  1. Did anyone else hear the announcers say that Drew Wiley is a better pro prospect than Booger?

Oh, and one more thing, Buffalo has a conference championship trophy in football and will now have to get themselves a trophy case to house it. MU doesn't need one of those trophy cases. Maybe this weekend, but the odds are stacked against them.

    Ergo, UB > MU.

That is all. (Insert fishing hook here).

  2. If what ifs are in play that one win wouldn't put NU into the BIG 12 CC. Because the whatif's would give MU two more wins. What if KU doesnt score on 4 and 7 with 30 seconds left. What if OKS doesnt score with 1 minute left to take and lead and what if CD doesnt throw a pick as MU is driving to win that game. What if Mu wasnt 8 points from 11-1. What if Mu was 11-1 instead of 9-3. blah blah blah

What if's dont count for S**T and really TT could say, "What if we would have played NU like we did Texas, we would have won by 40 pts"

    :)

You've illustrated why I normally don't play the what-if game. But, since I've already broken my own rule with this thread, I'll add to your post: Missouri is also 4 points from being 8-4. (In other words, what if Baylor's QB hadn't thrown his first interception of the season?)

  3. The shortened link didn't work for me, so I took the time to listen to the whole segment. Super well played.

I really wish I had a job that was talking about the Huskers and making fun of people - I'd be great at it as I do it now for free.

  4. Well, yeah, that's one side of the argument. You may think it's flawless, but it's far from it. If it was that straight forward, there wouldn't be so much controversy over the subject. However, if I use your logic template:

Oklahoma shoulda coulda woulda didn't take care of business against Texas. They lost, head-to-head, on a neutral field, 45-35. So, not only did Oklahoma lose, but they lost to the very team they jumped ahead of. So, this means that winning head-to-head doesn't make the winner better than the loser? What sense does that make?

I really hope you aren't in favor of a playoff system...

I hear ya, and understand the argument.

The whole BCS system is a joke, so no, I don't think anything here is flawless - it's anything but. The point is, these are the rules now, and because of the rules, Texas feels slighted. Last year they wanted to lobby for more than 2 teams in the BCS bowl games. It's always "not fair to Texas in some way". Even if playoffs were somehow instituted, someone would still be on the outside looking in. Someone will always feel slighted. Again, these are the current rules and the Big 12 member schools had to basically agree to them, and therefore abide by them.

Side note, unsolicited opinion - I believe that if the two teams replayed at this stage of the season, Oklahoma would win handily, and feel they would represent the Big 12 better in the title game. That is, provided they win the conference championship game. Texas has improved drastically from last year, but still under performing, IMO. Even if this thing doesn't look right on paper to some, it still feels like the best outcome.

  5. Why the sour grapes?

I thought the CU fans took it well..

But then..I only talked to one..The next day at the local Home Depot.

Saw my huskers shirt (and my Son's Ohio State shirt) and lamented at already seeing a Husker shirt earlier Saturday.

We both agreed it was a great game and were both proud neither team gave up..And We both expressed our hopes that the Hawk is allowed to stay and turn the program around.

I agree with the game assessment, but disagree about this being sour grapes material. LSUFreek is pretty renouned in college football circles for his farks. He. does it for mostly SEC teams, but probably does it for (or against) Nebraska since Bo is here now.

Correction to original post: add that he seems to do it for a lot of football teams, both NFL and college teams.

Here are more from last weekend's action: http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/20...kend-in-review/

and another related one to the Huskers: http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/the_sweep/posts/13162

  6. I don't usually play the what if game because my motto in football has always been: shoulda coulda woulda didn't.

    but here goes anyway.

1 - What if Ganz doesn't throw an interception in the Texas Tech game?

2 - What if Crabtree was tackled instead of scoring in the waning seconds when TT played Texas?

The whole CCG landscape changed with those two plays, and REALLY it changed on just the first one alone. I know I can't just assume Nebraska would have won because Tech hadn't stopped the offense the whole day, but without that interception, chances of a "W" were really very good. And, I can't assume Texas would have won if Crabtree didn't break a tackle for a score.

Had #1 not happened, and Nebraska won by 1 point, we'd be buying tickets to face Texas in the CCG. Even without that play, #2 would have put Texas in there.

Texas and Nebraska shoulda coulda woulda didn't take care of business, and shoulda coulda woulda didn't get to the CCG.

My point of the exercise? I don't want to hear Texas complaining. They signed up for this system, and every year they complain when they feel they are slighted by it. They needed to take care of business against Tech and didn't.

  7. Sounds like Spurrier is just a whiner. I have no idea about the rules, but if Kiffin's on the Tennessee payroll and passed his test, then there should be no infraction. TO did something similar last year - let's consult him on this to see what the rule is.

  8. ESPN should be seen and not heard. Great for watching games, but zero credibility after that. Zero. Squat. None. Bupkiss.

I think my favorite thing of all time was watching them all squirm and back pedal after they reported that Les Miles was going to take the Michigan job. And, I personally believe he was going to until they backed him into a corner by reporting it too early.

  9. 1999 is my choice because of the wider range of impact that game had. If the Bluffs had made the field goal, KState would have gone to the Big 12 Championship game. So, blowing that field goal not only ripped their hearts out, but the KStaters that had to be thinking they were as good as IN, and then WHAM.

    Bahahahahah.

