  1. If you are back farther, that is farther you are throwing the ball, more time for the defense to react, too. Also, a deep shotgun gives you an easy angle at defensive end, or whoever is coming off the edge to rush. Has to be harder to snap that deep too, so why not have someone coming hard right up the gut?

My only question is do the ref's extend their idea of the "box" that you need to be out of to throw it away when in the shotgun? I wish that rule never made it to college. What will be funny is if we play Mizzou and it turns into a defensive slugfest, everyone will be scratching their heads then.

Yeah - I can't remember, is their OL with 3 yd splits like TT? In a tight formation the QB would need to run laterally 4 yds or so. Spread - 8 yds-ish.

  2. I think if you beat every team in your division you should be declared automatic division champions. For example lets say Nebraska beats Missouri, Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas & Kansas State but then loses to Texas Tech & Oklahoma & Missouri beats Texas & wins the rest of their conference games, Nebraska should still be declared automatic division champs since they defeated every single team in their conference division head 2 head. thoughts?

I agree. I have advocated for this several times in the past. Now it is the overall conference record, not your division as someone else mentioned.

  3. O’Hanlon played the entire game — special teams, too.

“My legs were totally exhausted by the end of the third quarter,” he said.

Those two things — O’Hanlon’s late emergence into a starting role and the fact nobody came in to give him a blow — are exhibits A and B of the unsettled state of Nebraska’s secondary.

Perhaps not surprising, then, were the mounting mental errors and busts as the game progressed — Western Michigan had a pair of 50-yard completions in the second half. The Broncos threw for 342 yards and had a 61 percent completion rate.

If you are physically tired, the chance of mental mistakes increase exponentially

  4. I say give them out to individuals first. If you grade high and the coaches feel you deserve the blackshirt then give them out.

Plus it might invoke some competition amongst the other defenders.

Post game Bo kept talking about defense is a team not a bunch of individuals. I say the team will get them when they get them.

From OWH article on Big 12 PC

Pelini offered nothing new on the status of Blackshirts, apparently still absent from practice.

    “We’ll see,” the coach said.

Asked to explain, Pelini said he’s still waiting for the top-unit defenders to earn their coveted practice jerseys.

“We haven’t been together long enough for that to happen.”

  5. another cream puff with a losing record from 2007.

    first "test" will be vaTech.

after what happened to vaTech saturday, they will need to fix a few things themselves before the nu game. IF they can...

    GO BO!!

    BEAT SAN JOSE!!

So sayeth ATM about Ark St

  6. What a stupid penalty................

What penalty? There is no rule change on this. See here:

    http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/season_...es_changes.html

Many bones were thrown, both during the tunnel walk and during the game, and not one penalty was assessed because of it. I think someone's mistaken about some new penalty rule...

Probably depends on what officiating crew is working, and if they know the history of NU defense.

  7. Remember last year after the Nevada game ESPN projected that Lucky would end up the season with something like 5000 yds rushing based on one game?

Other than records (the entire Big 12 North will go undefeated and will all play in the championship game, well except for CU right now who won't play a game this year) what stats from the first week are waaaaaaay out of whack.

I'll start. Based on 8 yds opponents rushing, NU ends up with 104 yds total for the season.

  8. It probably is rough after so many years for some fans to understnad the current circumstances... Hopefully for Husker fans they won't have too much time to learn. I know a lot about having an unranked team if anyone needs help, though, I am just about an expert. Cy knows more though, so there is that... :P

    Jayhawk

Last year. In what week did KU break into top 25? Might be a good comparison, except we play MU first conf. instead of last

  9.

Offensively, not sure what happened in the 2nd half. There was a big letdown. They could never get the momentum back.

I think with a lead they wanted to run the ball and the clock - and lost momentum after the first couple of series. Read they loaded up the box, so they had to adjust the play calling. Haven't heard that in 4 years.

  10. Do you think that BC and KC watched the game last night? I am sure they THOUGHT they could have done a better job. What do you think? Great game guys. Congrats to you and the staff. Glad to see we are on the right path.

I doubt that they watched the game. They could not see it with their heads so far up their rear ends!

Even though they were part of the problem I hold SP totally accountable for the TEMPORARY demise of NU football! :box:box:box

    Fixed it for you

  11. they have looked extremely sloppy to me. and against a not so good team. if we are just average we beat them easy imo. they just have a very bad O. that D cant win every game for them and it hasnt looked great in the first place. im just hoping that they dont have a loss before they come to lincoln.

I think they said ECU had 8 wins last year. Root for VTech, we can beat them and it will be better if they are undefeated going into the game. As I type this ECU is up by 5

  12. Straight I Formation, Two TE's to the right, one on the LOS, the other positioned as an H-Back. Swift split out wide to the left, Ganz, Lawson, and Lucky in the I. McNeill in motion to the left side, Ganz hands off to Lucky heading back to the right led by Lawson on an inside zone play. 11 yard gain.

    Homophobic?

  13. I have a difficult time accepting KU's defense is/was better than USC's. In fact USC finished #2 in total defense...Kansas finished 12th.

I agree, I was just afraid to bring it up for fear the thread would degenerate into another "KU is teh best evar" vs. "KU is teh lose" thread. ;)

I think if you were to add in strength of schedule, KU's overall defensive rating could quite possible be way over-rated.

    :yeah
