    Dear huskerboard,

I hope this finds you well

As MinnwiscowaSker stated, it is now 3 cb's Nebraska and 1 cb Texas. All the cb's for Nebraska are from Texas "insiders". It appears they know something we do not. More information to follow.

    Cordially,

    Nphuskers12

    Are you writing a letter?

First of all, thanks Nphusker12 for the update. Much appreciated. Decked, that was.......marginally snarky. Having said that, I laughed like a loon.

    :P

Bottom line is, Eichorst will never fire Riley, because it would reflect negatively on him. In turn, Riley will never fire Banker due to his loyalty. So basically we're stuck until Riley's contract expires. I don't have any faith that we'll make a good hire when it's that time again, anyway. We need to shell out big time $ and go after some big time coaches. Heck I remember when I said we should pursue Petersen and people laughed and said he'd never leave Boise. Washington proved that you never know unless you try.

The new chancellor may fire Eichorst. If the sellout streak ends there will be consequences.
Why would he fire Eichorst? How has Eichorst failed in his job?
Well, he's fired two more successful coaches and endorsed two under-performing ones. So.....
For some of us, it's always been about more than just the W/L columns.

And you're smart enough to know that at least one of those coaches wasn't fired simply for his W/L record so why keep acting like he was?

    OMG.

    Steve Pederson agrees with you.

Funny thing about Steve Pedersen, he wasn't fired because he hired Callahan. He was fired because he was an a-hole to work for and had the entire AD in disarray. (paraphrashing again.)

To the bolded, you may want to revisit that time period.

Okay, did that. Your point remains an enigma wrapped in a conundrum.

Another tidbit about Steve, Osborne recommended him for the job. How 'bout them apples? :)

Was Osborne the chancellor? Or was the chancellor brainless and did whatever the Representative told him to do?

The chancellor was never a fav of mine, but I'll put his brains up against yours, mine and Zoogs (combined) any day of the week.

There was a time when Charlie McBride drew the fans ire like Banker is now.

Banker and Riley said they wanted to run a 3-4 defense when they first got here but we'd have to wait because we didn't have the bodies to make it work yet. (paraphrasing)

McBride's teams won conference championships, finished in the top 10 in final rankings, played for National Championships, and some of his defenses were top 10 defenses PRIOR to the change to the 4-3.

    Not apples to apples.

Ya, either you weren't around in the 70s and 80s or you forgot or you chose to forget to mention it. When NU had big slow defenders and OU was burning us every year, and Charlie was in love with a 5-2 defense, Voices From the Grandstand were calling for his head. They sounded a lot like, well, you.

  4. TheSker is only blaming the coaches because he hates them and wants them gone. He has never once given them a chance and won't because he decided they weren't worthy before they ever got to campus.

Yep. He exists to crap on this staff at every turn.....and there's his problem. I actually agree that the staff shares some of the blame regarding Gerry f'ing off his last semester. The staff SHOULD have someone monitoring every player's academic performance. That criticism is absolutely legitimate. Where TheSker and his compatriots go wrong (and they're too dense to realize it) is that they blame the staff in excess for everything that goes wrong......NG being the latest example of their excess.

When they do that, it just makes it that much easier to ignore ANYTHING they say, even on those occasions when their posts have some merit. "Oh, it came from THAT guy? IGNORE"

Most of us are not blind to the failings of this staff......I know I'm not. But I will not go into those failings just because the haters will take over a thread and beat it to death.

Oh, and Cav gets one more year to prove he can get the job done. If not, "Read" his fanny to the curb. (Ya, I know I said I wouldn't say anything about the staff. Consider this a trap......)

We had a soft chancellor, who hired a soft AD, who hired a soft coach with a soft style who brought in a soft staff.

This should not be a surprise to anyone who knows.

Really? We need a hardcore Chancellor who will, at academic meetings, head butt other school's Chancellors and/or swear at them?

    Did I say that?

The softness flowed from the top. Not sure what Green is like, but hopefully the next AD isn't as soft as the former coach described.

Oh please. Read your friggin' post. The implication was clear and if you want to walk it back now at least be a man about it.

At the very least you're predictable.

If you don't mind my interruption of the pity party, much thanks to Ryker Fyfe, Brandon R., Alonzo Moore and all the other seniors who did their best and fought. Missed the softness there but I'm confident you will find a way to inject it.

Nate G., live with yourself. You gave your teammates the middle finger when they needed you most.

Too bad that the current admin/staff had no repercussions for truant players.

No argument here. If he was not attending classes most the semester the coaches deserve some of the blame. But ya know what, NG is a grown-ass man who knew what he was doing. Most of the blame goes on his head.

  7. I've already seen the hype train on Tanner Lee starting to churn, just like the hype train for this years recruiting class did last spring. Media trying to convince us of something in order to keep the heat off. If any of you are expecting Tanner Lee to be something special, prepare to be disappointed. He's about a notch above Fyfe.

