  1. I've watched about 5 episodes of the new season of Arrested Development. They're pretty "meh" so far. A couple funny parts here and there.

Portia de Rossi looks sick though. She lost WAY too much weight.

I tried watching Arrested Development. But just couldn't get into it after three or four episodes. I'll give it another try sometime. Maybe.

You have to make it through the first 6 or so episodes before they start getting really funny, then you can see some of the concurrent themes each episode has. Also, those first few episodes seem a lot funnier the second time through the season. The Tobais and Gob episodes are classic.

On a separate note, I watched Cabin in the Woods on Netflix last night and really enjoyed it. I'm not a huge horror/gore fan, but this one was very self-referential and made fun of a lot of classic "horror movie" tropes. Plus, I'll watch anything even remotely related to Joss Whedon, and he produced this.

  2. To say that he will NEVER get over the hump is too far. He hasn't done it yet, but that doesn't automatically mean that he never will...

For those of you who want to say that Bo has taken the pride away from the program, do you not remember the Callahan years? I'm not talking about just game results, either. He eliminated the walk-on program, and took away hallmarks of Nebraska football. You may have many prejudices against Pelini, but he did a tremendous job of restoration and made our program something to be proud of again. There's a difference between being "entitled and elitist" and having pride, and that difference is patience. The next few years will show the true colors of what some Husker fans really are.

  3. I say we suffer one more killing, we cut Bo. This cannot be tolerated. Our players and fans deserve better. We should already be writing up a list of coaching prospects.

    My hot board -

    Chris Peterson

    Gary Patterson

    James Franklin

    Charlie Strong

Fire a guy after a nine win season and see if you get ANY of those guys to even remotely consider this job.

  4. the "martinez legacy"? i have not even seen the "martinez supremecy" yet

I'm pretty sure that was filmed in Manhattan and Stillwater. You should check it out it was a good one.

I thought that was the Martinez Identity. Man, I get so confused with all these movie names!

  5. All game I was expecting a play action pass off of that set. It never came, but I bet Beck has one in his pocket.

That would be the perfect play. Line up with Jano and Cross, fake and hit a middle screen or Martinez on a naked bootleg around the edge. Would like to think Beck was "putting this on film" for future use, but he has not shown me he is really that experienced to think that far ahead. Improving, but that whole sweep play was awesome about 5 minutes into the 1st and then started ticking me off!

I'm sure there are variations off of the play, we just really didn't have a chance to run them. We ran that formation maybe six times, and three of those were when we were trying to milk the clock. Just because we didn't see it doesn't mean it's non-existent. No need to bash on Beck yet...

As for the toss sweep, I hear a large section of this board complaining about Beck "not sticking with what works". Well, he found a play that worked, and he used it often...and now people are saying that running the same play was ticking them off. What do you people want?

  6. This thread is ridic. We're in the top 15 of total offense rankings, and we're top 10 in rushing offense. The defense we just played is top 5 in total d, and we just exceeded their average points per game by ten plus. Sorry we didn't score every possession and that our QB made a few horrendous throws, but that's no reason to go full meltdown and call for the OC's head. He doesn't make all of the right calls all of the time, but what coach does? This sort of complaining seems awful entitled considering that this team went through the debacle that was Shawn Watson...

  7. If we got Oregon in the Rose Bowl, I'd be tempted not to watch. Not only would their offense hang 50 points on us, their D would force several turnovers and probably prevent us from even reaching the 23 Mich held us to. No disrespect to our guys, but Oregon is on a completely different level.

They're defense is solid, but it's not spectacular by any means. Don't get me wrong, I definitely think we lose badly, but I think our offense would do fairly well. 30+ points and 400 yards at least...

  8. The only concerning thing to me is how we're swapping wins for losses last year and a loss for a win last year. Last year, we lost to Wisconsin; Michigan; and Northwestern. This year, we've beat those three. Last year, we beat Ohio State. This year, they took us behind the shed. I'm more than a little concerned about Michigan State and Penn State for this reason.

We're not swapping wins for losses, we've swapped ONE win for one loss. It's not some innate thing that we lose every game we won last year...seems a little superstitious to me.

  9. One lesson I hope Michigan learns, you should never have your QB be 70% of your offense. Always have your 2nd string know the system, because when you play your QB wreckless, your bound to have an injury. We know this the best of anyone. Taylor halfway through his RS Freshman year, and lingering through his RS Junior year.

You should totally email that right there to Brady Hoke. I'm sure he would love that advice. I'm sure today is the day that he learned that his QB is a pivotal part of his team. His backup may blow, but I'm sure it's not because you can't get any studs to come and play backup for you when you have a QB that was talked about as a Heisman candidate since he was a freshman....

Easy now, big fella. He's stating his opinion, just the same as you are...

  10. You don't get that we were clearly the more talented team, but got outcoached?

You don't get that we should've won that game by 3 or 4 touchdowns?

You don't get that we are one of the most undisciplined college football teams in the country?

You don't get that our coaching staff is inadequate?

You don't get that we are lucky as Hell to win a game we had no business winning?

You don't get our program is worth way more than what we saw today?

You don't get that this coach continues to fail each season when it comes to winning something of substance?

What more do you need to get?

S**t happens. You don't play your best every single week. Sure, being disappointed is fine, but the nuclear meltdown on this board is wholly uncalled for

  11. ...

It's the same crap all the time. I know I posted this same stuff three years ago. It hasn't changed and won't. I like BO but to be honest I'm tired of his being such an ass to people all the time. An example: my wife and I were in the elevator with some other fans at the cornhusker hotel the day of the Wisconsin game. The elevator opens up on floor 3 and Bo is standing there looking at us. We all say hey BO, good luck etc....he stands there and stares at us without saying a word. Not a word. I'm beginning to believe other that his canned statements about execution and the us vs them mentality, he really doesn't know what to do. Hope I'm wrong.

