  1. I’ve been on here for years, mostly lurking, but I would post every now and then. With all of these ads, I think I’m done. I don’t mind some ads, it’s a free site, I get it. But this is ridiculous. There’s more ads than content at this point. I don’t even like coming here any more. Look at my phone screen lol

Im beginning to wonder if anyway that repeats things like "19 year old MEN" ever served or have been in a line unit, or if they just romanticize  their service. The only true thing mentioned about this was that people mature a different rates.

The 19 year old MEN in your typical infantry unit have way more problems then football teams, the biggest separator is the fact that the military folks are under contract and the army owns you. You screw up, we are just going to be on cq for 24 hours every Saturday,  and make you sign in every hour on Friday,  all while staying in a guarded barracks. You aren't allowed to screwup. And if you find a way in those circumstances to screw up more,  they just tighten the reigns even more.

I think the general public would almost be flabbergasted at what an army brigade soldiers do. The duis, fights, 700 dollar car loans, general destruction of property, and drugs. You just don't hear about it much. Not to mention e-4s riding out their contract that will do some of the most impressive things to avoid simply doing 5 minutes of work.

The miltary has more probelms with these "MEN" then the general public or even veterans want to admit to, but they are very real.

This is 100% correct. 11b reporting in. However, those that chose to make poor choices are punished for it. Barracks restrictions, CQ duty, f#&% f#&% games, smoke sessions, RFS and/or UCMJ. They are held to a standard that was laid out for them. If they fail to meet that standard, they pay the price. It’s called being an adult. I don’t see why we can’t or won’t treat adults in college the same way.

Because everyone matures at the same rate.

Exactly. There are 14 year olds that are more mature than 40 year olds. This is why we as a society have selected a number that we feel is roughly when most people can be considered to be adults and they can make their own life decisions instead of having their parents/guardians do it for them. We do this because there is no test or physical development that states that a certain person is mature enough to be adult.

Anyone over the age of 18, who is intelligent enough to not only pass high school, but can also get into college, learn complicated playbooks and juggle all of that at the same time as working out and practicing should absolutely be judged as a mature adult and treated as such.

The VA is at the leading edge of behavioral health because it turns out a century of giving teenagers guns and telling them to go kill people wasn’t good for them.

Your brain is not developed yet.   I love all my 11bulletcatchers but I coddled you all as a profession in theater and this act stops the minute your buddies aren’t around, no matter what unit tier.

Giving anyone a gun and telling them to go kill people isn’t good for them, regardless of age.

if we are going to arbitrarily pick some number/age to say “this person is now an adult” then we should be consistent. If 18 is good enough for war, then I’m going to treat some college football player the same way. If we want to say, the age of adulthood is higher, like 25 or whatever number is bandied about these days, then that’s fine. But it damn well should be that way across the board.

Until military minimum age is increased, I’m not going to hold any sympathy for college athletes.

QUESTION:  Why do college football teams have "19 and 20 year old kids" and the Armed Services have "19 and 20 year old MEN"?

ANSWER:  It's a matter of expectations.

Mods, please allow me to +1 this post two or three times. You aren’t a kid if you can safely handle and fire a machine gun in combat. Damn well should be considered an adult, and be treated as such. These are grown a$$ men playing football and joining the military. Stop coddling them.

....yeah, Adrian did so well in unscripted situations

    :sarcasm

Luke was a hell of a runner BECAUSE he didn't take 10 seconds to get up the courage to do it!  Adrian, all year, waited too long to do it if his receiver was covered.  By the time he did, he got gobbled up.

Nobody is questioning his decision making concerning Martinez.  It's hard to bench a starter in favor of a backup.  But if he was hurt, and if he is consistently turning it over or freezing up, which he was, it's not insane to try something different when the entire season is on the line.

And he was in for 5 of them.  No, I blame Frost and a Chinander.  They could have easily gotten us bowl eligible by coaching the team they had instead of the team they will eventually have.  A bowl was crucial this year.

Again, like Zrod and I said above, we feel that the hesitation came from having the whole playbook to go through, progress through all the diff reads on offense, AND the reads on defense. That’s going to slow you down mentally until you get it.

