  1. It doesn't matter. In a few weeks people will start noticing Nebraska again, I have no doubt!

Yep! Look, I've been banging this drum when I can: People outside of the Husker family dont quite understand the "Nebraska way" attititude and how this can translate onto the field. Strictly from a tangible perspective, its easy to understand why many aren't "respecting" the Huskers. Many don't believe in the intangibles that we believe him because other programs don't embrace them like this one does. Those intangibles that many successful programs have is one of the biggest reasons that his NFL-like program didnt' work.

  2. Actually I like, Pete. I've been reading his stuff for years. I like that he doesnt just regurgitate what everyone else thinks. I do plan on emailing him since I too felt that he wasn't giving NU a proper analysis. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that he was pretty bullish on NU last year and then the games actually took place. Maybe he doesnt want to get burned again. In any event, I believe that its difficult for outsiders to understand why many of us believe that NU will be a 8-9 win team. Many of us, I think, are looking at the fact that some of the untangibles that "we" feel made us great through the years are coming back and figuring that that will translate into wins. At face value, you can't expect outsiders, "expert" or not, to buy into that.

  3. How long have you all been Husker fans? In the 80's and 90's NU would generally make lists like these because it was an intimidating place to play with the "Red Sea" and then later the tunnell walk addition. Remember the 40 straight home victories? If the team starts protecting home turf again, Memorial Stadium will once again be considered a tough place to play and the fans will be considered a part of it.

  4. There's not much I liked about the previous administration, but I can't argue with what they did with the nonconference schedule. The Big 12 is very very good. Why schedule more top 25 teams to play against when we have 5 of the 12 teams in the Big 12 in the top 25? However, if I had to choose I would take any of the Florida schools but would want the game played in like November and hope for a blizzard. I still think there should be a bowl game in Denver called the snowbowl and only invite teams from the south to play.

There is the Micron PC Bowl, or whatever the hell its called, in Boise.

  5. While it may not be subjective, it surely changes the amount of time per play the offense has. For example, let's assume a QB throws an incomplete 40-60 yard pass. The new rule has the clock starting when the play is blown dead. The ref's at this point have to get the ball some 40-60 yards and spotted while the play clock is running which could take quite a bit of time. Now, compare this to running between the tackles where the ref just walks over and spots the ball right where the run ended. Quite a bit of difference in the amount of time the offense has per play depending on what they did the prior play.

Maybe Cy can answer this, but wouldnt they just throw in another ball from the sideline? I cant see the ref chasing after a football like a little league soccer goalie after a missed shot passed the goal line.

Ref: "Go get it, Mr. Head Linesman."

HL: "But I had to go get it the last time."

    Ref: <_<

HL: "(sigh)" off he runs to go get it

  6. Interesting analysis regarding the tunnel walk. Excellent post. I think your analysis about BC is old news though. I think most of us realize his NFL/business-like running of the team was not conducive to winning college football. The one thing I disagreed with was your analysis about being a pro prospect. The scouts don't care about win/loss records. Yes, being on a great team may get you more TV face time, but the NFL scouts see deeper than that through extensive research, end of year all-star games, and combine-like workouts.

  7. Let's schedule Miami for the last game in the season with sub-freezing wind chills.

I'd luv to see that too. But alas, it'll never happen.

The article points out more reasons to dislike those that had walked behind the rows.

In lieu of SI's article about conference superiority, Mandel put out this donation challenge where you can dontate to causes in your favorite conference's region. (I beleive there were 2 NE ones that werent fully funded.) Only 1 person besides me at donated anything as reps of the Big12 conference fans, so I thought I'd post the story link if anyone's interested.

  9. Its absolutely possible. Whether the powers that be would ever allow it is another matter. Other conferences that don't play all of the teams every year make it happen. (see OSU/Mich, Fla/UGA, USC/UCLA prior to the Pac-10 scheduling changes)

  10. Stop sending in the Fair Catch Unit from the sidelines.

    Last 5 seasons:

    2007- 12 games, 17 returns 8.2 yds (17? Are you kidding me?)

    2006- 14 games, 34 returns 8.2 yds (committee)

    2005- 12 games, 49 returns 12.9 yds (best season - committee)

    2004- 11 games, 30 returns <22 returns for The Great Santino Panico @3.1yds a return :w00t >

    2003- 13 games, 39 returns 9.7 yds (Josh Davis)

There needs to be an emoticon for barfing.

That is pretty ill. I guess you only get 17 returns when you can't force the other team to punt.

  11. It depends on the opponent. I like the night games at home for the "big" games. I think its a more intimidating environment at night. (Thats why I've hated it over the last 10 years or so that when we play Mizzou at home, its during the day, but at Mizzou, the games seem to be mostly at night.) When its the Baylors and Western Michigans of the world, I prefer the day games.

  12. I know it's a big tradition but I'm trying to piece together and figure out in my mind, how does having a bunch of Div II talent on the sidelines help Nebraska become a championship team. Or does it not. It's just a sentimental thing for some small town kid to where a jersey but would probably never get to see the field. He's just a punching bag for the 4 star lineman from Texas or something.

Get real. If the walk-on program is as you see it, then of course NU would've never taken that route through the years. Since there's been 5 national titles, many other near misses, and great seasons, your idea of what the walk on program is and has been over the years is quite misguided.

  13. - IMO a SEC or Big 12 network will not take the best games off of TV. Not if coaches still want to recruit nationally and schools still want to make money. Much more likely is potential access to games you would have never been able to see before unless you paid for ESPN GamePlan if that.

There it is. Thats why they won't have games picked up by the "networks" go to PPV. It would kill recruiting for many programs.

  14. Jesus... I need to get the ball more. 4.8 yards per carry. C'mon coach!

Also the leading tackler for the Red squad, I see... :bonez

Be cool there, Red. I'll keep letting the D key on me, so that you have those holes to get 4.8 per!

My bruising 200 lb. frame is well suited to be the focal point of this offense. :koolaid2:
