  1. If he reported it to the administration (the people who should have handled it appropriately and understand their legal obligations more than Paterno), and then was unaware of their handling of the situation, I figure Joe Pa comes out the other side of this. Without more information regarding Joe Pa I won't pass judgement. Thank god those more deeply involved in this ARE getting removed.

  2. Rex plays with more heart. Ball is more athletic. I'd take Rex. The big thing to consider is this:

    Ron Dayne

    Anthony Davis

    P.J. Hill

    John Clay

    Montee Ball

Hell Brian Calhoun would probably be the least noticeable on that list and yet had the best individual season in the 2000s.

When will this spring of Heisman hopeful runningbacks dry up for Wisconsin?

  3. I think Kansas is hampered by the other regional schools. MU, NU, Iowa and Colorado steal too many of the recruits in this area. It's really an issue of supply and demand. The demand by the other institutions for quality football players is already more than the supply and Kansas is left with scraps. Moving to the B1G will not necessarily chase any of the small number already here to them.

  4. LARGE playoffs are a problem. Small playoffs are not. Especially in a sport such as CFB where you do not have a chance to play other subsets of the population. We are a segmented set of groupings and there is no possibility for reconciling this with the short OOC schedule. We are the one instance where playoffs MAKE SENSE. It has a possibility of producing one or two games a season which are meaningless, but it supports the integrity of 99% of regular season games. A small cost for eliminating instances such as our current one.

Even a +1 system would eliminate any discontent save Boise this year probably. As well as that in 2003.

  5. Most younger people I know tailgate before and hit up the downtown after. Embassy Suites is usually packed after the games. On the earlier kickoffs (2:30 or 11:00) people tend to sit around there and watch the other games on the t.v.s. It's a bit pricey though and you'd probably do better to hit up the typical bars. Barry's is going to close (unless a new owner keeps it the same) after the season and has been ranked as one of the top places nationally so for history's sake it would be worth a visit.

  6. I got to thinking, looking at the schedules and with a good roll of the dice for Stanford and Wisconsin, we could end the season with a slate of undefeateds the world has never seen before.

    Boise State - Easy Street

Oklahoma/Oklahoma State - Almost assuredly one will make it through

    LSU/Alabama - The SEC Equivilant of OU/OSU

Clemson - A struggling Georgia Tech and South Carolina away from a shutout

Wisconsin - Contain Dennard and manage MSU's defense and they appear to be there

Stanford - Meat of their schedule ahead, but still a punchers chance

Now, speculatively, we can assume that the Big XII and SEC are poised presently to pit their undefeateds. Without loss of generality:

    NC: LSU vs. Oklahoma

The Rose helps us narrow down the field:

    Wisconsin vs. Stanford

And we get the bowl with first/last picks to snatch up the cinderella Boise, and then end up waiting until the rest are picked before having to take the Big East winner....

    Boise State vs. WVU

Now you're left with a possibly undefeated Clemson team that could have a number of possibilities for opponents. I think that given the chance, Alabama-Oklahoma State would be picked by a bowl to set up a series of Big XII - SEC matchups. In this case I'd imagine possibly Oregon. Regardless, it appears that Clemson will have their hands full.

In the end, with this setup, you're almost assured of three undefeateds at the end of the season:

Boise & Winners of two undefeated matchups

Finally the push after the Auburn fiasco to get this mess moving in the right direction?

  7. I am sorry for you. Having to stare at their ugly architecture on the KSU campus all the time would make me a sad panda. In terms of football, this is probably the year to watch them. I can't imagine their coach will be working much longer and they will not be as relevant for a while as they are under him. They seem decent this year. I'd say your best bet is to head to some basketball games though. You can watch a different style of basketball than is played in the B1G at a pretty high level.

  8. From years of experience, you really need to wade through the unfortunate UW students to find the lifetime fans who are a joy to be around. For instance, my brother's friend opened up his house to some 40+ husker fans and let them tailgate there. He knew none of them. No fights, no problems, just good talk and lots of food/beverage. The big issue is that:

    1) There are a lot of drunks on gameday

    2) The students are dicks

If you are willing to forget the students, Wisconsin has fine fans. The issue is their student population makes ours smell like roses.

You can't say that their obscene chants are really what make the students bad fans. It is the actions they take which are sometimes similar to those we've experienced with Mizzou or Colorado. If you hang around some Wisconsin fans, the bad ones leave you be. If you are alone as opposing fans they target you. I wouldn't venture anywhere close to Fraternity Row. If you just come down from Monroe and head straight to Randall there are only a few minutes before you are in the gates that are bad. Once inside I've never experienced any problems.

  9. Because nobody wears black to Wisconsin games.

Why not? Are Wisconsin fans upset that we are wearing black?

No, they just don't. Never have. Somebody said on here a while back that a bunch of Wisconsin fans wear black. That's just not the case.

I think the black out is a cool idea though.

Unfortunately, this is just wrong. When the cold sets in the hoodies and jackets come out and you see a significant number that are black or navy with the stitched Wisconsin lettering.

The first example I could find.

  10. I hear from my brother that there are standing offers out over $200 at his work for tickets still. The prices have not dropped and you will be paying at least two bills just to get in the door I think. Bit unfortunate, but that seems to be where it's at. There will be a lot of Huskers around town partying if you don't make it anyways. I know of one get-together with 30 UW fans and 40 Husker fans close by the stadium.
