  1. I've been watching a lot of the stand-up specials recently.

My absolute favorite has been Anthony Jeselnik - Thoughts and Prayers. I didn't have any expectations going in, but the dude f'ing slays.

Jim Jefferies - Freedumb. What can I say? One of the best comics currently working. f'ing hysterical.

Norm Macdonald - Hitler's Dog,Gossip & Trickery was pretty great, but he's probably not for everybody. Personally, I think he's brilliant.

Joe Rogan - Triggered I would file under "pleasantly surprised". I've never been a big fan of Rogan's stand-up, but he really hit his stride with that one.

Also pleasantly surprised by Dana Carvey - Straight White Male, 60. I loved him back in the day but I was expecting it to be terrible. It was actually decent.

Jim Gaffigan - Cinco was alright. Pretty much standard Gaffigan. If you've seen one you've seen them all.

Chris D'Elia - Man on Fire was lame, I thought. Sort of the same schtick as Dane Cook. I don't get it.

John Mulaney - The Comeback Kid didn't do much for me neither. Just wasn't for me, I guess.

Rory Scovel - Tries Stand-up for the First Time. Not bad for a first timer. I would probably say worth the watch.

That's all I can think of right now. Obviously all the Louis CK, Bill Burr, and Dave Chappelle specials are great. Saw some Kinison and Hicks on there too.

You need to watch Tom Segura Mostly Stories!

I'll go the other way and say it stinks, for both parties. Meyers is NU's best player, and can only get drafted in the 14th round? Probably could have improved upon that next year.

On the other hand, what does it say about the program that its best player is willing to forgo eligibility for a 14th round spot and $125,000?

Most baseball players don't improve themselves by coming back for their senior year. It just doesn't happen. It's nothing like the NFL draft. Most of the guys being drafted by the MLB draft are college juniors and high school seniors. Meyers wasn't going to make himself into a higher round draft choice, so he wasn't going to make a lot more $ by coming back.

Seniors also lose a bargaining chip. They can't dangle going back to or going to college as a way to get a bigger bonus that the juniors or High School Seniors can.

  3. BTW, if anyone is looking for a Nintendo Switch still, Best Buy and Target have been hoarding them for this coming week. Target has Switch in their Sunday ad, not sure about Best Buy yet...but if you're looking to score one, this Sunday should be a good opportunity to do so, provided you're inclined to get to your local Target early.

Hey thanks I might try that. I have been everywhere looking for one.

95 Redux: I would say you summed up things fairly well in your intro post. I do believe that we are on the brink of our first really 'top ten' recruiting class since early Solich years or so. We may have had a couple thereafter but they turned out to be mirages in many ways. But, to finish this class with half a dozen more 'elite-ish' guys AND ACTUALLY SIGN THEM next Feb will be very much tied to the success on the field this fall. If we find a way to get to the conf championship game and playwell (win or lose), we will hold the class together and we will have taken a giant leap forward as a program going into 2018.

2018 will be a gauntlet of a schedule and to manage 9 or so wins then will be 'coach of the year' type results for Riley. Of course he won't be coach of the year but it will be monumental in my view.

All this being said, this fall has the potential to be Riley's make or break year as a result. If the wheels fall off and the team loses confidence, or the QB gambit blows up in Riley's face (it surely could), then all bets are off. There remains a lot of weak links in this chain, although it is getting better in some areas. As many have mentioned, the O line remains a big "if" and two or three injuries there could spell disaster. We do have several RBs with ability and WRs have skills. The defense, IF we are able to build a front "3 or 4" as it turns out to be, should be pretty good and surely ought to be sufficient to keep us in the games, and if they grow a bunch as a group, keep us within 3 or 4 TDs of the Buckeyes. The offense, by then, has the potential to be able to play some catch up and take quick advantage of any turnovers or other breaks.

The kicking game, by golly, surely can improve dramatically by year three. A senior placekicker gives a chance to make those key field goals to keep the score from getting out of hand before half time. Anything can happen in a couple quarters, especially as DBs get a little fatigue in their legs by the 4th Qtr crunch time.

We have been hopeful and overly optimistic as it turns out nearly every season for the past 20. It is not a surprise that many of us are getting a little excited and hopeful yet again. But, as to the 'state of the program', I believe there are more positives than negatives at this point in time. We have a pretty good staff, overall, and Riley is a very good coach. Can't say 'great' yet, really in regards to any of the players or the coaches but 'very good' is better than we have had for a decade or more. How many all conference preseason pickes do we have? Probably NONE. That is not a good sign but there is one important consideration that we must recognize: the Big Ten is now the premiere conference in the country, as I have predicted for years. When Nebraska joined the league, it was apparent to me that we would make the Big Ten 'elite' and the Big 12 irrelevant. It has happened. This is the gravitas that is Nebraska football nationally. Whether or not we are rated highly, we are STILL Nebraska. The difference, evidenced by the alarmingly rapid rise last fall in the rankings by simply going 7-0, is that there are many millions of college football fans and commentators, etc, who really WANT us to be back where we belong. We aren't facing the headwinds that Bill Callahan and even Pelini faced towards the end there. We will get the benefit of the doubt more because many around the college football world want to see Nebraska in the big picture. Let's hope that come January, 2018, we are there. If so, the state of the program will be GOOD. We are on the rise but we have a long way to go.

I just want to highlight what I feel is a high quality post. I think too often good posts get overlooked and talked around instead of thoughtful conversation.

Quality Post and I probably wouldn't have read it if it wasn't for Huskerzoo quoting it.

Polk was by no means the best ever in a black shirt...but this video gets me jacked up none the less.

    Great video! +1

But "by no means the best ever"? Ha ha! Even so, he was pretty darn good. First team All-Big-Ten. First Team All-American. He wasn't exactly a

    .

    I find this unlikely. ;)

If it's posted on the internet it has to be true!

  6. Ben Probst, the RHP from Dowling Catholic, is now the #1 ranked prospect in Iowa. Could be a sleeper as he was not highly thought of until recently and is going to be a recruited walk-on next year.

I am pretty sure Swanda the pitcher from Roosevelt(husker commit) is the number one player in Iowa.

  7.

Mike Birbiglia's new standup is phenomenal. It has him neck and neck with Louis C.K. as my favorite living comedian.

Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix. Pretty funny comedy with Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant and the boy from Vacation. It's a little twisted and different, almost has the feel of Dexter but a lot lighter. I'd recommend.

Edit- Binged all 10 episodes of season 1. It's definitely worth a look. But I retract the Dexter comparison. There is only one small aspect that reminds of that. This is very light comedy all the way, mostly poking fun at affluent suburban life with a funny twist on the zombie genre. Netflix Orignals is doing a much better job than the big networks imo. Looking forward to season 2.

I watched it as well. Good stuff!

    Next up is "The Fall."

Seems pretty comparable to the Killing.

My wife watched that over the past week. She's been buzzing about it. I'll have to check it out myself.
    Which show?
    The Fall

The first two seasons of the Fall are amazing the third lacks a little. But definitely recommend!

What are your thoughts on Miller getting the start over a guy like McSteen?

This was discussed in the Season Notes thread. Several guys are coming off injuries (including McSteen), so Ben Miller will be starting and throwing all of about 50 pitches that game.

thanks guess i should have checked that thread out.

  9. I won a shotgun at a game feed event a couple weeks ago. I have a couple long guns and hand guns. Now that I have a kid the wife doesn't like the guns in the cases in the closest and told me to get a safe. My question is besides being a little more secure and fire resistant is there a reason to get a safe over a locker.
