Well you go on living your boring pessimistic life and let the rest of us who enjoy life have some fun by having hopes for our team.

You are part of the problem. Being a realist isn’t pessimistic.

  2. Drink all the kool aid you want. Wisconsin beats us by 3-4 scores.

Ive gotten into the mindset that if you just blatantly sunshine pump and blow smoke up peoples butt all the time it works the same way as being negative with kids.

Being a realist is the only way to live in life.

I'm assuming that was Bo's last game. And if so, it stands to reason, plenty of valid criticisms and frustrations with Bo's accomplishments aside, we didn't know how good we had it winning close ones under Pelini, especially after he got settled in. Look at the W-L record in all these games decided by a score or less or where we were trailing any time in the 4th (from memory):

    L Va Tech 30-35

    L Texas Tech 31-37 OT

    W Colorado 40-31

    W Clemson 26-21

    L Va Tech 15-16

    W Missouri 27-12

    L Iowa State 7-9

    W Oklahoma 10-3

    W Colorado 28-20

    L Texas 12-13

    L Texas 13-20

    W Iowa State 31-30 OT

    L Texas A&M 6-9

    L Oklahoma 20-23

Beg? I have zero interest in how many wins, losses, or hotdogs shot into the upper deck.

I could say “Nebraska is 26-0 when playing a team with birds as their mascot” or whatever. Just pointing out winning record isn’t quite as arbitrary.

Don’t let your perceptions project onto others’ posts.

Then why are you posting if you don’t care? Seems like a silly thing to do and a complete waste of time.

For the record I even said that “beg” was my word choice. Yet you still got defensive and threw a hissy. Wahhh!

I don’t disagree that we’ve been worse since then, because we certainly have. I’m not even arguing against a “curse”. But arbitrary stats aren’t the best way to back it up. Anyone can pick out arbitrary stats to backup their hypothesis.

I think a winning record would be better. After all, you said 7-6 teams didn’t change it that much.

    carry on.

Yea except based on where the program is thought it SHOULD be...Should we really beg (my word) for 7-6 to be included just so we can add 15-20 more wins or so to an awful statistic?

If we do....then that's more telling of where the program is than the stat alone.

  6. Maybe its just me but when I watch other games of other schools they always seem to be playing super hard, and I haven't gotten a feeling of a Nebraska team playing crazy hard for some time. Also, am I naive to think that QB's that play NU always have hay day's? I swear Montez will play like dog poo next week. You watch...

  7. The Curse of Black Friday was brought up in another thread and prompted me to go back all the way to 2001 after that awful, pitiful, and miserable game. Since that day.....

    Nebraska is....

    26-68

....against POWER 5 schools that have finished with a 57% (7-5) win percentage or better in a given year. Probably worth noting that there are a handful of games Nebraska has won vs teams that finished 7-6 but when push comes to shove, there's not enough of them to change that awful record by much. It's easy to know that it shouldn't be good considering how underwhelming Nebraska has been for a long long time but I like putting stats to things.

Notable Wins (9 wins) (vs teams that finished 9 wins or better) INCLUDED in the win column listed above

    2006 - Texas AM (9-4) 28-27

    2007 - Wake Forest (9-4) 20-17

    2010 - Oklahoma State (11-2) 51-41

    2010 - Missouri (10-3) 31-17

    2011 - Michigan St (11-3) 24-3

    2011 - Penn State (9-4) 17-14

    2012 - Northwestern (10-3) 29-28

    2015 - Michigan State (12-2) 39-38

    2016 - Minnesota (9-4) 24-17

Notable Losses (19 losses) (vs teams that were less than or equal to 56% win percentage or a non power 5 team) NOT INCLUDED IN THE LOSS COLUMN ABOVE

    2002 - Iowa State (7-7) 36-14

    2004 - Southern Miss (7-5) 21-17

    2004 - Kansas St (4-7) 45-21

    2007 - Oklahoma St (7-6) 45-14

    2007 - Texas AM (7-6) 36-14

    2007 - Colorado (6-7) 65-51

    2009 - Iowa State (7-6) 9-7

2010 - Texas (5-7) 20-13 *Red out against the world* sigh

    2010 - Washington (7-6) 19-7

    2011 - Northwestern (6-7) 28-25

    2015 - BYU (9-4) 33-28

    2015 - Illinois (5-7) 14-13

    2015 - Purdue (2-10) 55-45

    2017 - Oregon (7-6) 42-35

    2017 - No Illinois (8-5) 21-17

    2017 - Minnesota (5-7) 54-21

    2018 - Colorado (5-7) 33-28

    2018 - Troy (10-3) 24-19

    2018 - Purdue (6-7) 42-28

These are your sobering facts for the night.

