  1. I'm going to get wrapped up in the hype here for a second....................NU wins a close one with a field goal in the closing seconds, but the Mizzou game is going to be a blowout IMO. I hope like hell we punish Chase Daniel though.

How many points will NU win by? :sarcasm

  2. Blackshirts should be handed out as a team. If the TEAM plays well, then hand them out.

Agreed. They should be given to the starting unit, but not untill they prove that week in and week out they can play with the intensity and effectiveness worthy of being called a 'blackshirt'. No doubt it was a great performance, but one solid game does not a blackshirt make. I've noticed Carl wears a black shirt on game day though.

It's so the defense can find him for defensive signals.

  3. I know what you're saying...although it does sound a little cliche to say "we need to win today, and tomorrow, and the next day...". But yes, I agree. I think we need to pull out a very very decisive victory today (i.e. a rape). We NEED that shot of adrenaline to pull us out through VT, I think if we beat VT we actually have a descent chance against MU.

(and hi from the middle of hurricane ike....this thing is over rated)

    Ike or the (Miami) Hurricanes?

  4. IMO, you need to have excellent corners to run a press like that. If your corner biffs a play and you're pressing hard, a 5 yard slant turns into a 60 yard TD. For us, to be fully honest, I do not think we've got the skill right now to do that. We need try and minimize the damage against spread offenses and take our chances when they make mistakes (which happens plenty). We also need to pressure the quarterback as much as possible, which will disrupt timing. The problem is some of those spreads run a three step drop and then the ball is gone on a lot of plays...hard to pressure the qb when that happens. But there are always chances, you just have to spot them or be a good DC and predict them (Bo is certainly capable of that).

AND get the Dline to get their hands up if they can't get to the QB - even if they don't get all of the team's interceptions it could disrupt the timing as much as pressing the corners

Next week, I believe more mistakes will be remedied, and next saturday when we play New Mexico State, things will be better. This year we have a coach that has something that we were sorely lacking last year. That is the ability to improvise, adapt, and overcome.

  6. even IF we get by VT......we just plain don't match up well with Missouri.

remember, Daniels said we played like high school kids last year...his team, if anything, has gotten better......honestly, honestly, we don't have a snowballs change in hell of beating Missouri......reality.

Neither did Appy St against MEEEEchigan last year, or ISU that one time 20 or so years ago against NU (sorry, Cy)

Probably won't happen, but things happen.

  7. ...What would you say if NU had lost?...

OMG...they'd have to post state troopers at every friggin' precipice in the state!!!

Well the good news there is that only 4 state troopers would have to work.

    I don't care who you are...that there's funny!!!

    I still don't get it.

The answer lies on the top of one of Nebraska's numerous and gigantic cliffs........

Nebraska is home to Cliff's Notes

  8. Blackshirts are supposed to be given out for giving 100% effort, and having leadership qualities....

Really??? Is that what your Blackshirt handbook says???

I saw at least 4 sacks today.

I saw 2 of the most amazing INTs by..of all things...DLinemen...go figure?!? AND...one of 'em...the biggest of 'em...ran it back 50 friggin' yds for a TD!!! :wtf

OK...I'll admit it...I said 56-13...or something like that...and I expected more today...I don't think anyone deserves a Blackshirt yet either.

But do you really think Bo was saying to himself after the game...You know...those boys were tryin'. I'm thinkin' we should hand out a couple of Blackshirts this week...maybe it'll make 'em feel better...hmmmm...

For some reason he doesn't strike me as the touchy feely type...you know?

I agree that the D did its share - you predicted 13 and they allowed 12 PLUS contributed a touchdown. Im thinking a couple more games of similar or better effort/results

  9. I think CFN is being a bit conservative in their prediction but it's not bad

    CFN Prediction

San Jose State (1-0) at Nebraska (1-0), 12:30 EST

Why to watch: Nebraska passed the first test in the Bo Pelini era with an impressive 47-24 win over a good Western Michigan team. The Broncos have a veteran defense that was ripped apart for 483 yards, including 345 through the air. Nebraska is hardly back to being the Big Red Machine that dominated for so long, but it was a good first step. San Jose State is going to be more than a mere layup, even if the Spartans needed a last minute touchdown pass to get by UC Davis 13-10. This a veteran, athletic Spartan team with a good defense and a veteran head coach in Dick Tomey who knows how to get a team up for a big game. There's a massive talent discrepancy, but San Jose State has just enough to make this interesting if the Huskers aren't on.

Why San Jose State might win: Nebraska's pass defense struggled last year, and it didn't do much to show things have changed against Western Michigan. Despite getting a steady pass rush to help the cause, the secondary still allowed 342 yards of passing offense. Granted, the Broncos were in comeback mode and had to keep throwing to stay alive, but the Spartans should be able push the ball through the air. The offense sputtered against UC Davis, but the passing game still put up 231 yards.

Why Nebraska might win: San Jose State couldn't handle the UC Davis pass rush, and now it's about to have a nightmare of a day. The Spartans gave up four sacks last week and struggled to keep the UCD linemen from hitting the quarterback. Nebraska was ultra-aggressive last week, cranking out four sacks and seven tackles for loss, and it should be able to get into the backfield on a regular basis. Set the over/under on 6.5 sacks; the Huskers should be able to come up with several drive-stopping plays.

Who to watch: It's the start of the Kyle Reed era at San Jose State. The transfer from Cal was supposed to be the main man from the start this off-season, but he suffered broken foot, got it relatively healthy, and then suffered a setback that cost him a shot at the starting job. Jordan LaSecla and Myles Eden were ahead of Reed going into last week, and they weren't bad combining to complete 12 of 15 passes for 94 yards, but they each threw a pick and didn't get the offense moving. In came Reed, who completed 14 of 18 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner. Now it's Reed's job.

What will happen: Nebraska won't be sharp, and the defense will show it still has a long way to go before it can be dominant, but it'll be a second straight double-digit win. It just might take three quarters to get the job done.

CFN Prediction: Nebraska 34 ... San Jose State 16 ... Line: Nebraska -25.5

Must See Rating: (5 Entourage premiere - 1 One Tree Hill premiere) … 2

the description of how the game would unfold was spot on!

Wow - unnerving. and I'm taking next week's article to Las Vegas.
