  1. Lol... I find it funny Arkansas finally has an instate kid that's the best RB prospect looking at them since McFadden/Jones and they still find a way to mess it up. Oh, Arkansas... seriously, though, we should get on this kid. Could be the homerun threat that could take it to the house at any time that we sorely need.

He's mad at the Arkansas coaches because they arent paying attention to his best friend Dakota Mosley. Dyer and Mosley want to go to school together but Mosley is basically being ignored by the UA because the UA has 4 scholarship TE's already and only 18-20 available slots open for the 2010 class. Mosley and Dyer travel everywhere together on visits, and theyre suppost to be in Fayetteville next weekend. I guess if they show up this time or not will speak volumes.

If Arkansas wiffs on Dyer it will be a huge huge loss. But, the hogs will be ok reguardless. Arkasnas has four 4 star RBs on the roster (Ronnie Wingo, USC transfer Broderick Green, DeAnthony Curtis and Knile Davis) and they're all young too, either freshmen or sophomores.

Dang, that's quite a stable of RBs. Nice problem to have.

  2. Ditchweed eh? Care to wager on how many yards Witt has as a Cornhusker this year? <_<

    Uh...0?

    I WIN! I WIN! I WIN!

Cy, you know I have your back, but you need to find a sig pic for ISU players that does not include a fog machine.

That's not fog...that's the designated smoking area.

Ok, then may I gently suggest ISU remove all field goal posts or other impedimenta from where players exit the smoking area?

  3. The long dog days of summer are on the way and I'm already tired of waiting for football season. 2 more months and Rex will officially be in Nebraska.

I'm resisting the urge to gush about this young man, but DANG I cannot wait to see how he changes the equation. I think his work ethic and guts will elevate everyone around him.

  4. I think all the DB spots are pretty open. Nobody distinguished themselves last season. Asante and Thenarse looked good at times and terrible at others. O'Hanlon was more consistent, IMO, but had some bone-head mistakes also.

Whoever can learn the system will play. I'm not even looking for great play at this point - just mediocre would be an improvement.

While I agree Asante looked like he was out of position at times last year, some of that was due to another DB blowing their assignment, forcing Larry to come in late and looking like he was out of position. He was out of position a couple times, but on others he was trying to make up for someone else's screwup.

Regardless, he WILL be pushed this year and if he doesn't have the mental part down, he will be sitting on the bench.

Competition, she is a great ding, mon!

  5. I'm hoping we can start the ball-hawking that has been a Bo trademark. Winning the turnover battle is huge in getting W's. It's impressive we made it to 9-4 with such a crappy turnover-ratio.

The secondary should look much better. They'll be in-synch with Sanders, more fundamentally-sound, and with a command of the system that should have them consistently in-position. Hard to say who will get big minutes with Gomes, Blue, and Dennard in the fray and Haag practicing at safety.

D-line should be a strength again. Meredith and Williams should provide good depth. Crick and Baker should step-in for Ty credibly.

LB play could be erratic early-on depending on how young we go but they should fly to the ball.

We may have a top25 defense.

You guys were not ball hawking last year and the year he coached at OU they didn't get any TOs either. Maybe that first year was a BIG anomally?

Keep hoping, bro, keep hoping. :cop:

  6. Anyone seen this guy play? 6'5" and over 270 means a lot of kid to coach up if the other skills are there. Would dearly love to PO Iowa State East by stealing this one. Scout has him listed as a 1*; Rivals has him unrated, but holding offers from ISU, ISU East and Missouri.

Supposedly one of the top players in Iowa. Offered shortly after Nebraska's Junior day. ISU fan supposedly, but Iowa and Nebraska are top 2?

Oh and moving to 2010 forum.

Thanks for moving this, Pete. Kinda sorta looked for it but couldn't find his thread. Bet that "Search" thingy woulda helped. :bang

  8. Good. I don't think that anything significant would have happened to him anyway

Not necessarily, they could have made an example out of him to some degree. Hopefully he will keep his nose clean now and there won't be any other problems.

He will have to on diversion. It is a year program that will require him to do community service, and attend substance abuse classes. If he gets in any trouble while on diversion, all the original charges will be reinstated.

Yes, I speak from experince about this program. of course my charges were much more serious

It doesn't take a year (from someone who went through it) <_< . But, while he's in it, he will have to keep straight.

Never went thru diversion, but have investigated many who have. The length of the diversion program depends on the severity of the offense. So you are both right.

Husker football: Charges against Ben Cotton are dismissed

    BY JON NYATAWA

    WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

LINCOLN - The Lancaster County Attorney's Office has dismissed the charges against Ben Cotton, a Nebraska tight end who was cited for his alleged involvement in a February dispute.

