  1. The reason Tyrod got the snaps he got last year was because their offensive line was well below average. Glennon was getting killed in the early part of the season and Frank needed someone that could be mobile back there to support their offense.

As far as rankings go, who cares. I don't think this is the year for us to make a run at a national championship. We just need to play hard and continue to get better through out the season.

  2. This is probally good for us, as Glennon is a just a drop back passer. He is a good drop back passer but he is pretty slow and not a threat to run. I image that it would be easier for Bo and Co to gameplan just one style of quarterback than two different styles.

  3. I am fine with them being awarded after the first game. But the majority of those players who establish themselves as starters after the first game should get them next week. The tradition should not be changed so much that they become a mid-season or end of season award.

I agree, the blackshirts are for the starting defense. If a player has earned the right to start on our defense, then they deserve to wear a blackshirt.

  4. I thought that I read that while Henry was hitting people and hitting people hard, he still didn't know the play book or what exactly to do on plays. A redshirt would be good for him with our depth along the line.

  5. Here is a link to an article on rivals about how first year coaches have faired in their first year at their school.

Now this has no impact on what Bo will do this year, but it is a good article to put things into perspective on what has happened in the past. Some very good coaches have struggled their first year and some not so good coaches have done well their first year.

  6. I don't think there is any question that the players are going to give 110% in every game. BO will have them ready to play. However, the question is how will the coaches call the game. Will they play it close to the vest and not show too much of the playbook or will they work on everything to make sure the players have run the plays in a game. It just a matter of coaching philsophy, neither is right or wrong.

  7. Nebraska

    '07 record: 5-7 (2-6 Big 12).

New coach: Bo Pelini, formerly LSU's defensive coordinator.

What he inherits: Predecessor Bill Callahan recruited well enough during his four years in Lincoln, and there's more talent on hand than last year's disastrous campaign -- in which the Huskers' defense completely imploded -- might indicate. QB Joe Ganz performed extremely well upon taking over the starting job in the final three games, and RB Marlon Lucky is an all-conference talent. The defense is led by a veteran front four but is littered with questions in the back seven.

'08 prospects: The defensive-minded Pelini will leave Nebraska's ninth-rated offense from last season largely untouched while focusing on resuscitating the fallen Blackshirts. If Ganz picks up where he left off at the end of '07, and if Pelini can bring some cohesion to the other side of the ball, it's not unrealistic to expect an immediate improvement of several wins. The Big 12 North may be too tough, however, to contend for the division title.

Not much there, but it's nice to hear some positive press. Have at it.

The front four is veteran to be sure --- but that crew, collectively and individually, have not performed well --- at all. He makes it sound as though the front will be the strength of the D. It strikes me that if the defense has a unit that can be counted upon to be decent it will be the secondary with Thenarse, Culbert, Asante, Murillo, Amukamura, West, et al. Clearly the LB crew is a huge question --- but so too is the defensive line (not as much as is the LB crew, but still questionable).

No doubt he just looked at the class level of all our defensive starters, saw that the line had the most upper classmen, and decided it was the most reliable unit. Hardly. As far as I'm concerned they were the worst defensive unit on the field last year. That said, I agree that they certainly have more upside than the LBs for '08.

They probally were the worst unit last year, however, they do have a lot of talent across the front. Barry Turner was a freshman All-american and Suh has All-conference potential. Potter probally played the best out of all of them last year. I think with coaches that will have the front four focus and motivated, they should be the strength of the defense. Plus, they do have experience unlike the most of the secondary.

  8. Obviously, we can't afford to overlook any team on the schedule this year. However, I believe that if we just go out there and run our offense and our defense, we should have no problem with Western Michigan. I don't think they are a team that we have to scheme too much for.

  9. I don't think I'll ever get tired to the color commentator on Crouch's run against Mizzou.

    "Wow, WOW!... Geez... wow... AMAZING!"

Anytime you can make an announcer speechless, means there must have been one hell of a play. Which that was.

  10. At first I just wanted the starting 11 defensive players to get the blackshirts because that is how it started. However, I am not opposed to giving out or two extra for the nickel back or pass rusher because they play just as an important role as the starters even though they don't come in until second or third and long.

  11. I think it will really depend on what type of program offers him a job. After one year, a smaller school might offer him the head coaching position but I think it will be two or three (if his offense really clicks) before a major program would offer him a head position.

  12. Remeber they also had an easy schedule last year. They avoided Oklahoma, Texas, and Tech. Now they might of beaten one or two of them, but I think they would of got beat by probally OU and Tech.

  13. I thought I read online today (don't remember where) that Bo said something along the lines that the coaches talk everyday about ways to improve the return game. He mentioned that the thing that he pushes the hardest in practice is doing the litttle things like making your blocks and catching the ball.

  14. Its a two way street when it comes to scheduling. If other big name schools do not want so schedule us, there is little that we can do. I don't know if many ADs are talking to TO about scheduling us but I am glad that we are scheduling teams like Southern Miss ahead of time rather than scrambling around to find an Applachain St at the last minute to just fill our schedule.

  15. We don't have a real rival.

    :(

I agree. OU was a true rival. We can't just pick a team out of a hat and say that they are our rival.

    Rival teams must:

    1. Be Hated

    2. Be Respected

    3. Provide a good game regardless of records of either team

    4. Play every year

Oklahoma was the only team that fit those categories. Mu, KSU, KU, and CU does not.
