  1. Frost made comments about that game, in how the culture finally started to change after that.  Then, we saw steady improvement start to come.  The process isn’t complete yet, but it’s really taking root.  So, no, I am no less enthused after any of the early games that looked the way the Purdue game looked.  The team started to GET IT at that point.

Not to take anything away from Martinez, but I hate all comments coming from "coaches at Manning Camp" because they convinced me Tanner Lee was our savior. Big difference is Martinez has already backed up the hype on the field to some degree, but still.

Yes, we’ve actually SEEN what 2AM can do, so it’s not really hype.

When similar comments were made about Lee, I watched some of the Tulane games and was dumbfounded at what people were seeing in him.  I had hopes he wouldn’t be the Tulane Tanner, and that better coaching (LOL) would improve him.  But, we all saw the exact same player at NU as I did in those Tulane games.

I don’t remember off the top of my head, but I think there was around eight additional MNC titles we could claim.

TAMU was new to the SEC back then, and we all know how they like to inflate their numbers.

And they have a conference championship in ‘97 (guess they developed severe amnesia about being SPANKED in the CCG)

(Even though it would benefit me personally - I live in Austin and would have more chances to watch the Huskers.)

Once upon a time, I thought it would be ok if UTerus joined, provided they played by the same rules as all the other B1G members.  But, after realizing they’d slowly try to take over the decision making, I think the above post by Toe is appropriate.

We should definitely open the year playing a West division foe like Iowa or Northwestern or Minnesota.  A lot of the time we are going to be better than any 3 of them, starting with a tougher test out the gate and notching a division win while saving a cream puff for later in the year is just smart scheduling.

We start with Purdue next year.

The national writer put that pick in last fall when Coach T was still there. It probably doesn't hold much weight.

That’s my point tho.  I don’t think there’s weight to the CB for Cal - just that no one besides Husker followers are putting in the CB’s.

Uh, ya it’s more crazy actually. Martinez is #6 nationally in returning total offense (any position).

Nebraska fans are a little too self deprecating sometimes. Martinez is legitimately a good player and probably a great one. #1 in the B1G is where everyone should predict him to be this season.

Not really self-deprecating.  He’s a fantastic player no matter how you slice it, but to be number 1, he’s going to have to have some really good targets to throw to.  We know JD’s going to get as many touches as he can handle.  Then who?

Anyone else think it’s crazy a kid with like 30 passes to his name and has never taken a snap in the big 10 is the 3rd best QB? Slow it down Braden

Not as crazy as saying that a QB of a 4-8 team is #1.  :)

Really strange to read these comments ...

"Said he liked Nebraska more than his 3 previous official visits with other schools.   Also asked another player if the coaches 'were like this all the time' and they responded yes.  Said he really liked the coaches.  Said he really liked the city of Lincoln and that everyone was nice and genuine and it was more than he thought it was going to be.  Says he can tell that the current players really like playing for the coaches and he could tell they were having fun doing it."

... and then to read Leana's comments.

Well, still hopeful to find our best guys.

    Who’s Leana?

    CB from Christopherson N.

I'll laugh pretty good at this if we get him. Right after Corcoran committed there was a big thread on the KState board about Corcoran being overrated and Conn having the much higher ceiling. They went on about Conn being a lock for KState and they're getting the better player blah blah blah. Now not only are they not in the top 3, we are in the driver's seat.

We’ll be needing a link to the KState board now.

I disagree - we know we have a good coach. You don't go undefeated in any conference without at least being good. Exactly how good does remain to be seen and we definitely don't know if he's great yet, but 'good' isn't really a debate.

I mean, you don’t need to sell me on the notion of it, just trying to look at it objectively.  He went 4-8 here.  I doubt he does it again, but what if he does?  Still a good coach?  Spoiler alert:  he won’t.

It's common for a good coach to go 4-8, 5-7 or 6 6 in their first year only to go like 10-2 in their second year.  Pete Carroll and Nick Saban have done it, there are a few others but I'll have to look them up

To be fair, the majority of us THINK we have a good coach, but we won’t really know for a year or two.  If we’re 10-2, I’d say he’s a great coach.  I’d still say he’s a good coach with a lessor record, but still bowl eligible, until the entire roster is his, and has at least a year under their belts.
