  1. Objection. Speculation Isn't this all?
  2. You mean someone who isn't hyped to death can turn out to be the better than someone who is?!
  3. Thanks Cy. Good article. The top 5 are predictable...the rest...not so much.
  4. Meh. I don't think we are going to agree on this one. (point taken on highlight videos not being particularly useful...hopefully people remember that when watching C. Green spring highlight tapes). I just think that what he showed as a true freshman playing in the toughest division in college football shows that he is more than just "serviceable." But I guess arguments like this are what the off season is all about. We'll have to re-visit this after next season and see how our predictions turned out.
  5. A lot of people said the same of Harrison Beck. Well.......they did. Texas 4/5A football is top quality and so are the players, especially at Green's school, that made the semis and finals in back to back years. That doesn't mean that it will translate to success at the college level. (much like success at the college level doesn't always translate to success at the pro level)

  7. You, sir have hit the nail directly on the head. Not a great passer beyond a first look and a dump off. We'll see as/if he develops. Wait...what?! As a true freshmen he completed 60% of his passes and had a 5 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio. (playing in the big 12 south no less!). If he played for Nebraska he would be starting, and we'd be thrilled to have him. Pretty easy to complete 60% of your passes when the majority of the catches were made by TE and RB. Not saying he wouldn't start here, just saying he isn't better than Robinson. That is ridiculous. A lot of Griffin's passes were to backs/TE's. And I wouldn't be thrilled to have him, cause we've already got a man in Cody Green So....do passes to tight ends and backs not count or what? I'm not sure what you are getting at. A completion, is a completion, is a completion. If you're saying that he doesn't have the arm strength to make the down field throws, I'd have to remind you that this is COLLEGE football, not professional. Josh Freeman has all the arm strength in the world but I'd take Joe Ganz over him any day in college. Same deal with Griffin. The kid is an ATHLETE, and that touchdown to interception ratio shows that he doesn't make many dumb mistakes. I'm already tired of hearing about Cody Green. You'd think we'd learn our lesson with the likes of Harrison Beck, Curt Dukes, etc. etc. How about we wait to crown him until after he has completed a pass in a Husker game? ok, since i made the original quote ill explain it for ya! for the untrained eye he is a ok/good qb, but for someone that knows how a qb should operate (which i am sure you do) he is not on par with most of the qbs in the conference and i do not think he would start over zac lee or would he have started over joe ganz. the reason that someone said that it would be easy to throw to your running back and TE say that because those two are generally your safety valve throws, in other words if that is who he is throwing to all of the time then he is not checking all of his options and he is just taking the easy throw. if i knew that i was only going to have to lock onto my RB to TE every snap and let them do the work then i think i could complete 59.9% of my passes too! add to all of that that his left tackle is a top 5 pick in the coming NFL draft and its my opinion that he should have almost looked better if he is so good. to explain it for some people, the left tackle is very important in any offense if your qb is right handed (which griffin is) because he blocks on the side of the line that the qb cannot see making sure that the qb has the time to throw the ball. in closing, he may be a good qb this year or next but right now he is a track star (believe he made it to the junior olympics or something?) that is trying to play qb.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4EXHy6WLLQ Notice all of the 15 yard out routes that he NAILS. Track star? This is a quarterback. And a damn good one considering his age and his surrounding talent. (4:54 doesn't look like a track star.)
  8. Good power. Hopefully the accuracy matches.
  9. Yikes. I'll admit it's a bold statement, but with that being said, you won't find anyone with a stronger work ethic and smarts on the field. He just flat out makes defenders look stupid. I guess I'm just tired of the hype. Everyone wants to find the next super recruit to hang their hat on... and the majority don't ever make a meaningful contribution. Burkhead, if he EVER is our best player in the next four years, will probably not be at the top until he is an upperclassman.

  12. Robinson is the 3rd best in the conference. IMO Who is being hard on him? I think the worst anyone had him is 5th....I had him at 3rd as well. As someone said, this is all out the window when the season starts anyways. For now it's all just speculation.
  13. My money is on Brett Maher, a redshirt Freshman out of Kearney. Am I going crazy or did the rivals roster list Henry as our punter? I'll have to check on that... You're probably right. There was a rumor floating around that Henery was going to do double duty. I hope it doesn't affect his PK ability.
  14. Bradford threw for more yards, more TDs and more total TDs and he won the Heisman, while leading nation in PE and in average per attempt and completion. Average per completion is the best measure of a QB, not a high completion percentage based on dinks and dunks. Sam completed a very high 68% of his passes. He is CLEARLY QB number 1, and he has 2 Big 12 titles, meaning championships, while McCoy has NOTHING! Ignorant folks bring up Colt's running, but most of his rushing yards came vs non-conference teams like RICE! He was shut down by most Big 12 teams and only ran well vs Kansas and AtM late in season. He rarely runs vs good defenses! By the way, Sam also played less 4th quarter minutes than Colt by a MILE! Colt McCoy + '08 Oklahoma OL > Sam Bradford. You sure seem like an angry poster. "Ignorant" indeed.
