  1. I saw this stat the other day to and loved it. It is very apparent, we have success with the run, we win. So many people want us to be like everyone else and throw the ball around the field, but thats not who we are. We should be running the ball 75% of the time with a few passes mixed. And, IMO, we shouldn't throw a pass further than 15 yards down field more twice a game. When we pass, we need to throw short little routes and let our playmaking-receivers and runningbacks turn them into 30 and 40 yard plays.

If we did that, what would stop the defense from teeing off on the run and short pass. You have to take more than a few shots downfield to keep them honest

  2. When you throw three interceptions the way Martinez did, you should be benched. They weren't even close. It wasn't like the defenders made an aggressive move or the WRs didn't complete the route or Martinez didn't time it correctly. Those are errors that can be corrected. He threw it right the f#*k to them. The third one, the Wisconsin DB didn't even have to move. He sideslings it like he's Billy the f'ing Kid shooting from his hip. Watching him throw on the run is enough to raise even an adrenaline-junkie's blood pressure. He panics, tries to make a heroic, spectacular move, and ends up eating sh#t 9 times out of 10. He's not even a good runner. The only time he is dangerous is when there is a massive gap you could drive a truck through, and only because he has superior acceleration. He can't dodge, he can't weave, he can't run laterally for sh#t. He needs to be taking screen passes and zooming up the field, not launching sidearmed shitrockets.

If you're going off of this logic, Tom Brady should have been benched two weeks ago against the Bills. Interceptions happen, people. It's just unfortunate that it happened on a night when our defense was getting torched up and down the field.

  3. Not to be a smart ass but maybe that is why Beck thought we could move the ball by having Martinez drop back and throw from the pocket. Our secondary play has not been anything a person should use to judge their offensive prowess.

You're probably spot on with this observation JJHusker1. If Martinez was hitting open receivers against our 2nd string it possibly could have given Beck a false assessment at Taylor's progress in the passing game. I know we practiced a lot 1's vs. 1's during Fall Camp, so it kind of amazes me that they would go away from that once the season started. I understand you don't want to get your top players hurt in practice, but at the same time you also don't want your players to gain a false sense of themselves by how they perform in practice if they are going up against 2nd string talent.

When you practice for an opponent (and not just practice to install your offense/defense like you do in fall camp), you can't practice 1 on 1 for all that long because you have to simulate the other team's offense defense. If the 1 offense spent all their time trying to simulate Wisconsin's offense for the defense, when would they ever get to practice their actual plays? Same thing goes for the defense...

  4. This is basically what I've been saying all along. Taylor executes on his passes, Beck's game plan advances without a hitch. Who knows how his game plan changed when Taylor turned the ball over. Maybe we should have run the ball more, but fact of the matter is, the turnovers forced Beck to change his game plan into something other than what he had planned.

But you have to play call to your players strength. You wouldn't expect Georgia Tech or Navy to call 12 straight 3 step passes, then get mad when they "don't execute". That's not what they, do, and similarly, that's not what we do.

  5. Missing open receivers happens to every quarterback. We as fans are asking for a perfect quarterback, and to get a good quarterback we are going to have to take some lumps. It amazes me that we are willing to let this guy contribute 75% of our offense (and be a big part of the reason we won) for 4 games prior to this, and at the first sign of adversity he faces, people want him canned for an unproven backup who has zero meaningful game experience. Mind boggling.

  6. Not to say that I don't think we have a chance in the upcoming game, but I like our odds against Wisconsin in a rematch at the B1G Championship game a lot better. Both units, especially the offense, should be gelled by then, and will already have previous experience against Wisconsin. Also, the neutral field will help. Defensively, I'd be willing to bet that Pelini has been cooking up a unique scheme for this upcoming game against Wisconsin, hopefully we can execute it with Dennard back.

  7. "Honestly,

I don't think you guys had an answer for Chris Polk in either game last year. Your defensive line was soft in my opinion. Sure, you defended the pass very well against us, but this year we've added a massive tight end and an explosive Wide Receiver to our offense. OUr offensive line is much more talented than a year ago. If that offensive line from a year ago dominated the Husker defense, this one will part your defensive line wider than when Moses parted the Red Sea!

You still have Martinez, but I'll take my chances with Washington shutting him down than a team that has a scary passing attack.

My prediction, Washington in a rout, 36-10. (You get 10 in garbage time)"

  8. The offense gets better and better as Beck slowly takes the handcuffs off. I think he and the rest of the offensive coaches went into this game thinking that they could be pretty vanilla and conservative and get by. I think by halftime, they realized that Fresno isn't UCT, and they can't continue to slowly implement the offense, but rather execute and use the offense, which is why we saw a major improvement in the second half. That being said, the offensive line does have a long way to go, and the reasoning behind not starting Jamal Turner is beyond me...

  9. is that we are too reliant on big plays to score td's. We need solid drives that end in touchdowns and not field goals. this is why we lose to good opponents and will/have lose big games. Big plays should be a plus not the only way to score touchdowns.

I agree. We have so much talent in the RB positions, let's use them! If we are a 'running team' then let's run but not always have the qb run. He's going to end up getting hurt. I would much prefer to just move the ball up the field, burn up clock than to have a few big plays and stall the rest of the game.

That's easier said than done. It seems to me that other than Burkhead's big run, most of our RB plays were getting stuffed

  10. I was listening to a radio program in KC, and they were interviewing Bubba's baseball trainer...They asked him if Nebraska was even in play, he responded "absolutely not, the Royal's wouldn't have even considered taking him if they weren't completely sure he was committed to baseball. He is 100% baseball" He went on to say "It's almost comical to me that Nebraska fan's think it's a 50-50 chance. This is a done deal"

It isn't his actual baseball coach, so i'm not sure how reliable this is, he's just a trainer that I believe he hits with in the winter. Take this for what its worth, but it's certainly not good news on the Husker front

  11. All you people bashing on Martinez's throwing mechanics: you wanna know who else had awful mechanics, a guy named Tim Tebow, an I think he ended up being a fine quarterback. Machanics aren't all that important in college, as long as you can get some velocity on the ball