Cotton, the son of NU assistant coach Barney Cotton, was charged March 13 with minor consumption and disturbing the peace. But the case was dismissed by a county prosecutor last week.

On Feb. 28, UNL campus police cited Cotton for minor consumption, disturbing the peace and trespassing after responding to a quarrel inside Smith Hall.

Cotton, an Ames High School standout, was listed as the No. 2 prospect in the state of Iowa by rivals.com and scout.com, but he redshirted in his first season with the Huskers.

My guess is that he was offered diversion, which results in charges being dropped in consideration of successful completion of the diversion program. Of course, they also might have just dropped the charges unconditionally due lack of evidence.

Either way.......Ben, keep your nose clean, avoid the hoochie koochie joints, avoid fast women and otherwise do not act like a typical college kid.

  10. Ha! According to articles I have read just about every school in the Big 12 is going to be under about 50 feet of water when the Great Nebraska Sea fills up again within 50 years...with the exception of Iowa State, Colorado and Mizzou (and when the New Madrid fault line lets go down there in Missouri, Columbia will be nothing but a hole in the ground anyway...like there's a difference from what it is now) So...Iowa State and Colorado will be the only two teams left in the Big 12 and since Colorado climate is not conducsive to growing quality weed, everyone in Boulder will migrate to California, leaving CU virtually deserted....and I'll finally be living on beachfront property!

Hurray for Al Gore and Global Warming!!!!

By the way, I find it quite amusing how your state is the only of the entire union that ends with the sound "ass"...actually it starts with the sound "can" which is basically slang for "ass"...

    Coincidence? I think not.... <_<

Vintage Cy. I can honestly say that whenever I see a post form you or TuffTiger I immediately go to those posts.

One modest amendment to you excellent post. Columbia already IS a hole.

    :nanalama

  11. My point was I do not think it would be looked upon favorably by our AD. Bill and Tom are pretty good friends I have heard.

I can see the score getting away, but I doubt Bo will intentionaly run it up. That is what I am hoping for.

Coach Snyder had a couple of not so good years before he left, but prior to that he had done a lot with very little. He knows how to do it no matter his age, but as someone mentioned will he have the drive to do it.

Time will tell. I wish him luck, it shows his love for the game, the kids and the competition. I respect that in him. And as far as age goes, you are only as old as you feel. 63 years old, did a 50 mile mountain bike ride over the weekend, camped out in the snow and road snow for a little over ten miles at 7000 feet. Never count us geezers out until we can not breath.

Good for you, 'skers. I'm 54 and weight-train and run (a little). Thank God for Advil. :cop:

  12. Oh, and one more thing. In the days of yore when we often had the game well in hand, such as against Kstate, that we even got a look at our 3rd string quarterback during the final minutes of a game. Well, look for that possibility to surface on a more frequent basis again. This year's game with Kstate may well be the first game in years where we get a good look at the 3rd string quarterback and others.

    Did I mention I can't freaking wait?

My feeling is that Bo will not try to run up the score, because his boss might not like it. HOWEVER, that does not mean that the score may not be run up anyway, because TO never tried to run it up on out-manned opponents, but the score was ugly many times regardless. If Bo has his second and third string it and Mr. Burns can't keep the score down, so be it. No foul on Bo, and maybe Martinez gets some snaps at QB.

    Win-win......unless you're Mr. Burns. :cop:

  13. The following article is about what I think will happen with programs in the long term over the next 50 years. It does assume the conference will stay intact, that football talent will still come from about the same place and that trends of late are continuing. All of these assumptions may be wrong, but those are what I used. If enough ineptitude is left to run any of the following programs, or vice versa, actual results could vary. My goal was to speak to more permanent features that programs have built, and to look for who has potential to add and who is likely not to maintain those features…

    Tier 1)

    1) Texas - This is the school almost every kid in Texas seems to want to go to, and they have oodles of money, fans, tradition and facilities. I do not particularly like their fans, but they have it all.

    2) Oklahoma - This team is the place that can get top talent under the Longhorns nose. They also get first pick of their own litter. The have enough campus/weather/facilities to do pretty well getting the kids they need, and they probably have the best winning tradition in the Big 12 to sell with their 7 national titles.

    Tier 2)

    3) Texas A&M - This place has it all, except they are overshadowed by being in the same state as UT. They have a great setup, as good of fans as anyone, lots of money, access to players, etc. They just can't point to the scoreboard on OU and UT and they are stuck with that. A&M fans are incredible, though. They have money, they give it, and they create an awesome atmosphere. Midnight Yell Practice, for instance, is about as cool as it gets.

