They're getting quite a bit more than room and board.

Since you brought up the NCAA tournament revenue, that sounds like a lot.  And it is.  But - again - the pie gets split a lot of ways.  Even using the entire $1B number - which doesn't take any expenses out but is only one revenue source - and divide it among the 179,200 Division 1 student-athletes, that comes out to $5,580 each.  which is less than the stipend is right now.

Then factor in division II and lower and this gets very interesting very quick.

    Why this spread?

Because Vegas, unlike some of the supposed Nebraska “fans” in other threads, have seen what most of the sane, rational fan base has witnessed—that there has been progress made, that the team is getting better, and they’re getting close to turning the corner.

And lest anyone forget...Vegas is in the business of making money. They have zero f***s to give about the feelings of Nebraska fans. They’re using their own eyeballs and making a judgement call.

Your post raises a good point. I'd actually like to meet the people who make these lines. I bet there is a lot they could tell us we might not be seeing.

I predict it will be recognized within the next 10 years.

I’m guessing Perlman and Eichorst convinced Minnesota to not recognize it because its origins irritated them. They’ll be a distant memory by then.

This, right here. Also, considering Frost has already mentioned Pelini in a positive light, it's just a matter of time.

Plus, the best trophy games are the ones that happen organically, and not the ones contrived by the B1G front offices. That's exactly why there's a passion for this trophy and why people give a s***--it's a construct of the people, by the people, and for the people who watch and root for these teams.

All very good points. But i'll take the action on within ten years. i'd wager within 5.

    True.

Another thing that needs to be clear.  I usually don't complain about these things.  But, the production of the game on Saturday really really really sucked.

I'm not talking about the announcers that everyone seems to rag on constantly.  I'm talking about the actual production of what we saw on the TV screen.  When will producers realize that as the play is about to start, we don't need to see a close up of a player (QB).  We need to see the field and how the team is lined up.  And...how many times on Saturday did we not even get to see the play at all?

I would expect that from some third rate network that's just trying to get into showing college football....but, ABC has been doing this for how long?

That tends to happen when there is a lack of competition. We broadcasters have noticed it as well.

I am a big believer in looking at data when looking at bringing in new members of the coaching staff. When Diaco was hired in early 2017 I was pretty critical of the hire as the data did not paint a good picture of his track record outside of one standout season at Notre Dame in 2012. I was also skeptical of Frost's selection of Chinander given what the data showed, but I was willing to give Chinander the benefit of the doubt. In my mind having a dominant defense is more important to becoming a championship team than having a stellar offense. Here is a quick look at where the last 5 national champions finished in Team Defense.

    2017-Alabama finished 1st

    2016-Clemson finished 15th

    2015-Alabama finished 3rd

    2014-Ohio State finished 29th

    2013-Florida State finished 7th

Now here are the finishes as an assistant in D1 football.

    2010-Oregon finished 36th

    2011-Oregon finished 96th

    2012-Oregon finished 50th

2013-Went to NFL for one season

    2014-Oregon finished 102nd

    2015-Oregon finished 115th

    2016-UCF finished 46th

    2017-UCF finished 91st

    2018-Nebraska is 70th

So the defensive philosophy Chin learned under at Oregon had one top 40 finish but spent most seasons in the bottom half of D1 defenses. His 3 seasons as a DC at UCF and Nebraska put him around 70th in D1.

I understand Frost has a long history with Chinander, but I think he needs to take a step back and assess whether his defensive background is what is needed to get Nebraska back to competing for championships.

Well. This is why you look at more than the numbers.

The Nebraska defense by design, is similar to how Oregon was designed. And that isn't to necessarily always stop the opposing team, but create turnovers for an offense that is supposed to score every time it touches the ball. This style of defense is supposed to work with a no huddle offense as they recognize it is impossible to maintain a top 30 defense year in and out when the other team is always winning the TOP. The other team will gauge your defense for big yards and scores but you should win by multiple touchdowns if your offense is good.

Obviously we aren't were we need to be yet to make this system work, but firing chins in a knee jerk reaction aint gunna fix it either.

Here's how the depth chart has changed since Akron. Lots of movement, lots of guys gone and guys in new places.  A couple of well-earned demotions, and one baffling non-change, as noted below.

Maybe that comment didn't mean what I thought it meant, but it sure seemed like Frost was saying Weinmaster was taking over at MLB.

The last time frost made comments like that there was changes. I think you are are probably right and young is probably out of a job.

Ozigbo career vs Wisconsin leading into Saturday

IIRC. Last season, Wisconsin struggled to stop Ozigbo most of the first half. I would have liked to see more of a running game Saturday.

We also had a staff that had preferred the one back approach and frequently dismissed the idea of any kind of backfield rotation during those years. When you look at frost at UCF a lot of guys carried the rock, the idea is to take advantage of mismatches. The staff thought wiskey might struggle with washington in space. it was worth a try.

Frost obviously felt that NU’s line wasn’t going to be good enough against Wisconsin’s front 7 to run right at them. That’s why Ozigbo didn’t get many carries. It was annoying to hear the BTN announcers commenting that Ozigbo was wasn’t getting many carries. I like Kugler, but he should know that running straight at Wisconsin isn’t like running straight at Purdue.

    This guy gets it