  10. When I was in Ames 2 years ago for the game, I saw tons of people wearing "Iowa State North Division Champions" shirts. It was from the year where there was likea 3 way tie.

You guys do get a trophy. KU got one last year when they tied us.

I thought KU had to commission their own, and I also recall the KU fans on the Scout board so excited over it. I thought it was lame when they did it, and I see no reason why we should do it. Just lame lame lame to an infinite degree. It is fun, however, to mention it to MU fans that in their two greatest seasons in recent memory, they actually had the same conference record as the 2nd place team in both years.

I saw the Huskers play and saw MU play some. I have no problem admitting they are sole proprietors of first place in the North. It's not even something I'd admit anyway since the North stunk up the joint this year. :dumdum

  11. Florida State would be awesome . . . plus I think Georgia Tech would be too much for us.

Did Dr. Tom ever beat Free Shoes U? I don't think he did (someone please correct me if I am wrong). Thus, if my assumption is correct, and if Bo manages to pull it off -- what a way to end his first year -- doing something TO never accomplished.

  12. :dumdum I liked it when BO admitted that he got greedy and made a bone headed call for the fake kick. Just goes to show what a stand-up kind of guy he is. Just the kind of man to re-unite the Husker faithful. Would that call rank up there with the fake punt call (cotton bowl)that (he who shall not be named) made? Your thoughts.... :restore

It wasn't that bad of a call, just really badly executed in my mind. By rule, with the kicker moving out of position to kick the ball, the holder had to have his knee off the ground - which he didn't. Play should have been blown dead at that point, whether it was successful or not.

If it had worked, everyone would be slapping Bo and the players on the back saying how great it was, but since it turned into the disaster that it was, it kind of made him look like a goat. Yeah, Bo is stand up, and admitted that he called the play. If it would have been BC it would have been about how poorly the players executed the play, not about how he probably shouldn't have called that particular play at that time...and if it had worked, it would have been all about BC's genius game plan and how they saw something in film...etc.

I think it also shows that the NCAA needs to seriously look at how the rules are being defined...either they are rules or their not. I didn't like the response given to ABC's commentators when they asked the officials or the NCAA about the "loose interpretation" that they allowed in one conferences officiating over another. The rules should be the same for everyone...and by the book.

Bo should have thrown the flag on that play and made them review it (knowing the rule of course) realizing that the holder still had his knee down on the ground. That touchdown by CU would have been reversed and called dead at that spot the holder got the ball. I don't know if Bo didn't see his knee was still down, didn't know the rule, or was just silenced by the official.

The officiating this year has really sucked. Too many missed calls in just about every game played. Video review was supposed to take care of some of this...but I am beginning to think you should be able to challenge a lot more of their calls such as penalties or a no call that is obvious to everyone in the stadium except the officiating crew for some reason...like the personal foul against Ganz on the sack. How the official is standing right there and missed that one is beyond me.

It's like you're inside my head! Get out, it's scary in there.

  13. I seriously will lose all of the respect I have for Ekler if he leaves.

Hunh? If they offer him D coordinator, you think he should turn it down? Seems unlikely.

Sorry, I backed out of my stance. I just replied that I would understand if it was for a promotion.

  14. Are the KU assistants going to get use of laptops and other tech this time?Snyder didnt let them before.

And for the Ekler comment, one anonymous post on a fanboard does not make it even a real rumor.

At first I was thinking exactly that. Then I remembered another rumor discussed here awhile back about 2 assistants not being here next year, and Ek was one mentioned. So, maybe there is something to it. :dunno

In any event, I decided I will still respect him, as well as any staff that might leave for other opportunities, since he has to make and live with his own decisions. I'd understand leaving for a higher position, but if anyone leaves and takes the same job for the same money, I'll personally

    <intentionally left blank>

  15. I bet weekly on games on betusa.com and bodog.com and looked at how many game we were supposed to win just before the beginning of the season. Nebraska's line was 7 wins and I took it figuring a push or maybe better. so we should be 1 win better than "they" expected before the season started! GBR!

Thanks. I thought it was somewhere around 6. Either way, 7 is already achieved and 8 is well within our grasp.

Do you remember any of the other Big 12 ones off hand?

Thanks to the first poster for the search suggestions - couldn't really find it that way either, but at least now I know how to search next year (and bookmark it!).

  16. He will have his hands full thats for sure. Especially if Freedaman goes pro.

Funny thing about that is that Freeman never considered KSUcks when Snyder was still coach - it was only after the clown prince was hired that Freeman felt the "bond". It will be interesting to see what TEXT BOY decides to do....somehow, I don't see that as a match made in heaven.

Rumor that Eckler leaving to go to KSU:

I seriously will lose all of the respect I have for Ekler if he leaves.

As for the post about the "Match Made In Heaven" between Snyder and Freeman -- didn't Freeman blame all of Snyder's recruits for all of the team's woes? I think Freems is filling out his paperwork as I'm typing this.

  17. I remember seeing a website before the season even started, and it had odds of each Div IA team winning X number of games.

I'm not a gambler, so I don't know where to find it, if it still even exists. I don't even know what key words to use to search.

I thought I'd go back and visit it to see how accurate the odds/predictions were for some of the Big 12 teams, and it's bugging the heck out of me that I can't find it. Obviously I wanted to see if they were right about Nebraska's W total (so far).

Sorry if this is off topic, although it does pertain to the Huskers in that I want to know how many games 'they', whoever they are, thought we'd win.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
