I think I heard it was pretty much just over-working the players. Basically soreness that one cannot imagine. I heard an athletic trainer on the radio talk about the science behind it all, but it was so long ago I don't remember the specifics. I do remember that one potential side effect was that the kidneys completely screw up and urine turns black.