Those 2 incredible plays were needed to beat a cu team that wasn't that good.

Don't get me wrong, I love that win as much as anyone, but The Curse of Black Friday was looming that year when Oklahoma smeared us all over their field and Joey Ganz was intercepted in yet another OT loss to Texas Tech.

Some good things have happened since Black Friday, sure, but we've still been irrelevant, several years downright bad. There's always injuries, penalties, dumb mistakes, or bad coaching that pushes us further down the hole of suck.

When we win a conference title, somehow, some way, possibly in our lifetime, then the Curse will indeed be broken.

I did a stat thing long ago when Pelini was coach about what Nebraska’s record was against teams that lose 5 games or less in a given year. It was ATTROCIOUS!

it would obviously be even worse now.

The worst part is I'm not sure how or when it'll be broken; what will need to be done to appease the Football Gods so they will lift this dreadful curse...

An identity like Wisconsin. Who took it from us.

No more hybrid. You’re either downhill or a space team. Doesn’t matter by formation but you can’t teach both. It’s just so counter productive.

First games are often a horrible barometer of the rest of the season.  I don't think it is sensible to become hyper focused on either end of the spectrum  The offense might not be that poor and the defense is unlikely to be turnover machine.  The defense today looked good against a team without the depth and talent that they will face moving forward.  The offense struggled most notably on the line and QB play.  Perhaps more disturbing is they looked uninspired.  Maybe this is the wake-up call that puts talk of personal trophies and division championships to rest and focus on game by game, play by play.

Even though I expected better. Northwestern did lose to Akron last year and win the West.

Oklahoma doesn't love us like that.

They proved that when the Big 12 was formed.

Don't some of you think that maybe Oklahoma wasn't very fond of the Nebraska rivalry because they were so bad in the 90's compared to NU. I feel like that played a part but I also don't know anything.

What's the worst thing that anyone in this thread has had happen to them specifically by Colorado fans? All the urban legend stories always seem to be at least one degree of separation away from the people telling them.

When I was in High School my brother lived in Loveland. We were there for thanksgiving, we lost the black friday game, and the next morning we found our vehicle was covered in eggs. We assume it was the Nebraska plates.

When I went to the Oregon/CU game in 2013, the Colorado fans had only asked us (Oregon) to not win by 50.

It happens. It was almost 20 years ago now, and like I said, I try not to think about that game much. As a high school kid, I was convinced Nebraska would win. Whoops.

I was in 7th grade and totally thought Nebraska was going to win. Blind optimism of being a kid. Now I'm overly cautious agaisnt Illinois every year.

I'm sure many of us have erased it from memory because it was a blood bath, but Nebraska did play Miami in the Rose Bowl/BCS National Title game in January of 2002.

But, I agree with your overall point.

My bad! I had it listed in my spreadsheet I keep track of, not sure why I forgot to list that!

  16. I'm sorry but most of us hate Iowa.

To me its a rival, not because of the current situation but embracing the longevity that it will be. It doesn't have to stay on Black Friday. Nebraska isn't changing conferences again so think about the schools you absolutely want to piss pound.

That's Iowa, and Wisconsin in my opinion. I can't freaking stand either of these two schools. Minnesota, Purdue and the rest of the west division is so irrelevant to me. Kansas was more relevant to me.

Since 2000 (Only current Power 5 + Notre Dame teams included =65)

    Wins

    Nebraska is 21st with 154

    Iowa is 24th with 151

    Nebraska has 0

    Iowa has 2

BCS Bowls / New Years 6 Bowls (non playoff games or championship games)

    Iowa has 3

    (EDIT) National Championship Appearances
