  1. I always thought it was strange that it was the overall conference record that determined the division champion(s) rather than the record in the division. NU was 5-0 in the North last year and MU was 4-1 yet we were co-champs. We kind of backed into being co-champs the same way in 2008 but it doesn't make it any less strange IMO.

Any idea if the B1G is going to be the same way?

I've always been critical of the "other" conference's method - especially with the unequal scheduling with the other division. You can clearly be the best team in your division, but get the two best teams from the other division at their place and lose by 1 point each. A team you soundly beat gets nothing but cup cakes in the other division, and end up with a better record

Yeah this has never made sense to me. I would like to know how the B1G is going to do this. In division games should be all that count towards being crowned division champs.

  2. No matter what the deal is, the fact that Texas is still getting the lump sum of all of this, the fact that they have their own network, and the fact that they (and so far Oklahoma) are not participating in the Big 12 Branded network speaks volumes.

I still say, the Big 12-2 conference will implode within the next five years, with Texas going indy and Oklahoma joining the SEC or Pac-12.

  3. Great read. This quote here struck me the most.

“There was such a negative air around everything ... It was his decision as much as anything. He had said, ‘I’ve got to move on.’ You get to the point where you get beat up the way he was getting beat up, I mean, he has goals. He’s done a lot in his career. It had become like the snowball was running so fast, it was out of control. He wanted to remove himself from the situation as much as anything else."

For all those people that criticize every move that Pelini makes, make note, we can cause a coach to want to leave. Yes a lot of people wanted Wats gone...but I take this quote as saying it effects everyone of the coaches. This isn't only an issue with fans hammering him but also the media. It always takes a toll on their opinions and wants concerning their job.

You're exactly right. No other college fanbase out there would have the gall to hammer their coach, and I'm sure there's also no other media that would do that to a coach.

The guy didn't say we were the only fanbase guilty of this, only that we are in fact guilty of it.

    Yeah this ^

I know every fanbase does it and they have the right to. What I am saying is no matter what anyone thinks, the fan base and their reaction to things does cause coaches to think this. They are only human and I can see how some of them only can take so much.

I in no way am indicating I think the Husker fan base is more guilty of this then other schools either.

If the fanbase's reaction to Watson helped drive him off, then fantastic. It's not like we lost an effective coach. Far more often than not, fans are going to complain about bad coaches. Maybe programs should listen to their fans more.

Yep because we as fans know more then coaches or ADs at top tier DI programs. :sarcasm

I am as glad as you that Wats is gone, but there are reasons why they get paid the millions and we just watch. Fans go to games yes, but I have to think they are a little more qualified to make the decisions on who coaches and who doesn't. We have a right to b*$#h and moan as much as we want but to think that our choice would pan out better then the guys that do this for a living is just wrong. If they took our opinions on hiring coaches and which players to play we would have a new head coach every year, in some cases multiple times during the same year.

Look at Martinez - a couple games into the season you would have seen on this board threads that thought we were witnessing the next coming...a couple weeks later we were hoping that he would leave the team. Hell there were even people calling for Pelini's head after his rants and wanting him gone.

  5. Yep today - 12PM. I was hoping to find someone on Twitter that will be sending out updates but not sure who is going to be there. Typically would follow Sean Callahan but sounds like he is at the boys state highschool bball tourney.

  6. I thought Penn St was your appointed rival? It won't be permanant end of the season?

While we're here, did the Big10 reschedule the entire conference in just one year?

Penn State is the appointed cross-division game. IDK if they ment it to be a rivalry game or not, but I am sure it will be a big game every year, as every Big10 game should be. It wasn't scheduled to be the Thanksgiving weekend game though - NU/Iowa was set that weekend when they released the schedule.

  8. Best = Shatel

    Worst = Dick

Dick really has pushed me away not only with his coverage of the coaching search but also his coverage of the Huskers basketball team. I used to follow him on Twitter to get updates but I got fed up with everything he said. Never gave anyone any credit for doing anything good.

Example - Huskers beat Texas in bball....not a single line/comment. Huskers lose to ANYONE he drops 15-20 different lines about how bad they are and how inconsistent. I get it, they were inconsistent and lost to bad teams, but come on...absolutely nothing to say about one of the greatest victories in recent Husker BBall history? He's just as bad as local Omaha news, never responds to anything positive, it doesn't get the attention. To me, he is definitely trying to become a polarizing figure for his own professional gain. Not saying he should never be critical - but give the damn players some credit sometimes instead of always berating and criticizing. Just makes you seem like a bitter, hateful Hawkeye fan.

  9. Honest opinion, The NCAA needs to take a hard line against Tressel, harder then the one that took against the players involved. I don't agree with the rule, it is their stuff, but its a rule, they all know that rule, and still disregarded it.

What Tressel did, by sweeping it under the rug, is much worse. What else has he not reported? Don't get me wrong, I think all schools/coaches do this. Anyone that doesn't is living in a dream world. But Tressel got caught in a blatent lie. To me, 5-6 games total + fine.

  10. Via Twitter:

@BFeldmanESPN RT @ZackMeisel #OhioState athletic department announces 7 pm press conference tonight: President Gee, Jim Tressel, Gene Smith

They're not including The Vest in the presser if he's in hot water. At worst I could see vacating some wins. He won't step down.