    4) Nebraska - By far the best tradition and fan base in the North. Also, in the state of Nebraska, this is IT. Not as many distractions, one school represents the state, they don't get overshadowed by the pros. Only issue is that they are far from the recruiting fields, the weather, Lincoln is nice but not for everyone (but is nicely situated in the state to be near the people who are the fans), and they don’t have the ludicrous money of UT, but they do pretty well. Like A&M, there are some built in disadvantages, but I would say there is enough strength to view NU as a major future threat, just like they had been in the past.

    Tier 3)

    5) Kansas – What is this madman talking about? How can he put his Jayhawks here, sacrilege! Well, KU has always had a top flight Baskeball program and to this day can get any kid in the country to come to Lawrence. The town is nice, and it is 30 minutes from Kansas City. KU had always been good in revenue, but since football started improving, they are closing in on 2nd in funding (just having lost to OSU). If KU can keep a decent product on the field to give people a reason to come, they are not growing to their potential. Large investments have been made in football, and if Mangino stays with us and things keep progressing, KU will be a future force in Football. The story could end a few ways, but the potential is definitely there

    6) Colorado – They have the prettiest backdrop in the country. Boulder may be full of hippies, but that down is drop dead gorgeous. They are near Denver, they are the best school for about 500 miles in all directions and they have won it all before. On the down side, the worst thing they have is a weak fan base. I guess it is like Southern California, just too many other things to do. Their revenues and attendance both reflect that. Hard to overlook their past success, though, and they do have their advantages.

    Tier 4)

    7) Oklahoma State – How can I say that they are not in the tops 2 tiers when they were second in revenue? Well, they are the second team in a small state. I love the resources T-Boone has put behind them, but while they hae some great palyers in their past, they cannot hold a candle to OU. Futhermore, they are really not that close to a major city and I think the odds of them continuing their current revenue, which is based largely on one person, is not really a long term strategy. I just think they are clearly not in the top 3 in the South, and that will catch up to them in the long term. They will have their years, but for the most parts, they will not be considered a consistent power

    8) Mizzou – They have one HUGE advantage, they are the only major football school in what is easily the second biggest state in the Big 12. Too bad that they share KC with KU and St. Louis with Illinois. They have never been able to be considered a real national power, and while they have had some good teams, they have never shown Columbia can attract top talent. No BCS bowls, no Final Fours, definitely no football national titles. I just do not see that they can be consistently great, just good. They are also not that close to any major city, which seems to help a lot. Mizzou has also not shown me they can raise funds to compete. They have one nice angle, but too many things against them for me to consider them a top threat. I think they are in a great position to be good, but that is about it.

    Tier 5)

    9) Texas Tech – Well, they are in Texas, and that helps. There is one problem here, they are in Lubbock Texas. The high point is, they are the ONLY game in town, but that is the low part too. West Texas is not very exciting place, and college football players like exciting. The reason for the crazy schemes is that this is what they need to do to get players. They are at a high point right now, but I do not think this will last too long. They spend less on athletics than any other school in the Big 12 but Iowa State, and that will cost them in the end. I think if they get the right coach (which they have) and a few good players, they can do something, but that is hard to do forever. An uphill fight.

    10) Baylor – Well, they have been down for a while, and they have a lame off campus stadium. That can be fixed though, and Waco is not that bad, at least it is in a decent part of Texas. They have access to recruits, but they do not have much of an image. I think these guys will be able to field some good teams at times, but when they get down, it is way down. It is hard to rebuild when you have their Big 12 South Schedule to play each year. I think they cannot truly catch the big powers, but they are not truly deserving of the bottom.

    Tier 6)

    11) Kansas State – Being the little brother school in the state the size on Kansas is not a good thing. Unlike KU, they are not a national program, they are not near a major city and they have a lot less money. Other than a 15 year stint under Bill, they just do not have much going on. Manhattan is really not the ideal college town, people from there seem to like it, but I am not sure it is the most impressive town to recruit to. So, in summary, not a great town, not near a city, not a lot of money (3rd from the bottom in spending), not much tradition (but at least a little recent success), not near recruits and not great facilities.

    12) Iowa State – Sorry boys, but you are at the bottom. Smallest budget, smallest stadium, not near recruits and definitely the 2nd school in a small state. The worst part is, this is really more of a Big 10 state, so it is not even in the right conference. Des Moines is not a massive town, so at least ISU is near that and they do have nice fans in spite of their marginal status. I would say that winning the Big 12 Norht is about as much as these guys can hope for, and a lot of other people need to not be doing their jobs for this to happen. I just don’t think wearing USC’s Jerseys is going to fool anyone. Sorry Cy…

Provocative stuff, Hawk. 50 years means its anyone's guess, but it's fun to speculate. I would imagine that in 50 years the NCAA will be finishing its investigation of USC. ;)

  14. Given how Bo and Snyder interacted (ok, mostly Bo) in 03, it could be interesting to see how it plays out in 09 when both meet as HC. One would assume Bo will downplay any revenge talk. However, given how both teams and both programs stack up now, what will happen when NU has the game in hand early on?

