Giles Moving Closer To Commitment Day

    By Phil Kornblut

He didn't mean to tip his hand, and maybe he didn't, but RB Jarvis Giles (6-0 180) of Tampa Tuesday night may have provided a clue about what he's thinking regarding making a commitment to either USC or Nebraska. Giles disclosed that USC head coach Steve Spurrier and running backs coach Robert Gillespie will make an in home visit with him and his family Thursday night. Asked if that meeting could seal the deal on a commitment to the Gamecocks, Giles responded, "I know for a fact I'm going to.... well, I mean, I'm going to make a commitment next week." Asked if he meant he was going to commit to USC, Giles would only say USC and Nebraska are his top two. Nebraska's running backs coach visited him Monday. "It went real good," he said. "He explained a lot of stuff to my dad. My dad walked out with a lot more knowledge about Nebraska." Tennessee recruiters Stan Drayton and David Reaves are to visit Giles Friday, Giles, a former Tennessee commitment, said he's not strongly considering the Vols. "I just want to hear what they're going to say."

  2. Well it looks like Nebraska and South Carolina are extremely close..

Giles: South Carolina, Nebraska “neck and neck”

Despite a recent effort by new Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin to woo Gaither running back Jarvis Giles back into a verbal commitment for the Vols, Giles said told the Times that South Carolina and Nebraska are “neck and neck” as his favorites.

Giles returned from his official visit to Nebraska this weekend – he saw the Huskers’ rivalry game with Colorado – impressed.

“The atmosphere in that stadium was outrageous,” Giles said. “It was like the stands were shaking in there. When it comes to that I think Nebraska’s got the edge. And Nebraska has a 96 percent graduation rate, so that’s impressive too.”

Giles said he talked to Kiffin Sunday morning, a day before he was introduced as Tennessee's new head coach, and that he told him he saw his tape and said he was an "impressive back."

"He said he'd look at more and get back to me," Giles said. "Lane Kiffin is Lane Kiffin. He seems like a good coach. I mean, he coached Reggie Bush (at USC) and he's a good back, but we'll see. I'm still decommitted."

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier is planning a visit Thursday (He is also expected to visit Hillsborough running back Lindsey Lamar also). Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini has also pledged a visit this week.

“It’s going to be a busy week,” Giles said.

  3. Maybe Washington isn't sold on Nebraska...

DI JON WASHINGTON, SAF, 6-0, 173, 4.5, LAWNDALE (LEUZINGER), CAL

Di John Washington committed to Nebraska and now maybe wavering. It’ still up in the air.

“I went there (Nebraska) a couple of months ago for the Missouri game. I liked the fans base, coaching staff and history.” Washington said

“I call the coaches every now and then. Nebraska coaches said I have a big chance of playing early but not promising anything.” Washington said

“I went to Nebraska to meet the staff. I didn’t care much about the surroundings.” Washington said in reference that Nebraska is an agriculture state.

“Coach Sanders is recruiting me.” Washington said, “He’s pretty much straight forward about things. He was at Nebraska before and a couple other schools. Nebraska is recruiting me the hardest.”

“Bo is a great coach, great history on defense. They (Nebraska) will get there with Bo. They made a real big change this year they went 8-4 and make a good bowl game. Nebraska is headed in the right direction.” Washington said

“Nebraska is known for their powerhouse, they want to get their program where it was at first.” Washington added

“Nebraska coaches say I’m real fast, have great ball skills, have great range, height, good athletic ability.” Washington said

“I still hear from schools that offered me and Oregon. Oregon State wants me to visit them in January. I’m not sure if I will take any more visits, Oregon State sure wants me to come. I will probably tell them (Nebraska coaches) If I do go, I’m not sure I’m going.” Washington said

Are you 100 percent committed to Nebraska?

“I really can’t say that, I’m committed, that’s all I can say I’m committed. Washington said

“They (Oregon State) are a pretty good program, they’re average every year. They (Oregon State) get good defensive backs. I talk to coach Heyward he’s a pretty cool guy.” Washington added

Will the Nebraska coaches be upset if you take a visit to Oregon State?

“I’m not sure, it’s a big decision you know. Going to school for four years, I’m pretty sure they (Nebraska) want me to make the best decision.” Washington

  4. Does anyone have the video for when Niles Paul got lit up to end the half and the students that it showed after that play.. I got text from a ton of my friends saying I was on there and of course I didnt Tivo the game.. Any help would be great.. And yes I was standing by 2 Iowa fans..

  5. Hmmm.. I read that article too. Just didnt know what Oku considered a "spread" offense. Volnation thinks he might be going to OSU with his teammate Lowe.. Oku has two official visits left that he can take. I would imagine that we would be at the very least in his top 3. Unless we quit recruiting him..

  6. So, any idea's on where he'll end up?

Said that he is sending tape to 15 teams that don't run the spread.. I don't know if we have a chance or not.. Is our offense considered a spread??

  7. He stated in the article his top 2 so far are LSU and Texas. He already took an unofficial to LSU this year and has gone to there camp the past 2 years. Obviously they think they can get him. However I think it would be a mistake not to take Michael...

  8. I guess that he really wants to go to LSU but they arent going to take him at this time. LSU is really high on a junior named Lache Seastrunk from Temple, Texas. He is probably the best back for next year and has a ton of offers (Nebraska of course). I wish Nebraska was at the point where they are turning down 5 stars. LOL. My bet is the LSU will offer him at some point and he will end up there. If not, I would say that Texas A&M has a spot saved for him.

  9. Looks like Giles is looking at a Plan B, but the plan doesnt involve the Huskers. He might be visiting South Carolina, others he might look at are Georgia and Boston College.. What did we do to this kid? Did we stop recruiting him altogether??