That's the thing I don't understand. I thought to vacate wins, the players had to become ineligible. The players haven't done anything more to declare them ineligible.

And its not like Tressel pulled a Woody Hayes on someone. chuckleshuffle

  11. Am I the only one thinking that the AD leaving the selection committee meetings (I believe he is the head of the Mens BBall Selection Committee, or similar) to come back for a presser is a pretty big deal? Or am I over evaluating that move?

It's his job to head the presser. The fact the JT will be there, usually means he won't be fired.

Good point. He'd probably be packing his sweaters right now instead of attending a news conference.

  12. LOL OMG - I keep reading that thread and laugh harder and harder at each and everyone of the posts. Not because of the guys not liking the change but because it sounds EXACTLY like HB arguements would sound, except swap where it says "Iowa" with "Nebraska"

Like this quote - sound familiar?

Add Buddy Re: UNL-IOWA moved to Friday after Thanksgiving Reply

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm betting that all the posters who are bitching about this move are the same posters who NEVER want the Iowa football uniforms tweaked, get pissed at fans who stand and cheer at games, or would be excited to see the Iowa B-ball uniforms permanently redone with cursive letters and short 80s-style shorts.

If you have to work, adjust your schedule now. I probably have it off anyway, but just to be safe, I just put my name on the PTO board today for this game. If you are with family, and are a big Iowa (or Nebby) fan, I would assume this would be even better as you can watch the game with more family members. Unless your tradition is to just sit around all Friday and rock back and forth in a rocker with some tea and reflect on everything that happened over the past 50 years of your life. If that's the case, you are already dead.

This is a GREAT move for the future of Iowa football. Now I just hope we don't get raped in the initial meeting...

  14. This definitely will be a rivalry. CU was not a rivalry...it was make shift. I think a rivalry not only centers around how close games are and when they are scheduled, but I think its how the fan base comes out for that game. Yes NU/CU was a cool day after Thanksgiving game, but can anyone honestly say that it was more of a rivalry then NU, MU?

NU/IA is going to be EPIC...and I thought that before it was scheduled for the weekend after Thanksgiving and still think it with the game now being the day after Thanksgiving. Scheduling it that day just makes it that much better.

  15. Over/under on Bo to Ohio St. posts today?

Is it sad that as soon as I saw this story I thought to myself "I wonder how many threads/posts there are on HB referencing this story and Bo leaving Nebraska for that job."

If anything comes of this, it is going to MONTHS, if not YEARS. Look how long the whole Reggie Bush situation panned out. Hell he was what, a 3 yr veteran in the NFL before it came to an end?

Besides, I don't see Tressel pulling a Carroll and bolting as soon as he see's the walls start crumbling down. On the other hand, if this is true, Tressel and all his comments about tradition and disappointment in his players really doesn't mean anything.

I will definitely watch this story BUT I won't get up in arms about Bo possibly leaving until it happens, if it happens.

  16. The Biggest thing about this for Nebraska is that it will probably allow us to play on Black Friday against Iowa.

Is this true? or are you just guessing? because this is an absolute necessary!

I dont think we would get that spot on black friday, atleast on ABC.

I read somewhere that Iowa/Nebraska game will be on saturday after Thanksgiving for next 2 years, atleast. This may change it, but dont hold your breath.

I dont think Iowa wants to play us on black friday for some reason.

The biggest thing I could see happening is BigTen games moving to Thursday Night ESPN games. ESPN loves having Nebraska on the Thursday night line up. I wouldnt be surprised if ESPN pushes one of the early BigTen games to a Thursday night.

It isn't that the fans or the athletic department don't want to (I don't know about the AD but the fans really want Friday) - but when the game is in Iowa City it can't be on Friday. The stadium is immediately next to the hospital and all of the parking used for football games both immediately next to the stadium and further out are used by the hospital and other university students and personnel during the week. While those areas used by students wouldn't be a problem due to it being a holiday, that Friday is still a normal work day which means no parking for football. Now maybe they will eventually get something worked out but given that the hospital has tried at least twice to force the stadium to move to a less desirable location so that they can expand into that space I would be surprised. For as much money as football brings in - the hospital is still bigger and more well known.

Thank you for summing up Iowa football :)

Damn you are fast. Just saw this and was going to point this out. Great tradition to continue. I love it!

  17. He can carry the ball. How long did he carry the load over at Neligh(sp?)-Oakdale? He had a younger brother too, what happened to this kid?

Are you asking about Zimmerer? He went to Daniel J Gross High School in Omaha/Bellevue.

  18. Although I don't completely disagree with this assesment, the cancellation might be because of something as simple as not having enough registered participants. I mean, it takes money to put these things on, and there have to be other sponsors that participate. If they haven't recieved the support from the community it might have been a case of not being able to raise the money that they would like.

To my knowledge they hadn't even opened the registration process. I found out it was shut down when I tried to register and couldn't.

On his foundations homepage it mentions that 2011 Football 101 has been cancelled and that all registrants will be refunded their registration fees. IDK even when the registration was...I just made the thought because of the statement on his website.
