  1. I absolutely love my Traeger.  It can do do the grilling aspect quite well, and I actually like a Traeger burger/steak/chicken breast far more than a propane one.  Basically you get the cook and flavor of a wood/charcoal grill with the control of your indoor oven.  That and if you want to use it as a smoker, you can.  For me, it was whether I would buy both a smoker & a grill, or just the Traeger. It is pricey, but I don't think I would/could go back at this point.  That said, there are off brand which supposedly are just as good.  I know that Cabelas has a good selection of pellet fueled grill/smoker combos.

  2. I might be in the minority, but I am going to do everything in my power to just try and enjoy the "ups & downs" of this upcoming season.  Of course I want Big Red to win every game from now until the end of time. And I will probably mope and pout when they inevitably lose.  But I just find it incredibly hard to have expectations for this season.  Not just because I think they have to rebuild (which they do), but mostly because I have absolutely no idea what to expect.

    But to answer my thoughts to your questions:

    1. QB = Martinez with Gebbia as backup.
    2. Defense = Unfortunately no.  They will fly around and look like blackshirts, but I think they are going to get repeatedly gashed for big plays.

    I think the biggest issue for Nebraska is the fact that North Dakota State, South Dakota State, South Dakota and North Dakota aren't D-II schools anymore. NDSU and SDSU are FCS powerhouses. USD made the playoffs this year.

    Nebraska has 1.9 million people. North Dakota and South Dakota both have less than 900,000 people. It sounds weird, but those teams recruiting in Nebraska is like Oklahoma or Kansas recruiting in Texas.

    Each situation is different, but a lot of kids wouldn't turn down a full-ride scholarship for an elite FCS school to spend 80 grand walking on at Nebraska.

    Excellent point. The number of schools moving up in divisions has risen drastically since the 90s. There are a lot of scholarship opportunities these days.

    This is precisely why NU missed a golden opportunity to schedule NDSU for an upcoming season.  Instead, we chickened out and scheduled SDSU (which is just as good as NDSU), and UND.  The only way to knock those I-AA schools down a peg(I won't call them FCS) is to slap them around and remind them of who they are.  Until they do, they will keep getting stronger.

  4.

    Akron - W

    Colorado - W (but no way as guaranteed as people would like)

    Troy - W

    @Michigan - L

    Purdue - W (will be very close)

    @Wisconsin - L

    @Northwestern - L

    Minnesota - W

    @Ohio State - L

    Illinois - W

    Michigan State - L

    @Iowa - L

    6-6 and it would be a great season.

    Seeing the fan base come back together.  What ever it takes to accomplish that.  Makes everyone of us proud of our team, staff, on and off the field.

    I could not agree with this more. As these last 15 years of Husker football have drug on, I am becoming more and more convinced that the fans are just as much of a problem. It is most definitely one of those chicken/egg dilemmas, but on-field performance/passionate fanbase are growing problems.

    It it just seems like for every 1 fan that wants success for the Huskers but is rationale about what it takes. There are 3 who either: can’t leave the past; use their high school football career to critique the current team; or are more committed to winning arguments about the team, than enjoying the team we do have.

  6. I’d run a strong side triple option play on the first offensive play of the game. Then run to the 50 yard line and scream at the fans “are you not entertained” until Moos had security escort me out.

    But Riley actually is the nice guy everyone says he is, so he’ll make it about his players. He’ll put them is a position to succeed and achieve some individual goals. He’ll make sure senior day goes off well. And he will redirect any question about this being the last football game of his career, to today’s game and the senior class.

  7. I think this whole "impact migraine" is yet another reason to fire this staff.  THIS IS A CONCUSSION!  The re-labeling is just a way to avoid the questions, when did it happen and why wasn't it caught by the training staff?

  8. I could just be a bit pessimistic right now, but I see this as a 5 year fix at minimum.  EVERYTHING is broken at NU.  The leadership from the athletic department (hopefully Moos is up to the task), the weight training/conditioning, the fractured fan base, and recruiting all need correcting.  This is before you even get to things like schematic changes, team culture, and mental toughness.

    I am not pulling for Frost because I firmly believe he the savior people make him out to be. I am pulling for him because I think he will get the time to fix the litany of problems this program faces. This program did not fade over night; it has been a 15 year decline.  It is going to take a while to get back to where we want to be. We Nebraskan like to call ourselves the "greatest fans in college football," and I think we are going to have a rough next couple of years where we will have an opportunity to prove it.

  9. No no no! Too old, doesn’t recruit top level, and is just more of the same that we’ve been dealing with. Yes, he was good at NDSU...but that is I-AA!!! It is NOT the same level of football no matter how much people argue. Look at his results at Wyoming and you will see the coach we would get. No thank you.

  10. On game day I will talk myself into a way that NU can win each of these games.  Yes, even Penn State...the liquor can make me believe just about anything! But as of today, I would say:

    Purdue W

    Northwestern W

    Minnesota L (this will be the game that completely breaks what is left of team/fan/administration morale)

    Penn. St L

    Iowa L

    That said, what I would love to see is this. Big Red going 5-0 and Frost making a public statement that his dream job is Nebraska and is willing to wait for Riley to finish what he started.

    I see what you're saying, but disagree in part. We were happy at the end of the '09 season. We gave texas all they could handle in the conference championship game and that maybe would've been a win if played a decade before instant replay. Then we beat up Arizona in the bowl game. "Nebraska's back and we're here to stay." We all know what happened since, but that was a pretty good time, and the feeling was Husker football was becoming dominant once again.

    Contrast that with what's happening now, and I think it's understandable that fans aren't okay with things.

    Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the fan base should be happy with the product on the field right now.  I just don't think that this fan base will be united anytime soon.  Yes people were excited in `09, but I remember the "did it with Callahan recruits" comments too.

    Why do you say this? If Golden Boy comes home, I'd say at least 90% of the fans will recognize that we have someone here that at least knows what it's like to bring championships to Lincoln. Most of us recognize that Frost at Nebraska is a match made in football heaven. (Personally, I like Frost, but he's not the ONLY guy I want. There are several others that could turn this thing around.)

    I wish there were more fans like you!!! The fact that you would consider someone else highlights this fact.  I have just watched this play out now since I became a fan in the early 90's  Back then it was "throw the *%^& ball," now it is "run the *%^& ball."  I just don't believe this fan base will ever be happy.

  13. It doesn't matter who we hire.  The fans are the problem.  The self-proclaimed greatest fans, are also self-proclaimed experts who only have rudimentary knowledge about football.  Running the veer on your 8 man team 4 decades ago, or building a dynasty through an EA sports simulation doesn't make you an expert on the game.  If its Frost, half the fan base will complain and we won't get any were.  If it's not Frost, half the fan base will implode and we won't get any were.