Think back to when you first drove a car of the road. I still remember how overwhelming it was. What’s behind you, in front of you, how fast am I going, what’s to my side, how fast am I going, what did that sign say, how fast am I going, what’s behind me, where’s my turn at, how fast am I going, oh s#!t I need to merge, are there any cars there, how fast am I going, etc. Eventually it slows down and you catch on and can nearly do it on autopilot. Also, these are college players with limited practices and practice time who are still going through college. This isn’t the NFL where football is their full time job. If Adrian doesn’t have an amazing year next year, I’ll lick the bottom of my shoe that I use when I mow the yard full of dog dookie.

If he was seriously injured, there were two guys behind him more than capable of playing.  I don't buy that this was the big reason he had a bad year.

I call shenanigans on this. We only saw Luke in scripted plays. He hasn’t shown that he knows the passing playbook or can go through his reads well enough to be a better option than Adrian even when injured.

Luke is a heck of a runner, no question, but I don’t think he was ready to step up, knowledge-wise this year. Vedral could have been banged up or not getting game time for a myriad of reasons. We don’t and won’t know for sure either way.

This is really only leaves us with just having to trust that Frost is making the right decisions...you know, as someone who won a championship as a quarterback. Anyone who thinks this program is not in the middle of a multi-year rebuild is fooling themselves. I’ll give Frost the same 3-4 years that I mentally gave Bo, Callahan, and Riley before starting to question their ability to get the job done. Only time will tell

Maybe the kid needs to wait till feb. whatever is going on I dont see making a decision if he is this torn. Or someone trying to get him to do something else.

Crazy advice for someone who doesn’t really know what’s going on. Maybe they kidnapped his mom

  9. I don't understand all the bagging on Adrian. Sophomore slump is a legit thing. Freshman year, he was playing on a smaller playback and running a lot on his instinct. He has a whole 'nother year in the system, has the whole playback thrown at him, is being asked to make more complicated reads, lost a fair amount of strong talent on the offensive line, lost a true #1 WR in Stanley Morgan, Lost an amazing back in Ozigbo, had numerous injuries to skill position players, had an offensive line still learning to gel, had a brand new center throwing back bad snaps and messing up his rhythm, AND was playing hurt for a lot of year.

You put just the talent lost due to graduation and injuries and the offensive line issues and he is going to have a down year. If you add in the extra mental effort and learning curve on top of all of that, yeah, he's going to have a s#!t year. It doesn't mean he's a terrible QB or can't be great. I think we will see a gelled, healthy offense next year, and also see a healthy Adrian that will finally put together all of the pieces of the playbook and reads. I firmly believe that our offense is going to have an outstanding year next year. We still have a ton of question marks on defense, losing Darrion Daniels, the Davis twins, and Lamar Jackson. If Adrian s#!ts the bed this year, I'll be first in line calling for Luke M to take over the reigns, but I don't see it happening.

  10. I always wondered when or if a player would get too cute with their commitment announcements and tell a coach that they will find out when everyone else does. Seems like it would be a jerk move to a coach trying to make sure they can manage their spots left and know what to tell other recruits (if there is room for them or not).

I am not at all saying that is what happened here, I have less than zero inside knowledge, but these last minute shenanigans always make me wonder what’s up.

No.  If he's not in the photos, that's pretty solid evidence he's not there.  You're the one claiming he is.  The burden is on you

He’s obviously the one who is taking the pictures.

Something has been up with AM all year, injury? Sophomore Slump? Poor line play? All the above? But I remember another Martinez with some of those same issues that had a poor Sophmore year followed by a great Junior campaign. It would be foolish to write AM off. McCaffrey is a good runner, but yet to see much out of the passing game. Just not much there to evaluate and there probably is a reason. However, I do hope there is more competition this Spring which raises all of their games. I think AM is probably the best at this point, we will see if anyone can surpass him.

Agree with this 100%. I haven't been impressed with Luke's throwing. If he hits Spielman on the trick play instride, it's a TD. Instead we settle for a 20 yard gain. He had a terrible pass to the left to Hickman that didn't even make it to Hickman. The throw was late and just looked terrible all around. Does he look like a better and more decisive runner than Martinez? Ya for sure. But I am not sold on him being a better QB than Martinez, even with his down year this year.
