You know, I used to think this way too, back before the 2012 UCLA game. I still felt that things would get better after Ohio St., too. After the CCG against Wisconsin I began to have my doubts and after the bowl game against Georgia I was on the fence. After Wyoming this year I began to get really concerned, but after today it's become clear to me that its not a recruiting problem, it's a coaching problem.
I mean, you can say we need to bring in better athletes, but we already have better talent than Wyoming, and at least equal to if not better athletes (per the last four years of recruiting rankings) to Wisconsin and UCLA. But we still managed to find a way to give up 500-600 yards of offense and 40+ points to each of these teams. We've upgraded players this year, but the product today looks remarkably similar to last year and 2011.
For a myriad of reasons (location, weather, ethics, relevance over the last five years, etc.) we will never have a coaching staff that is able to consistently bring in top 5 recruiting classes and simply "out-athlete" the opposing teams to the point where we can afford to be out-coached on a consistent basis. Hell, it's even debatable if that can even be done anywhere (see Texas).
The bottom line is that our problems are systemic within Bo's (and Beck's) schemes, preparation, and ability motivate. It doesn't matter who you plug in there at this point, experienced vets like last year or young studs like this year, the results are still the same. Blown assignments, missed tackles, lack of aggression, and stupid penalties have nothing to do with our recruiting (or lack thereof) - they are simply an extension of our coaching staff's shortcomings.
Which really hurts to say because I have been an ardent Pelini supporter. Unfortunately, you can only say "this will get better when..." for so long and, for me at least, that point was reached today.

Coaches are paid a lot of money to make sure the players execute and it isn't happening.
BINGO. End of story.

We can get a proven head coach, as long as we want to pay for it.

Seems like almost all of the Nebraska fans are jumping on Bo Pelini and his staff. I think the major
reason for the Bruin victory was that on both sides of the ball the Bruins had faster players than Nebraska did. Yes, recruiting is the responsibility of the coaches, so the current staff could be (and should be) criticized for not gettting players who are fast enough to compete with the better teams in college football.
But the recruiting issue aside,do any of you think that the outcome would have been any different if you could have magically swapped out the entire Pelini staff for any other Big 10 staff?
With much respect, player talent is not the issue.

Open check book. Write large amount to Chris Peterson of Boise St.

Favorite vid all time. We need that Bo back.
That Bo gives people's wives and Harvey Perlman the sadsies.
Yes, and opposing offensive coordinators nightmares.

When the preseason is over I think Rex will be number 3 on the depth chart. He is going to do it the old fashioned way and beat out Perman(?) and Herron with hard work and effort. He popped up and ran back to the huddle after every carry and just hustled all night. He was has better vision than the other two also, they kept running into tackles and Rex was getting an extra yard or two every carry.

Right now I probably watch the outdoor/hunting channels more than anything else. I have been shooting my bow quite a bit too. Deer are hitting the mineral sites but I can't afford trail cams yet. Best time of the year coming up!

UCLA feels more like when Washington came to Lincoln, nothing more.

If Morris happens to get banged up this year, Helu will get his chance. If Roy is in fact 100% healthy, look out.

The only reason SEC defenses look so good in the rankings is because they don't play much offense. Coincidentally, our team's pass defense ranked high because no one had to throw against us........until Georgia.
WRONG. Why would anyone pass when they can run through wholes the size of hippo?
Note: Wisconsin.
Umm.......try reading my post again.

Bo is at the same crossroad Frank Solich was at in 2002. He cannot be HC and call the plays on D also (Frank called the plays on O) If he wants to be a HC, be a HC. Just because some coaches can do both jobs doesn't mean everyone can. Bo needs to hire an experienced DC and manage the team as a whole. End of Story.

Another vote for '93 OU game. I was eleven and the guys behind us were sipping peppermint schnapps all day. Loudest game I have ever been to and stupid cold.
-
Doubtful but if he only has 3 carries and 3 short TDs then so be it.

DAMN YOU FRANK!!!!!!!!!!!

O great, more biting on play action to give up the deep pass. Can't wait.

The most frustrating thing that keeps me shaking my head is how we started that OSU game. We were dominating, plain and simple. Even with Taylor throwing a pick 6, our defense had only given up 17yds and the offense had scored TDs on back to back drives and all looked great. But then to fall apart because of some big plays and never respond, how does that happen? No coaching adjustments and zero mental toughness from the defense. I do believe we need more speed but our main problem right now, in my opinion, is the mental side of the game. Coaches and players.

Most Bruin fans I spoke to at the game this weekend had most of the same thinking. What they don't realize is that we gave the game away by poor play and coaching. Any good team and staff would have buried the Bruins at the end of the 1st half. We don't know how to do that. Period.