  15. Where the hell have you been?

but you're right. Clones win the north this year...

Do you call them the 'clones' because they look just like USC?

    :cowbell:

 It's CYCLONES...not Clones you homicidal desert plant. Only a true fan can call them Clones...just like I'm sure true Husker fans wouldn't want people running around referring to them as the Husks...That would be rude. But...because you are from the south and manners are no doubt foreign to you, I will let this slight pass.

For the rest of you...it's Cyclones...so named because we will Rock You Like A Hurricane (which is actually just a Cyclone but with a lot more hot air...and better recruits)

You will all quiver in fear much like India and Ceylon after a devasting visit from this year's storm hits...

Saints preserve us, this is good stuff! :corndance

  16. It's a highlight video, but even so, three things stand out:

    1. Pretty good wheels - he managed to chase down some smaller - and presumably pretty fast - backs.

    2. Takes great angles.

    3. Seems to have a knack for not getting caught up in the wash on the interior. Gets off blocks well.

Agreed, and he's opportunistic. Some of his tackles for loss were the result of blown assignments on the O line. But not every LB has the savvy to take advantage of those. True, it was a highlight reel but still, I like his nose of the ball.

Oh, and he's a much better LB than a TE.

  17. I hate to burst your celebrity bubble but none of these guys that go to this school are above average. Their school is in a small division in the valley. They DO NOT play any teams in the top 4 divisions out here even though they are offered home games all the time. They brag how they've won all these title's but they don't play anyone. It's a christian school that is owned by a rich guy and of the 700-800 students enrolled 90% are there for athletics. claussen went there and they dodged teams left and right when he was there. They're in the same division where Marlon Lucky, & darrell scott played. Hell, Long Beach Poly & Mater Dei's junior varsity team would beat these guys.

So what are you saying? That Montana, Clausen, Lucky, and Scott are scrubs?

Hey ACE did you read what I wrote? I'm saying they're stats are over rated - they don't play anyone tough out here and refuse when offered.

Kind of a snarky response, doncha think?

  18. #5 sure does draw a lot of parallels to where we're at right now.

OT: one small difference, the prevailing interest rate is now near 0; in the early 80s, it was in something like the teens. So now no one will give you a loan, and then you couldn't get a loan because it was too expensive. OTOH I'm pretty sure that that football is recession proof, so I think you are out of luck, Cy.

I just refinanced my house at 4.5% and saved myself a couple hundred a month on the payment...obviously there are still some stupid bankers out there.

Funny thing was...even after a flood and some major rebuilding that isn't done yet, the appraiser still wrote it up as worth about 1/5 more than I paid for it 10 years ago...I'm pretty sure that's so they can raise the taxes on me. I'm hoping for another flood this year. Maybe I'll be able to convince them that it washed away my brand new Mercedes....along with all the paperwork...that I just bought two hours before. That didn't work last time <_<

ROLF! If only all the posters from other teams were like Cy......

  19. Wow...I've been away too long. I didn't even realize Cyclone bashing season had begun yet!

The rankings for the Big 12 North will be as follows:

    North

    1. Iowa State

    2. The rest of the losers in the conference.....

Because no one cares about who comes in 2nd.... <_<

    :rollin

sorry, i don't know you but you've got to be joking right?

    Cy's good ppl.

It's generally considered bad form to try to pin him down on predictions of ISU's chances. We try to to be better hosts than that. :cop:

  20. My five is pretty standard

    Lee/Spano/Green

    Baker/Crick

    Compton/Dillard/Fisher

    Blue

    Niles/Cooper/Gyllen/Brooks/Holt

    Ricky Henry

Stein/Crick/Moore (we need this interior D position to be solid so teams will be forced to dble team someone other than Suh. Ty Stein. did yeoman's duty in that regard)

Zac Lee/Spano. There is absolutely no reason not to r/s Cody as long as Lee and Spano are good to go. If one of them goes down, THEN consider taking off his shirt. Taylor Martinez, anyone?

    Whoever is center.

    Whoever is long-snapper.

  21. Florida State has offered.

I'm curious to what extent FSU's smack-down by the NCAA will affect their ability to pull in the better recruits?

Off-topic.......I have no beef with FSU getting hammered, but USC continues to get a pass?

    Oh, yeah.......nm. dedhoarse
