  1. I may be wrong, but didnt Khiry Cooper come and go through summer workouts after being drafted by the Angels? They have until August to decide for sure what they are going to do officially. But if he is going to be drafted so high, he may choose early, who knows.

I don't see why it would be a big deal...it's not like the training they do is going to hurt him in baseball, though i would doubt they would let him do any contact drills or anything like that

  2. Why bring in a QB that has one year of eligibility, give him the starting reigns, and cripple the development of all of our young QB's. Wilson is good, but he can only play for one year, and will likely not even be that impressive because of his lack of playbook knowledge. In my opinon, we'll set back potential Heisman level production from one of our young quarterbacks for a year, for one year of above average quarterback play that by all indications doesn't fit our new offense

I agree. I hope we continue to watch our defense hold teams to under 10 points while the offense doesn't score. If we have to do that for three more years so that we might have an individual win a Heisman, then so be it. We must not cripple QB development!

I wasn't saying that the goal of QB development was for someone to win the Heisman, but rather have Heisman level production from one of our QB's. Not once did I say the goal was to win the Heisman. This reminds me of the Jeremiah Masoli-Ole Miss situation...they did something similar to this, and are worse off now than when they brought Masoli in

  4. Beck said there were some timing and communication issues in the game from both teams, but those mistakes were to be expected because of the unusual circumstances presented by the draft format of the Spring Game.

Am I the only one who read that part and thought, well then, don't have the draft format! It's not as if these "circumstances" aren't completely under the coaching staff's control. If these issues present themselves year after year, why not have 1's vs 1's?

I'm with you zoogies. If practices are at such a premium why would you basically waste one? Why not pit #1 O with #2 D on one team and #1 D with #2 O and fill in with the 3rd and 4th stringers and let them go at it? It's not like people are going to say it wasn't fair? All we want as fans is what's best for the team.

I've never understood how you pretty much just throw away a practice.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either. Especially for cfb where practices are so limited and few one would think every single one is to precious to throw away.

For what it's worth, I just listened to Mike Bellotti on College Football Live when he was discussing Boise State's self imposed sanction of taking away three practices. He said that during fall camp, they often didn't even participate in all of the alloted practices that they were given, due to injury and fatigue...i know things may be different in the spring, but maybe losing out on one scrimmage isn't a big deal

  5. Exactly. Once contact has been made, you tuck the ball away and make sure its secure. Regardless of the context, he failed to do so.

It's quotes like this which make me wonder if some of you guys even watch football. Martinez was hit on a blind-side blitz on this pic. You're telling me that in the fraction of a second from when he was hit to when he hit the turf, he should have tucked that ball?

    Be realistic, please.

You're right Knapplc (as always), I've never watched a game of football in my life. Take a look at the pic. Martinez is sitting on the defender. It may have been from the blindside, but it wasn't one of those 'knock your head off' blindside hits. The defender wrapped Martinez up and ragdoll tossed him to the ground. Taylor had plenty of time to tuck the ball, yet he didn't.

That play took less than 1.5 seconds and it is extremely unrealistic to expect a quarterback to tuck the ball under that type of situation. I daresay if you were put into the same circumstance, you wouldn't have tucked the ball either.

It's not about who is right and who is wrong. I understand people's opinions if they back them up intelligently and have a factual basis even if I don't agree with it. The point is that you're putting unrealistic expectations on a player in that type of situation. Put Green, Carnes, Kellog or any other quarterback we've had come through this university into that exact same situation and they would have fallen the same way.

And I don't mean to come off as holier than thou, but when I played football my first few years I played quarterback. I never once reacted fast enough to tuck the ball in this type of situation. Even if I got twisted around like Martinez did it's natural instinct to put your arms onto the ground and brace your fall - not tuck the ball and slam into the turf.

The reason his arm was flung out like that could be the momentum of getting swung around in a circle...thats just a pretty natural reaction to gravity when one is getting thrown

  6. I'm a radio guy, so these are just what I'm hearing...Green looked pretty bad, Martinez was 2/8 on three drives but his receivers dropped about three passes. Carnes and Ron Kellogg have looked solid, especially Carnes. Jamal Turner is a beast, catching a 20 yard TD, and returned a punt about 30 yards. Legate has scored 2 TD's on a nice of those being a 15 yard run

  7. I'm only listening to the Spring Game on the radio, so granted I can't see what's going on, but it seems to me that that when Green and Kellogg were in the game they favored the I formation, and when Martinez and Carnes were in the game they went with Pistol. If this is true, it seems to me that we're adjusting our offense to the QB that's on the field. Great to see!

  8. 1. Recruiting, let us pick which topics we want to talk to a recruit about, not the random crap that was implemented to bring a more "realistic" edge to the recruiting process.

    2. Road to Glory, let us change the length of the quarters. 5 min per quarter is way too short. There would be times that the offense takes the field once per quarter or probably 3 times in a half, that is not realistic in game and EA should know that. At least extend the quarter length for Road to Glory, but giving us a choice would be nice.

    3. Road to Glory, updated video and lines. I think everyone can agree on that.

    4. Roughing the passer, how many times have you passed the ball, counted to 2 or 3 and then watch the QB get hit and yet no penalty? Even with the slider all the way up, i keep seeing the QB get hit after every pass he throws. That needs to change.

Now maybe this is just me, but how many of you have had difficulty running the zone-read? It seems as soon as Martinez gets the ball and before Burkhead or whoever gets to me there are 2 or 3 defensive linemen waiting to see what i do with the ball. The end result is no matter whether its the QB or RB it usually equals a loss of yards. I find myself only picking up positive yards with Martinez on either a PA scramble or on the option. I would like to see an easier way to run the zone-read.

I agree with all of them, especially with the zone read...i can usually run it a few times succesfully early, then it fails miserably, almost an instant loss. Then, when you try a play action pass or a screen off of it, you get sacked or covered. Ever since i changed the sliders though, things have been better

  9. The diamond formation isn't new. It's basically the flexbone, with the qb dropped back a few steps.

Actually its not. Its not even the same concept. How are they related? If you think that because your running triple option out of a package like that its like a flexbone then I guess every formation is basically "flexbone" but with the players positioned different.

You don't give away which way you are going pre snap out of this formation like you do with the flexbone and its pre snap motion (85% of the time)

If the split back were up near the line as "wings" then you could convince me that its the flexbone or Wing T (as I like to call it) with the qb dropped back a few steps.

It is the flexbone, with the wings tighter and everyone scooted back two yards. It gives you the same advantages that the flexbone does, just in a more compact way. You don't have to run ONLY triple option or use motion out of the flexbone.

  10. kenny bell is one interesting looking human.

LOL at the husker locker photo of Eric Martin...his helmet already looks like its been through a meat grinder.

Schools usually don't recondition helmets until the summer, so he's probably still using his same one from last year
