ.

    It's a conspiracy!

At least the 2008 OU/NU game was close.................. :sarcasm

Fixed it for ya. I'm surprised this game is considered a "classic".

  7. I think 'rankings' are overrated! Especially before the season starts. Who's to say if 6 is to high or low at this point?

This is kind of my thinking. Those who think NU shouldn't be in the top10, I challenge them to find 10 bona fide, undisputable teams that are definitely better than NU. I can't do it. Sure, NU could end up 8-4, and ranked 20-25 pre-bowl. They could just as easily be 10-2, or better, and top10. Neither situation appears to be THAT impropable.

  8. I care about winning every game, but this year, I care about winning the conference more than anything else this season. I'd be willing to lose to UT, Mizzou at home for the second straight time at home and 3 out of 4 over all, even ISU two in a row. A BCS game, even if its the NC, would just be gravy. I want the Big12 title this year!

  9. I always thought the whole "greatest fans" statement was compliments givin' to the fanbase by those in the media, coaches from other programs, fans of other programs, etc. I never understood it to be a self-declaration.

Pat Forde even responded to someone's question about it, stating something to the fact that Husker fans trot out those "greates fans" quotes from others every chance we get. Well, isn't referencing other's opinions (expert?) one of the foundations of a good argument/debate? I thought Forde was way off on his assessment of the situation.

  10. I always wonder about the "what if" from a Husker standpoint. Would TO have stuck around as long as he did? Remember he had some helth issues. I doubt he would've stayed long enough for his 3rd in '97. Depending on when TO left, would Bill Byrne have left as AD? Probably, but we'll never know. Solich probably still becomes head coach, but doubtful that he lands Pelini earlier than he did. How long does Solich's tenure last? Depending on when TO actually left, and depending on who gets hired as AD, we probably never see Callahan as coach. Very interesting.

  11. I can't believe Husker 37 went over there to try to talk sense into them. :laughpound

When you see that language and they rate their posters as dbags and azzhats, probably not going to have a reasonable conversation.

I like the "gal" that talking about NU using some foul language, and then talking about how a church function caused her to miss a game. :LOLtartar

  12. Classy move st8grad! Regarding our rivalries, I don't consider ourselves having one at this point. Even though most Husker fans have panged for the OU/NU rivalry, OU and many of their fans have not reciprocated since Big12. Most of us never considered CU a rivalry, although CU did. Right now, Mizzou of all teams, is probably closest to being considered a rival. Outside of OU, the former big8 teams were just speed bumps on the way to the Orange Bowl. Despite the recent increase in UT "hate", none of the new big12 teams would be considered a rival. We just haven't played for enough time.

From what I've read, it sounds like we've got some good foundations in place for potential new rivals.

  13. Nebraska fans are in for a shock. The Big Ten "West" is far more competitive than they think. To believe that Kansas (we're talking about football here...), Kansas State, Iowa State, Missouri, and Colorado are superior football squads than Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northwestern, and Illinois is a really big oversight. Just look at the numbers.

I would think any perceived lack of competiviteness would cheese off Iowa and Wisky fans that I'm sure would believe that NU, UW, and IU should be looked at as equal to PSU, OSU, and UM.

  14. Too bad there won't be one last game in Boulder, I wanted to go out with a bang. Endless stories of piss bombs, grandmothers getting beer poured over them, overturned burning vehicles with Nebraska tags and so forth, if you have to go out, go out with style!!!! lol

On a serious note though I wonder how many Husker fans will actually be just a little sad when they see Ralphie run for the last time come this Thanksgiving?

Count me in. I actually hope we cheer when our former Big8 bretheren enter the field this last year regardless of any true, or perceived, past acrimony.

  15. According to an insider from HI the PAC had interest, but they just weren't our first choice. The 10 offers us a great tv-deal, great academic opportunties via the CIC, and closer proximity to conference-members we fit in well with.

Exactly! On top of all that, other than perhaps the SEC, is there a more stable conference? Like TO said, we've got to look at this 50-100 years out. I'm not convinced this whole Pac-16 or whatever actually works out. I wouldn't want NU to again have to conference realign in 15-20 years.

As an AZ resident, I would've enjoyed it, but the ultimately, the correct decision was made.