So you're going to base your opinion of a coach because he wasn't cordial to you on the day of an important game? If you wanna go after Bo for football related issues, that's fine, because there are plenty of them out there right now, but this just seems to me to be getting pissy because someone wasn't nice to you...

  12. There's nothing wrong with the scheme.

Our problem is focus and execution. Nothing more, nothing less.

No there was a problwm with play calling and I think that's what ultimately did us in. The D adjusted enough to keep us in it but the offense sputtered, and then when they found their groove with the inside run we inexplicably abandon it.

There are gonna be some nights when the playcalling isn't as sharp. We've got to accept this, it happens to every team, and hope that the scheme is engrained enough that we can execute poorly called plays so that they are succesful

  13. Reality is that the top high school kids are not going to come to NU and play for Bo Pelini, his national image is not good. I think the last 2 recruiting classes are testiment to that. People say stars don't matter, look at Alabama, LSU, Florida, etc., good recruiting classes, Top 10 football programs...............just saying

    TRUTH

But on the flipside, look at Miami, Florida State, and Notre Dame. Those two schools get the best recruits, yet fail and disappoint every year (although ND and FSU are getting better). It's a mix between the two...plenty of five star kids bomb with failed coaching, just like plenty of two star kids shine with the right coaching

  14. Being a fan who is "afraid to lose" compared to one who savors wins must be terrible...

Seriously, we just got revenge over a team that curb stomped us last year. I think we're all entitled to a little cautious optimism...

  15. I didn't pay that close of attention to Cam, but I'm not really all that thrilled with him or Steinkuhler. Two very underwhelming players, and Ankrah has been too for much of this season.

I've been saying it forever, Baker is the most overrated player on our D, he got Five stars because of that last name

He also got five stars because most people thought he would play OFFENSIVE line...

  16. I'd settle for defensive competence --- no need for genius.

I know Jr High coaches with enough "defensive competence" to drill their players in practice often enough that they know how to tackle. That is all we ask here... let our defensive coaching be at that level and the improvement will be great.

To add on to the "defensive competence" of Jr. High and High School coaches, they put their 11 best athletes on the field and let them go make plays. Bo's problem has always been choosing players that know the playbook the best -- O'Hanlon, Blatchford, Cassidy, Compton -- over better athletes. Lavonte David started out as third string in 2010 and wouldn't have seen the field much had it not been for Compton and Fisher's preseason injuries.

That's worked out well, in some cases (O'Hanlon and Compton), so I don't see that as a total fail.

  17. Good God I am so sick of reading about Bo being on the hot seat. We are two games into the season......get a freaking grip!!!!!!!!!!If we are at .500 through 10 games then we can talk about this.

What's this program coming to if we can't talk about a coaching change after a 650 yard, inferior to an unranked team whoopin??

Way to show up and throw stones after a loss...

  18. Monday- install offensive/ defensive game plan/ practice tackling

Tuesday- review offensive/ defensive game plan/ practice tackling

    Wednesday

    - Run 10 20 yard sprints- followed by a 10 play #1's on #2's scrimmage, for both the offense and the defense--- evaluate who is still going hard, making the correct reads, sustaining blocks on offense/ flying to the ball and tackling correctly on defense (anyone sucking air/ slacking off/ not understanding the scheme,- go work with the JV's/ replace with JV guys excelling)

    - Run 10 more 20 yard sprints - followed by a 10 play #1's on #2's scrimmage, for both the offense and the defense--- evaluate who is still going hard, making the correct reads, sustaining blocks on offense/ flying to the ball and tackling correctly on defense (anyone sucking air/ slacking off/ not understanding the scheme,- go work with the JV's)

Gas them out, see who is still doing things Right!

    Conclude by Practicing Tackling!

Review film of practice- set dept chart based on performance during scrimmage-

    review offensive/ defensive game plan

    Conclude by Practicing Tackling!

Review tape of practice, adjust dept chart accordingly!

    Friday

-Review offensive/ defensive game plan with guys left standing, those who have earned their spot on the depth chart by performing correctly during practice while being gassed. Those are the guys who will come through in a close game in the 4th quarter, the ones dead tired and still giving it their all and doing things right. No spot is safe week to week, ever!

PS. Not impressed with Mike Morrow, he was 3 for 3 against Southern Miss, but seems to run too upright and gets stood up easily, even on those runs and especially at UCLA. Size only does so much if you don't keep your pads low and feet moving... Definitely not the juggernaut he was billed to be.

Tackling rarely gets practiced in college, you have more important things to worry about. Problems tackling is mostly a recruiting deficiency.

I think the COLLEGE FOOTBALL COACHES know more about effective practice scheduling than any of us on a message board, so I'm going to go ahead and defer to them when it comes to this sort of thing...

  19. Why does Bo insist on starting the players that know the defensive system best over players that are more athletic but have less knowledge? I'm glad a player knows where he and the other 10 players are supposed to be on a given play, but it's worthless when said player(s) never makes the play. Put the best athletes on the field and let them play football.

    A prime example:

Lavonte's first year. Bo continuously said that Lavonte didn't know the playbook very well and he was constantly out of position. How did that work out for us? Pretty darn well. All he did was make plays all over the field because he was a heck of an athlete.

Bo needs to wake up and realize that athleticism can trump playbook knowledge. Especially when said knowledgeable starters give up 648 yards. I believe we have better defensive talent riding the bench because they can't grasp the system. Put them in the game and see what happens.

This is all fine and dandy, until some superathlete/moron blows a coverage. Then we'll all be saying "Why can't we get guys who know the system? It doesn't matter if you can run if you don't know the plays!!"
