  1. Went two years ago and got tix (day of game) for the Packers v Vikings game the day after the Husker game, the NFL tix were much cheaper by far. The Husker Tickets dont go down much day of the game as we anticipated.

Tickets were going for $40/piece on craigslist the Friday before that game, two years ago.

Cheapest we were able to get at the game was around 50 if I remember right. Got our Packer tix for 18 Each, granted the Vikings blew so that may have had something to do with it.

  2. Pretty sure Quality Control just means they break down all the film and prepare stat data for the coaching staff and players.

But overall, a quality control assistant's job is rooted in game preparation. They usually work at least one or two weeks ahead in the regular season.

They prepare the statistical analysis as well as the initial video study of upcoming opponents. The defensive quality control assistant breaks down opposing offenses, including how often they line up in specific formations and how they use various personnel groupings.

  3. Did anybody see this?

This was a sketch of a potential East Stadium expansion in 1979.....

All I have to say is.... Barf. haha!

That big of a deck actually would have been pretty cool but with the outside facade of the expansion now.

  4. If This is in the wrong section, I apologize, thought relevant because of Husker Nations love for Shawn.

Though the final decision on Chizik has not been made, the report states Gogue intends to form a committee to help with the search for Chizik's replacement, a search that could begin “within days after the end of the season should the decision be made that Chizik will not be retained.”

The only potential candidate named by the sources was (somewhat surprisingly) Louisville offensive coordinator Shawn Watson.

  5. The league’s media agreements prevent schools from playing night games in November, but Delany has no opposition toward changes.

“November night games could be if that’s what our schools wanted,” Delany said. “There’s no line in the sand on that issue. Typically the weather really changes in the third and four week of October so we’ve been mindful about the fans and their comfort. But if people wanted to experiment, we don’t have any philosophical opposition.”

  6. I read there were going to be upwards of 20+ recruits at the Wisconsin game. With the good win and the crowd, anyone know how it turned for us?

Was anyone at the game and see the large contingent? Etc.

Pretty good rundown so you don't have to go through individual threads in the recruiting section. Note: you'll use 1 of your 20 "views" the Warren has imposed on the Herald.

  7. Some interesting reviews of Lincoln and UNL in the link below, mostly positive:

    http://buckyville.yuku.com/topic/56677/Lincoln-NE#.UGk4bfk4XyA

    Thoughts:

1, On the game, I will only say what I repeated to anybody who asked on Saturday night. This was a gift offered by Nebraska, and Wisconsin declined to accept it. We can complain about calls (refs and UW coaches) all we want, but we had a 17 point lead in the second half. We were badly outplayed from that point on. Badly outplayed.

    2. Liked Lincoln. Town slightly larger than Madison, and a lot of funky bars on O Street. Visited the market in the Haymarket District on the Saturday before the game. Nice spot that.

    3. It is almost exactly 8 hours from Madison to Lincoln, including two stops.

    4. Serious problem with ingress and egress from the part of the stadium we were in. When somebody told us we should get there an hour before the game, they weren't kidding. I missed the kick-off. Most everybody else made it but barely. Other than getting into and out of the seats, the stadium is impressive: large and loud, a real B1G stadium.

    5. Really friendly fans. Probably the friendliest in the B1G. We basically invited ourselves to a couple of tailgates and were welcomed with open arms. I don't know how many times we were asked, "How are you being treated?" Some folks made specific reference to the terrible treatment they got here last year, and I think were making a huge attempt to be nice.

    6. All that being said, there was something ... I'm not sure ... antiseptic (?) ... about the entire experience. I went out to a couple of places after the game, wearing my kilt and beret, and nobody said anything except "Good game." Lincoln is a very clean city. There is no metro area, so you've got a city of 250,000 but nothing like a Fitchburg, Verona, Monona or Sun Prairie nearby. It is a nice city, but nothing close to Madison, Iowa City or even MSU in terms of some natural beauty. I sort of felt like the only real passion I saw was actually in the stadium -- and even that wasn't all that passionate.

    7. This trip now completes (again) my visitations to all B1G locales.

    8. They are building a big new arena for Nebraska basketball, near the Haymarket area and to be called the Haymarket Arena. I think I was told it is jointly owned by the University and the City, so also will be used for lots of other events, like concerts.

    9. I haven't decided for sure where Lincoln ranks in B1G football road trips, but it did not dislodge Clummis and Happy Valley from the top, and likely did not dislodge my #3, Minneapolis. Where it ranks in that next group of the middle roadies (Iowa, Purdue, MSU), I'm not quite sure yet, but as a general matter, I would put it somewhere in that cadre. If there had been a little more fire in the Huskers, I might put them at the top of that list, but the "Nebraska Nice" pushes it down IMO. I kind of missed some out-of-control Hawkeye or Husker yelling at me. But Lincoln is definitely much better than what I consider the dregs of B1G football roadies (Michigan, Indiana, Champagna, Northwestern).

    10. Loved the Cornhusker Inn.

    11. A road trip I'd make again.

    12. Should have won the game. A gift declined.

  8.

On top of that, their coach is Ellis Johnson, who Husker fans may recall was the Defensive Coordinator for South Carolina in the Capital One Bowl last year. His Gamecock defense had little trouble with the Huskers as the game wore on. Certainly he doesn't have the same horses he had at USC here at Southern Miss, but these kids are good, they're fast, and they're capable, especially if well-coached. And they're going to know exactly what they're getting into with Nebraska from their coach's experience against us just nine months ago.

Bottom line - this Husker team had better be on full-blown upset alert Saturday afternoon. Sleep on this team and we'll get beat.

Ellis Johnson did not coach in the Capitol One Bowl last year, he had already gone to So. Miss at that point.

