  1. I'm surprised they consider this their biggest home game ever. Nothing on the line here. If Wyoming wins, it means nothing for their season. I would think a conference game with the championship on the line, or a game with a potential bowl bid, would be bigger.

    Weird.

Yeah...this really isn't anything special. Their OC is calling it "the biggest game in program history.", which it clearly is not. The biggest game would be one that propels the program to greater heights, or sets them up to make a run nationally. Unfortunately, they'll probably lose 4+ games this year and this game doesn't have that much of an impact to it.

Personally, I think they're setting themselves up for a let down. If they lose this game, and lose it in bad fashion, it could be a real season destroyer after using this mentality.

Do you guys not understand that every team we go against is their BIG game for that year? This has been going on for 4 decades now. Wow wake up.

  2. Omg people, its one freaking game where we would wear a diff color uniform! We wouldn't be breaking tradition. Get over it, the players want to do it, they are the ones playing, let them do what they want and if they want to wear all black for ONE game, its okay with me and it should be okay with you. Maybe it will give us some extra juice. New uniforms and a night game, the guys will be PUMPED to play!

Good post if the players want to where them so be it. I don't like the black out idea at home but going to Wisconsin this year and

Ohio St. next year why not????????

  3. This whole realignment deal playing out the way it has the past couple of weeks makes me want to walk up to the numerous other Big 12 fans and say "How you like us now bitches?"

    LOL

last year all the KC radio jerks were saying how bad it was for us to leave. Now there saying yeah we can't blame A&M for leaving or OU for jumping ship. What a bunch of ass clowns.

  4. Per AP Twitter Post...

    And a SB Nation article...

As the Big 12 disintegrates, it's time to at least consider what could happen to the conference's remaining schools besides Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri, each of whom holds cards ranging from ALL OF THE CARDS to possible SEC interest maybe. What about Kansas and Kansas State?

It's been assumed for a while that the two schools are required to remain in the same conference by state law or some such, but that's actually not the case, as they've been saying for a while now. Kansas chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little emphasized that arrangement again Thursday.

If the two did split up, it would likely be better for Kansas. Neither can offer much of a historic football program, but KU at least fields a top basketball program, which could serve as a fine marketing program for some conference's football season! Plus it's closer to major TV market Kansas City.

The Big East and maybe ACC are probably the only major conferences who'd consider Kansas, and that right there is just total speculation on my part. Still, it's worth noting that the two rivals could theoretically split.

Very interesting...wasn't sure if the two were tied together, guess the KU chancellor is going to do their own thing.

While the article says Big East and ACC only, a lone, unshackled Kansas would be a prime Big 10 expansion target if they go to fourteen schools, and would be perfect to combine with, say, a Rutgers or Maryland (for TV market expansion).

Plus, it will give us our annual migration game back. :)

Kansas will be going to the Big East

    Just what I'm hearing

  5. The Big 10 is already broadcasting all their games nationally, so adding "markets" is near pointless. Especially if you're adding markets by getting teams that don't move the national interest needle.

This is not correct, Saunders. If the market is a 'local' market, then the B1G Network can increase the carrier cost to the cable provider significantly. This time last year during expansion talk, it had come out that the rates the Big 10 Network can charge (because they're a local provider) are significantly higher in their footprint than the rates for cable providers outside of the B1G footprint.

Since the B1G uses the local market revenue for base operating expenses to the Big 10 Network, that ultimately means a fatter operations bottom line for the network. This is why Mizzou was in the mix--if the B1G picked Mizzou, then the cost for cable carriers to provide the B1G in MO (read: KC, St. Louis) triples (or quadruples--it's been a while) overnight. (One of the problems, mind you, with Mizzou was that the north part of Missouri (and over 25% of the population) are already considered part of the B1G footprint.)

Additionally, this expansion into major media markets would mean the Big 10 Network could charge much more for advertising space on their network. Advertising money is the actual revenue which fills the huge pot 'o money that the Big 10 splits equally.

Just the expansion of the Big 10 Network into the Atlanta and DC/Baltimore media markets would pay for onboarding two new folks in a matter of a few scant years, if not sooner (depending on quality of product).

10 or 20 years ago, Saunders, your thinking would have been sound. But the Commissioners of these athletic conferences are wearing more than one hat--they're now cable channel directors, too, so fans need to start thinking accordingly when trying to process the logic behind these decisions.

And yes, I agree that the Maryland and Ga. Tech athletic programs themselves do nothing to pique my interest. But their media markets (and the increased revenue to DoNU) do make me interested.

If that is the case, then why didn't they go for Rutgers or Syracuse instead of Nebraska? We don't add any TV market value.

Nebraska adds plenty of TV market value. UNL's sports are basically the only sports in Nebraska so you can bet that most people are going to pay attention to them. If they added Maryland, they may be adding fans of the Baltimore Ravens, Washington Nationals, and Washington Wizards, who care too much about the pro sports to pay attention to the Terrapins. If they added Syracuse, they may be adding fans of the New York Yankees, New York Mets, New York Knicks, New York Giants, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, etc... who care too much about the pro sports to pay attention to Syracuse. If they added Rutgers, they'd be adding fans of the aforementioned teams. With Nebraska, we care about the Cornhuskers, and pay attention to only the Cornhuskers.

I've heard that Kansas City has recently lost its connection to the B1G Network, mayhaps the B1G is thinking of adding them in a couple of years to "regain" that footprint.

But I agree with matthew_m_g: saunders, your thinking would've been spot on 10-20 years ago, but the Conference commishes wear two hats now.

Kansas City has not lost it's connection with the B1G network. Not sure where you heard that.

  6. Why are going back and forth on pro style QB's and duel threat

    QB's? Not bitching just asking.

Well he really I really don't think he is a pro style. He is a pass first kind of guy, but he can run too. He passed for over 2,000 yards and ran for 1,300.

    :thumbs

  7. Bo will probably play the 2 from what i have heard and Richardson will play the one.

Good because Richardson scares the hell out me everytime he shoots a jump shot.

But he is one yell of a driver.