I realize that's your opinion, and you're entitled to it. But do you anything to back it up, or is this the second bottle of Ripple talking?

  8. What you saw today is what you will see next year. A QB running for his life because we have no offensive line at all! We have no desire because we don't recruit kids with desire - how many NE kids are at ND and playing above the level of kids we have on this NE team. Riley is a 500 coach at best. 6-6 next year is likely.

Trick question or did you have an answer?

We haven't backed off of him.

The accuser has came out and said that the sexual encounter with the recruit and the other guy were consensual. It was the later encounters that produced this horrible situation.

I don't want to take a recruit who bangs a random girl while on a visit to another university?
Are you gay mate? It's okay to tell us.

Also the not wanting to take players who have had sex with girls before is a little too high and mighty for my liking.

The mind boggles with remarks like this. Some schools in the SEC cheat like dogs......you okay with that or is it a little high and mighty for your liking.

It also a little upsetting that so many are painting this kid guilty and condemning him when he actually didnt do anything wrong but have sex at a college party.

With knowing next to nothing on the exact things that went on (nobody does other than the people involved), there's a part of me that feels sorry for this kid that went on an official visit, got in the middle of something bad with players who were supposed to be hosting him and it's affecting his future even at other schools.

I'm not saying we should have stood behind our offer or that pulling it was wrong. It's just a bad situation a HS kid is in when going on a visit like this.

Not a good look for Minnesota.

"If even half of the report is true, that's some special kind of f'd up s**t that went on up there."

  12.

    He's not on the staff.

Exactly my point. The John Parella home run was preceded by the Hank Hughes strike out.

I would still like to know what transpired with the defensive line on the whole mass migration out of Nebraska. The only clue is what Greg McMullen said, and the fact that Banker and Hughes didn't even know he left until informed by the press:

Greg McMullen: "I don't badmouth anybody. But I have never talked to him (Banker). I've seen him, tried to speak to him. Nothing ever really resonated. Coach John Parrella has been there a few weeks, and we probably talked six, seven, eight times over the last few weeks. Same with Coach Riley. Coach Banker has been there over a year, and I never even saw him, never received a text, a call, anything.

"I'm an adult. I don't really get hurt about too many things, especially not if someone isn't reaching out. To me personally, it's more that it would be nice for a defensive coordinator to at least show some appreciation or level of respect for an individual."

My point may not have been clear. I saw Hughes as a negative on the staff. When he left my opinion on the staff changed positively, I credit Riley for seeing a deficit and correcting it. Another plus (change in my attitude) for the staff.

Can you agree that the cupboards were pretty bare... ?

Explain to me again this "cupboards were bare" legend.

Three linemen (Collins, Valentine, and Gregory) that would have been seniors this year are good enough to play in the NFL.

The other two defensive linemen that left were good enough to play or start on many teams and a third is starting at Nebraska now.

Nebraska has the same starting quarterback in Tommy Armstrong (who Riley has now figured out).

The starting running back (Newby) was in the cupboard.

Westerkamp and Reilly are from the previous staff, as is Alonzo Moore. Combined with #15 below, I would say that's a pretty full cupboard at wide receiver.

Riley's three deep tight ends are all from before, with Cethan Carter having a shot at the NFL.

They also left the top punt returner in the nation (Pierson-El) here when Riley took over, although he's not getting many opportuniites now.

Sam Foltz was one of the best punters in the country and would probably be heading to the NFL after his Senior year.

Now, the offensive line had only Alex Lewis, who played "not very well" at Nebraska his last year but went to the NFL, so I don't know whether to put him in the plus or minus column.

So most of the movers and shakers on offense in this now Top Ten team were ones "in the cupboard" when Riley rolled in from Oregon State.

I guess this is how urban legends get started... :koolaid2:

Everything you said is spot-on. No quibbles. But, linebacker depth was awful. Offensive line depth, abysmal. I could mention place kick holders as well. None of that refutes that Bo built solid depth in RB, DB, (somewhat) defensive line (although misses in recruiting means that we will have a break between Maurice and everyone behind him......the Davis twins and Stolt are good, but no juniors? inexcusable!).

For me the bottom line is the staff is home run from top to bottom except for some reservations about Read.

  14.

Man, I just get tired of people constantly pooping on our coaches.

Did you like the product on the field last year? Sorry, but they are deserving of a little poop until they can prove they're better than a just over .500 (lifetime) coaching staff. I like the staff as people, and for being such great ambassadors, and have nothing but respect for the way they've held the team together during some really adverse times this past month, but not so much beyond that.

Ya, I agree. Cuz the body of evidence at NU is SO vast only a homer could conclude anything else.

    Right?