  15. They're still waiting for O'Hanlon to finish his 40. I mean the coaching staff didn't even use a stopwatch but a sun dial rather to clock this guy's 40 time. He is exactly what has been wrong with this D for the past 4 or 5 years. You can't put someone back there that runs a 40 in the 5's and expect him to cover a 4.3 or 4.4 guy. See O'Hanlon covering CJ Spiller in the last 2 minutes of the Gator Bowl. Spiller is supposedly a 4.3 guy...O'Hanlon covered him perfectly. I don't remember who said it...but half of speed in football is coaching. (ie being/going where you are supposed to be)
  16. Uh...0? I WIN! I WIN! I WIN! Point Cy. I see we are both fluent in the language of sarcasm.
  17. Ditchweed eh? Care to wager on how many yards Witt has as a Cornhusker this year?
  18. I think you're a little hard on CU. Both Hawkins and Hansen have more experience at the D1 level for CU than #5 down. If it weren't for all their OL being hurt last season, I'm sure their numbers would have been much better throughout the season. Maybe so. I just haven't seen anything from them that I've been particularly impressed with. Like an earlier poster said, after the top 4 they are fairly interchangeable. And unfortunately, OL play is a HUGE factor in how we evaluate QB performance. (for example I doubt Bradford is as highly rated without such incredible OL play). So I guess a more fair ranking would be "Ranking Potential QB Performance." That would better account for the team surrounding them.
  19. Where do you rank the QBs? I think mine looks something like this... 1. Texas (McCoy) 1a. Oklahoma (Bradford) 2. OSU (Robinson) 3. Kansas (Reesing) 4. Baylor (Griffin) 5. TT (Potts) - Leach always gets 4,500 yards out of his QB. 6. Texas A&M (Johnson...I think) - This guy is improving... 7. Missouri (Gabbert) - haven't seen much of him yet, but more game experience than Lee. 8. Nebraska (Lee...presumably) 9. Colorado (Hawkins/Hansen) 10. Iowa State (Arnaud) 11. KSU (Coffman...I think) I wouldn't be surprised to see Griffin or Reesing move up a bit. Hopefully Lee will as well!
  20. Here's kinda my rough break down. Offense Line: Pretty much set minus the right guard position, which has D.J. Jones as the front runner but Henry could be making a run. Don't forget about Christensen as well. Backs: Helu and Q are the 1 and 2 punch. Quarterback position is up for grabs of course, but from hearing the coaches (and following my own personal wants) I think Lee will eventually be named starter but it is still way too early to tell. WR's: Very open position but we pretty much know most of the guys would make an impact this year in Paul and Bell. Hopefully Mendoza will be able to wow/impress some people over there. Tight Ends: McNeil and Young are the most popular returning starters, but they both proved last season that their run blocking game wasn't that good. If somebody like a Redshirt Freshman Ben Cotton can step up I can see quite a few rotations at that position Defense Line: Suh is (all "competition" talk aside) the returner at DT and will probably have Crick next to him at the other DT spot, but Steinkuhler and Moore could make a run at some playing time given they have both have impressed coaches. Barry Turner will probably get his DE spot back if he overcome his last few mental hurdles and get back to his playing ability, but other than that I'm not sure about who the backups would be and who the other starter would be. The only other name that pops in my head right now is Josh Williams but I know i'm forgetting some. DBacks: Extremely open for right now. Asante, O'Hanlon, and Thenarse are names that pop out to me, but my knowledge is a little weak as far as who could be playing back there Corners: Knowledge on this spot is low too, other than the fact that Hagg has switched over there and after his big game against Clemson I'm sure he has been impressing a lot of coaches. Linebackers: Dillard needs to get back on good terms with the coaches and prove he can play. Kolton Koehler and Matthew May are in good position to get starting time, but there are also many young guys like Redshirt Freshman Will Compton who have been impressing the coaches a lot and could get quite a few reps this fall. Excellent post sir. Not much I can disagree with!
  21. True. But there were also a lot of farmers in the south. The north was more industrialized. Just throwing that fact out there. Absolutely. The reason why there were fewer slaves in the North was largely because it was not as economically practical as it was in the South. Unfortunately, the North did not really have the moral high ground because it's stance against slavery was more economical than moral.
  22. I looked up a few numbers. As of 1860: Confederate states - over 3.5 million slaves (3,521,110) Northern States (and border states) - under .5 million slaves. (429,403) Slavery was NOT as common in the North as in the South.
  23. Slavery was only a fraction of the decision to secede. State's rights to govern themselves was the real issue. Enforcement of any unpopular law would have netted the same result. Plus it was not only Southern states who owned slaves, it was just as common in Northern states I firmly beleive that if the Union had been forced into accepting slavery, the ramifications would have been equally despised. That's simply not true. Only the border states in the Union permitted slavery. The majority of states in the North prohibited slavery. What primary right were the Confederate states seeking? Don't say the right to secede and the right to govern themselves . . . I realize that. WHY did they want to secede and govern themselves? The answer is that the Southern economy was largely dependent on slave labor, and without that labor, their economy would collapse. Therefore, yes, the decision to secede was for states rights and economic concerns . . . but the root issue remained that of slavery. Is there something obvious that I am missing?
