Great strides? Since when is playing terrible through 3 quarters and finally deciding to play in the 4th quarter making great strides?

This is kind of an unfair statement. Sometimes they played badly for all four quarters.

Relax people! We will find out how we Riley is going to do soon. If he does great awesome! If not, we will hire a new coach! Enjoy the ride!

  2. FCS is garbage. I'm sorry. I've been to many games up here in Fargo. Yes, NDSU is a quality football team, but the overall level of competition is not good. Every year there are a handful of very good FCS teams. These are the ones trumpeted by the "we're division 1, not 1-AA" crowd. But in terms of overall quality, it is NOT the same.

  3. I'm sorry but of course Bo is doing well at the FCS level. IT'S THE FCS LEVEL!!! We justifyably ran Bohl out of town in 2002 and he created a dynasty in Fargo. We justifyably ran Bo out of town and he is having success at Youngstown. Yes, there are some good 1-AA teams. The the VAST majority are hot steaming dumpster fires that would lose to Nebraska high school teams. There is no depth in at this level, so getting to the playoffs is not a big deal. FCS is a joke. Don't make it more than it is. It is JV football.

  4. TBH we already have some cupcake games built-in to our schedule. Don't talk about last year or how we lost to them either, they are cupcakes flat-out. Illinois and Purdue.

I will not get into a topicality debate with you. :)

I agree that more big games would be fun for the fans, but I do not think that one marquee matchup philosophy is bad. The SQ is just fine, and is generally accepted across P5 conferences.

With how far out you have to schedule...

    1. You have no idea how the B1G will schedule us. Two marquees with a Wisconsin-esque schedule essentially eliminates you from the playoff conversation before it begins.
    2. You have no idea how good teams will be. S. Alabama and Southern Miss from last year, not needle pushers. This year, they have already upset SEC teams.
  5. Here is my temp check.

    • I want them to win every game, and I get bummed out when they lose.
    • I will be happy to follow the team on boards like this when they win, and will avoid this board like the plague for a couple days when they lose.
    • Every spring and summer I talk myself into the idea that "this could be the year." Most times, especially recently, I am wrong.
    • With Riley we will win one we didn't think we could...and probably will lose one we didn't think we would.
    • I don't understand why some fans try to prove that they are smarter/better fans by predicting doom and gloom. 7-5???? Come on man! You are a fan! You should want/believe that your team will win every game.
    • Living in Fargo I will get VERY angry if Iowa doesn't crush NDSU. Please baby Jesus don't make me listen to Bison fans!

Nebraska was a big draw because we're a national brand, bringing eyes to TVs across the country (moreso when we're good, obviously). Oklahoma is also a national brand, bringing eyes to TVs beyond the borders of their state.

Yes, that they do. And they used to have one of the greatest rivalries, if not THE greatest, in college football. That's what drove me to ask my original question. That and the last-second Hail Mary win against Northwestern in 2013How exciting would it be to watch Nebraska defeat Oklahoma on a last-second Hail Mary?

Sure. It would've been cool...but I'm not sure what you want here. How cool would it have been if the Hail Mary happened against OU while playing in the old Orange Bowl in half gravity because we relocated it to the moon?

  7. I'm not sure that this means an end to the 11:00 am games like people hope. From what I have read, this seems like a continuation of our current package...just with a bump in payout. ESPN can/will still negotiate for the right to broadcast the 3rd or 4th best game that week. Which will on occasion be our beloved Huskers.

"First, though, lets break down the numbers. If Ourands reporting is accurate, the Big Ten will sell half of its rights package to Fox for up to $250 million per year which would divide out to a cool $17.86 million per school. And thats with the other half still up for bid to ESPN, CBS, NBC or whomever."

  8. No one wants to lose, and the "determined to be .500" stuff is discussed in enough posts.

Out of the practice I was impressed with:

    1) Armstrong

    2) Barry

    3) God I hope offensive line?!?!

Defense line seemed to get man handled. Even the 1st team d-line didn't get the push or penetration I would have liked to see. That said, could be the result of good o-line play. Just have to wait until the fall!

  9. What if Osborne and Husker players from the "National Championship 90s" thought Alabama represented a healthy approach to designing a dynasty? Oh wait! They do!!! Get good players and punch the other team in the mouth until they quit.

Losses hurt, we all want to win every game...every year, some people just want to argue.

NCAA Closes Imaginary Set of Flood Gates with Camp Ban While Opening A Real One

The NCAA: Protector of Student-Athletes Everywhere. At least thats the tagline they want you to swallow hook, line and sinker while passing a ban on college football satellite camps.

For those of you just tuning in, Big Ten schools such as Michigan and Nebraska were setting up shop in SEC and ACC country. This didnt sit well with either conference and it didnt help that Jim Harbaugh used every streamer and firework to make sure the Maize and Blues camps were an opportunity athletes couldnt afford to pass up.

The Pac-12, Big 12, Sun Belt and Mountain West conferences added their votes to the aforementioned duo, hammering the final nail in the coffin by a 10-5 vote.

ESPNs Brett McMurphy reported that the NCAAs support of the ban was because of the colleges inability to control their coaches on the recruiting trails. Basically, it would turn summer recruiting into the wild, wild West by allowing all of these staffs to basically go all over the country, specifically into the south to set up these camps.

Lets face it, when the SEC shakes its head in disapproval, the people at the head of the table take notice and when it can get a Power Five conference like the ACC to back it up, two heavyweights cant be ignored.

Mike Greenberg's rant today on ESPN's Mike & Mike in the morning was epic. They blatantly called out the SEC and NCAA for hipocracy and it was amazing. Go get 'em Mikes!!!!

  11. Given how the NCAA is ruining the game experience I may not even be watching.

Do us all a favor and make good on your promise. I can play the good old days were better too. You wanna guess what Devaney would have said about your post? Probably something with quite a few obscenities and a ticket to Kansas. And before you criticize him look at YOUR hand, how many MNC rings?
