I have to disagree with this and see no worries. Marty made some running plays when the pocket quickly collapsed on him. I don't think they called his number all that much. And I am not worried about an idea that there won't be running backs good enough next season that the offense will have to overuse Adrian in passing and running. Opportunity is there for the backs, it's their job, they all cannot wait to run.
It's all good, next man up, and Martinez will keep doing his thing within the game
i think Wandale and Mo can handle most of the running.......

good for him.........hope he lights it up and shows he is ready for the next level.

I'm just curious for all the people who know chin isn't the answer, how good should this defense have been?
With no true nose tackle, no pass rushers at olb all vital positions in a 3-4 along with a starting corner who can't/doesn't tackle where should they have ranked? Top 10, 25, 50?
A lot of these guys are on their 3rd DC. I really don't know what people expected out of this defense. I think a lot of people think because this is Nebraska things should just happen and thats not realistic. This defense is going to get better but its going to be bad for a while.
i think for me, the Iowa game was frustrating because i didn't see any adjustments to stop the cut back runs that were getting big yardage for Iowa....that play was there for them the entire game........our guys upfront continued to over pursue and no one stayed home for the inevitable cut back...so, we are saying that was not a coaching error?
-
NW, Iowa, Wisconsin.........they will all be back and our D will need big improvement to match up with them.
-
perfect? no, but he is not there yet........lots of positives for the kid, but back to back sacks, he still needs to work on his vision.......Frost needs to roll him out when he sees that pressure. put him in a position to succeed. use those feet to avoid the pressure.

even Frost felt frustrated seeing our linemen getting pushed around.......we have a lot of work to do up front on both sides of the ball......will need 2 years at least to see major improvement.

I don't think you understand or appreciate "pocket passing."
It's just a pass play. Quarterback drops back, receivers go out, and the more time they have, chances are they get deeper and/or more open. If a QB can hold his ground one extra second, good things can happen.
If the pocket is collapsing, he can scramble. And because it's a pass play, an athletic QB can take advantage of the big cushion of green that calling a pocket pass created.
That's not "swimming upstream." It's just good football. And it looks like our freshman QB is good at all phases.
I would have called a few more QB draws myself, but Scott Frost was the highly coveted offensive guru, not me. Or you.
i sure wouldn't say he is good in all phases of the passing game......took 2 consecutive sacks when he could have thrown the ball away........he needs to learn when to throw it away or run sooner....think he was sacked 5 times or more?

People are buzzing about whether this past Husker season should be considered a success or not. But in fact, the answer is crystal clear. Actually, the debate isn’t even close.
There is nowhere in the Known Universe where the health and esteem of an entire State in America and it’s national legion of fans is more tied to than the State of Nebraska and Husker Nation. Others may come close, but they have mitigating factors that ultimately disqualify them. It is in Nebraska’s very DNA for its State University to be national football powerhouse.
The Universe seeks balance. When things are out of balance, everyone feels it. Things just seem off, and nothing feels right. That has been the case with Husker Football and Husker Nation for the last two decades. Central to the health and stability of the Known Universe is Husker Nation and having top-level success and performance of Nebraska Football. You restore Huskers to National prominence and you restore the proper balance of the Universe. That qualifies as pretty darned important.
You say, what’s the evidence for that? You say that kind of talk is just silly? Look at the world-at-large over the last twenty years. So many things have gone wrong. So many things have gone off the rails. This all started with the decline of Husker football that began back then. It continued each year with the misguided starts and stops of program resets. All things remained out of balance. You won’t find a better reason anywhere that the world began to go off the rails.
So, this year is a success beyond anyone’s imagination. The entire trajectory of the Husker football program has been turned around from irrelevance and frustration and pain to re-found notoriety, hope, and the anticipated joys that are waiting just ahead.
Some may say that no, this is just football and football is just a game. Try telling that to all the Husker greats over the years and all of Husker Nation that has lived and died with this team and made them a special part of their very own families. Try telling that to the farmers working the blustery fields on a cold and sleeting Saturday afternoon who cling to Huskers broadcasts to keep their spirits up and give them courage to face the elements. And what do these folks do? They feed us. Pretty darned important in the grand scheme of things to most people who like to eat.
From the streets of Omaha to the dorm rooms of Lincoln to the windy Sand Hills to the sports bars in California and out to the farthest reaches of the Galaxy, Husker fans know that Husker Football will always be more than just a game. No, it is not the most important thing in life nor should it ever be. But be honest. It’s close, and in your heart you know it.
As the years go forward and the Big Red once again regularly sit near or at the top of national polls and take their rightful place in dethroning the Large Fourteen likes of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania State, Da Ohio State, and any other imposter who comes along, everyone will look back upon the Glorious Season of 2018 and know just how monumental this year was.
And the Universe will finally be able to smile once again.
Luke, Obi wan is no longer with us.

I think Michigan State showed Iowa last week that Martinez is not comfortable, and does not make the best decision in the pocket. At this point in his development the best way to limit A-Mart is to maintain contain and keep him there. He is deadly on RPO's. So force him to be a pocket passer and limit his game. Also why so many passes batted down at the line of scrimmage last few games.
exactly, he is nervous in the pocket, doesn't step up well, then wants to take off, but waits until it's too late.
-
half time adjustments on both sides of he ball were not especially good either........
physically, Iowa really seemed to out man our guys....not a lot to do about that.
the fake field goal by Ferentz almost bit him in the a$$ too.
-
most of the time he could use a 3 count and then throw the ball........if you watch the replays, most of his sacks were on 4.
either way, throwing the ball away instead of taking the sack would have helped quite a bit.......standing in the pocket was not the best call, rolling him out would seem to be a better option, didn't see much of that.......on a pressure D more slants and quick throws over the middle seem a better choice? regardless, getting sacked/hurries repeatedly call for a different plan....and we knew the Iowa defense was going to apply pressure.

I don't think you're wrong in this.
me either........etiquette requires he gets 1 or probably 2 more years.....mainly because anything we do next season will probably be construed as progress........would imagine Frost will feel obligated to keep his original staff together for at least 2-3 more years......sux.
-
our schedule will help more than anything........we have a lot of upgrading to do.
and for all AM did this season, he has some basic flaws to correct.
-
we threw the out pattern to the side line WAY too much......predictable s#!t play.
Mario has not taught AM to keep from throwing into coverage
Mario has not taught AM to throw the ball away, instead of taking sacks
slow developing plays killed the offense.....AM has much to learn

although Chin gets another year, obviously, i don't believe he survives here..........for now, he is along for the ride with Frost.
the over pursuit and failure to cover the cut back runs was a problem all day long.....no fix.
-
as Frost said, rivals are for fans.........i dont see any.
-
another kid who has improved so much........need this again at Iowa.
- 1
-
the hit out of bounds early in the game set the standard for piss poor officiating........been poor all year.
-
Iowa is our bowl game....we need the win.

-
winning these last 2 games is important, bowl or not.
-
AM will need a stellar performance.
-
sounds like our guys are pretty beat up. that concerns me.
-
Bell wanted to be the starter after he impressed a few times......and didn't want to keep working.
sends a good message to future recruits.......you must practice hard and get better and work to play for Frost.