  9. Remembering Nebraska's historic three championships in four years

    nebraska-tennessee-p1.jpg

From 1994 through 1997, Nebraska went 49-2 and won three national championships. The 1994 and '95 titles were won outright, while the '97 championship in the pre-BCS era was shared with Michigan (the Coaches' Poll gave the crown to 13-0 Nebraska, but the media went with the 12-0 Wolverines). In 1996 the Cornhuskers had to settle for an 11-2 record and a No. 6 national ranking.

It remains one of the greatest four-year runs in college football history -- and one that the Alabama Crimson Tide are threatening to challenge this season. Alabama is 36-4 with two national championships over the past three seasons, and the Tide figure to be in serious contention for a third title this year.

  10. I Like this little note...

The Cornhuskers have won at least nine games in every season since 1962 but six: 1967-68, 2002, 2004-5 and 2007. Just as a comparison, let’s hold the rest of college football’s historical elite to the same standard. Alabama has 30 such seasons, if you include 1993, over that same span; Georgia has 23; L.S.U. 20; Michigan 30; Notre Dame 21; Ohio State 30, if we count the wins vacated in 2010; Oklahoma 27; Penn State 30, if you count each season since vacated by the N.C.A.A.; U.S.C. 24, if you include 2005; Tennessee 23; and Texas 28
  11. I don't know how strict Lincoln is going to be with Barry's liquor license. They're already planning on having open-container areas in the Haymarket expansion (The Yard, and possibly down Canopy Street). I wouldn't worry about Barry's until they deny the permit.

Yeah they will still get a liquor license no doubt just with a provision for no rooftop bar. Its a public safety thing, drinking outside is fine but when you have drunk college kids 20ft in the air on a major road through downtown lincoln is another story. Hence why they likely had to alter their plans and enclose the rooftop section of the bar.

That really sucks. I was looking forward to being able to see the skyline and hangout up there.

Are drunk NU college kids more likely to fall than drunk kids in Lawrence or Kansas City or any number of the other cities that have rooftop bars? I'd like to see a couple articles where someone actually fell (not jumped). I'd say it's BS and easily fixed w/ a 6 foot class wall surrounding the edge. Dave & Buster's rooftop bar is pretty awesome here in KC...and there isn't much going on around it. I can't imaging a rooftop bar in Lincoln on gameday. That would be one hell of a place to watch the game if you aren't inside the stadium.

Yeah and those are all much more progressive cities as far city councils and liquor commissions go. Look how long it took to approve the 2am closing time. Not granting a liquor license to Club "Smooth" or whatever its called, simply because of a grudge held against the owner.

I have Barry's on facebook so I sent them a message to try and put this to rest. The response:

"Hello! Spread the word around that yes there will be a rooftop bar and our goal is for it to be open by the Wisconsin game. We are opening half of it this year with a full bar, heated lanterns, a raised platform for preferred stadium view seating, and we are looking to hold about 200-250 people. This space is also going to be available for private rentals. Next year we are expanding it to the entire rooftop and are raising a full smoker to be placed near the bar to offer smoked Kansas BBQ. Put the speculations to rest and assure our Husker Nation that this is a promise!"

I'll believe it when I see it. Although I hope I am wrong, that would indeed be awesome. I heard all this from the owner of the Watering Hole. Said same thing happened to them during their remodel. They wanted to open up the upstairs and make it an open beer garden (facing O st) but the city would not approve their liquor license if they did.

  12. I don't know how strict Lincoln is going to be with Barry's liquor license. They're already planning on having open-container areas in the Haymarket expansion (The Yard, and possibly down Canopy Street). I wouldn't worry about Barry's until they deny the permit.

  13. So the model/rendering of the future Barry's shows the rooftop bar being as such where you can look down over the street, but when I look at the construction, it looks like there isn't going to be this option as they are basically making a rooftop room. Does anyone know how that is all going to work up there? I'm really hoping it is going to end up like it is portrayed in the rendering.

Heard that they would not get approved for a liquor license if a rooftop bar was part of the final plan. Lincoln is very strict when it comes to liquor licenses (i.e. name one other open rooftop bar in Lincoln. There isnt one.) So they probably have to make it an enclosed room up there with no alcohol on any outdoors portions of the upstairs.

  14. Today's updates.

This structure went up in about ten days. There was basically no ironwork here when I took last week's photos, just some ground work for the foundation. I don't know what this is - I'm guessing it's a hotel.

It's a powerplant for the arena:

"The DEC natural gas plant will be a plain brick building built into a parking garage and will provide low-cost, efficient heating and cooling for the arena and surrounding private development."

  15. Jay Stedman. Was a graduate Assistant under Danny Nee. He went to Lincoln southeast highschool. So he knows the talent around the Nebraska area. He could really pull in some fine players from the Sutton, North platte area. Plus with his southeast ties, We would not be losing recruits to Kansas and Texas from the lincoln area.

no offense, but I'm not sure we want recruits from that area, or much of any of Nebraska for that matter. With the exception of Gessel maybe. We need a coach that can go to the prep schools in the Northeast and bring home a solid recruit. It is sad that Doc has to go overseas to get any recruits, and they haven't turned out well for that matter either. We need athletes. Guys who know how to score. It makes me sick when I see Div 2 highlights with athletic guys going up and throwing it down. When is the last time we had a rim rocking blow the roof off dunk? Its sad that our 5'9 point guard is the most likely to dunk on the team.

Your telling me this team couldn't use Eikmeier's range? Or Greg Smith as a rotation big man?

Nebraska had better be going after Akoy Agua out of Central with all they have.

I agree that you wont get many stars out of Nebraska, but there is legit D-1 talent in the state every year to fill out the roster.

Id almost take Omaha Centrals 7-man rotation over Nebraska current line-up. Anyone who says there is no instate talent needs to go watch Omaha Central play.
