  1. Trying to plan a trip up for the Penn State game. I remember hearing or seeing something about the BiG not playing night games in November, is that true? If so that would put it down for either 11 or 2:30 slot? Thanks!

  2. Could be the perfect time for something like this. Look what happened in the 1997 bowl game, team came together and played inspired and lights out for Dr. Tom. Exactly what we need to see Saturday night! Glad I got my ticket and gonna make my way up for my birthday and the Wisky game!

  3. -Martinez has not progressed like husker fans have hoped

-Our line play on both sides of the ball is lackluster...we got pushed around a lot

    -Kenny Bell is a boss

-Ameer Abdullah has a bright future, but we missed Rex Burkhead tonight

-We need a leader of the defensive side of the ball

-Losing Dennard and David hurt just as much as I feared it would

-Pelini isn't the defensive godsend that we all thought he was

When put under pressure, people revert to old habits.....see Taylor Martinez & any golfer that's tried to change their swing.

    Agreed

    Agreed

Not sure Rex would have done much better tonight with the play calling

    Agreed wholeheartedly

    Amen!

We need more than Compton in the middle on the majority of plays, and then when he leaves to cover someone we're f&*%$&*&$d!

  4. Not to mention the play calling by Beck, can't decide which improvement I'm more impressed by, Martinez or Beck. Offense looked pretty darn good for the first game out of the chutes, with our bell-cow only playing 1 series.

  5. Braxton Miller is more than capable of ruining our day through the air.

Bo's record of dealing with mobile quarterbacks should speak for itself when discussing concerns with Michigan and Ohio State.

The Ohio State game has me worried. Very worried. We had a lot of luck that enabled us to win that game last year. I think Ohio State is going to want some payback and the game is in Columbus. Wisconsin does not scare me at all. New QB and the game is in Lincoln. This will be our payback game. If our offense and defense even make modest strides, we could have a huge season barring injuries at key positions.

I'd like to feel that way as well, but Texas a few years ago was supposed to be our "payback" game. The hype of the game, and the new uni's, I hope we fare better this year unlike that game.

  6. I believe someone said on ESPNU today that only the schools in the B1G conference are doing 4 year scholarships and that the NCAA may have all other conferences do the same thing.

We'll see who wins that pissing match, the SEC will NOT be happy with that. Of course, if someone transfers out to another school, it'll still probably vacate their scholly, but having 4 year scholarships should make it harder for the SEC to oversign.

  7. My problem with the whole this is they usually pick the most opportune time to show Bo on the sideline, after we've done something dumb or had a poor call go against us. They're not showing him the other 99% of the time. I think Bo gets an unfair rap for his tirades because that's all that seems to make the broadcast. He had every right to blow up on the sidelines when our offense couldn't stop shooting ourselves in the foot the second half of the bowl game.

Wow, doom and gloom, woe is me, the sky is falling, the world is ending. I hope Nebraska comes out inspired and shocks "the world"

South Carolina (30) over Nebraska: Capital One Bowl, Jan. 2 PickCenter Matchup in.gif

South Carolina didn't win the SEC East this year, but the Gamecocks beat every team in the division and won 10 games for just the second time in school history. That wasn't surprising, since this is the best era in the 120-year history of the program and the team entered the season as the division favorite. What's surprising is that Carolina accomplished this despite the midseason loss of a preseason Heisman candidate at running back and the SEC's most accomplished returning quarterback. Losing Marcus Lattimore and Stephen Garcia caused Steve Spurrier to rely on the team's outstanding defense, and it wasn't until the final game of the season that the offense showed true progress with Connor Shaw under center. The blowout of rival Clemson validated Spurrier as an adaptable offensive mastermind and Shaw as a player who can lead the team to greater heights next season. Carolina has limped into -- and subsequently tanked in -- its past three bowl games. This year, on the heels of a landmark performance by Shaw, the team is buying into its future like never before. The team's attitude entering the postseason is different this year, partly because it's the most prestigious postseason assignment in school history but largely because what Shaw did against Clemson has made him the real leader of the team for the first time. With the offense on the upswing and a defensive front that's the beneficiary of a mismatch against a weak Nebraska offensive line, Carolina is confident heading into this matchup. That's a lot more than can be said of Nebraska, which after four years is only starting to realize that the program is failing under Bo Pelini. The 66th-ranked rush defense is not as advertised; the coach's right-hand man is out the door for a Sun Belt gig; and the offense -- under mercurial triggerman Taylor Martinez and the weakest offensive staff in the Big Ten -- has yet to craft an identity and is primarily defined by its lack of ball security. These programs are moving in opposite directions.

  9. Lo, how many games do you think we could have legitimately put in our backups in the last four years? Specifically, which position and which game(s) should "the backup" have played?

It's all well and good to rant that we're not playing the backups. Personally, I think Carnes should have seen time in the fourth quarter against Iowa last Friday, but even then, all it took was one pick-six and it's a one-possession game.

To get the backups reps, you're going to have to find games where we were comfortably ahead, not still learning a new offense/defense, and/or had a starter with enough experience that you could unequivocally say that he knows what he needs to know, and can watch the rest of the game.

I can't think of more than two or three games, and none in the past two years, that fit this criteria. Can you? What about the rest of the Bo Pelini era?

Couldn't agree more, that's my biggest gripe with the Pelini era, we're perfectly content to take the "air out of the ball" and go ultra conservative when we get up by 2 touchdowns. The Iowa game infuriated me, we get up 20-0 and all of a sudden it's hand-off up the middle 3 times and punt. Ridiculous. It's like going into 4 corners in basketball with 6 minutes to go, you end up losing a lot of the time because you lose your momentum and it's hard to get it back. I long for the days of beating people by 6 or 7 touchdowns because it was usually the 2nd and 3rd teams piling on the points at the end.

  10. Take out the talent issues (is Carnes good, is he not) and the fact remains for whatever reason, Bo has issues playing anyone besides the starters. Has any second

string player really seen significant playing time in the time Bo has been here (other than injury) ? There has been some switching to try and find chemistry, but no consistent developing or playing time for those further down the depth chart. It has been a staple with Bo as a coach.

Uh..... what? I think you need to go look at the participation list.

Participation over healthy guys? The only reason some got in on the O line and the D line was injuries pure and simple. Bo didn't play any of them to develop them. Cooper and SJB to corner. Was this for development or lack of experience or trying to "find" the right guys? The subs were not in there to develop depth and get experience. Game 6 until we had a set secondary. Game 6. The guys running in and out were trying to get starting time, not a plan by Bo to get depth and experience.

Look at last year (year 3) and see what we had returning this year at the skill positions. No RB besides Rex, QB Martinez, only Kinnie with a catch, Cam at DE, Dennard at CB, no one at PK, return or punter.

This year more of the same. No one coming in to get reps unless the starter is injured. The O line rotated at Udub and really never again. I like Bo, but to say this staff is developing depth and experience is crazy IMO.

It's amazing why Carnes didn't see more action, look at his Passing efficiency, 209!!! Completion %, 100%. Unreal, kid should have seen the field a lot more!! :sarcasm
