  1. i was really thinking Okafor would be almost ready, but if Burkhead is the real deal, bring him on..........

Collins Okafor has the Jay Sims/Clinton Childs vibe...always the #3 guy but still capable if called upon.

i hope you are right Jen.

That makes two of us... :)

  2. #4 - Charlie Weis does not run a West Coast offense. I have mixed feelings on the man and won't defend him, but he is no reason why ND is hated. ND is hated under any coach.

That said, best of luck to the Huskers. :)

I still hate Notre Shame...but you're okay...notwithstanding being an Irish fan.

  3. I wish someone would speculate what kind of drugs he might have failed 5 tests for...allegedly.

I heard it was fiddle-faddles... :laughpound

Fiddle-faddle is addictive. I heard they call it the gateway snack.

If that's true I sincerely hope he doesn't move on to Ho-Ho's or, Heaven forbid, Cupcakes.

  4. The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

Oh for God's sakes it is one player. That only rushed for 505 yards.

WE have the same chance as we had this morning.

One second string back does not make or break the season.

<----- Kisses skersfan and hopes he's up to date on his shots....

  5. You have a lot of pent up anger and you are willing to throw anyone under the bus that does not subscribe to your own beliefs. I would be hesitant to sit with you during a game and the game not go to your satisfaction, I think we should just agree to disagree on how we view the world and move on. Good luck this season, CU in November.......

    Fair post :snacks:

What's "fair" about it? He's making a bunch of vague and unsubstatiated claims.

Now if I'm truly guilty of what he's accusing me of then it should be really easy to find the appropriate supporting documentation from this site wouldn't it?

    Bottom line, he should either:

    1) prove what he's insinuating, in which case I'll apologize, admit I was wrong and try to do better,

    or

    2) admit he was exaggerating in an effort to derail this thread.

  6. You have a lot of pent up anger and you are willing to throw anyone under the bus that does not subscribe to your own beliefs.

I do? Are you my psychiatrist? :dumdum

Seriously though, I do not "throw anyone under the bus" who disagrees with me. I expect people to fully articulate their point of view and if they do and I still disagree then that's my perogative.

Find one post where I have demanded people fall into lock-step with me.

So again I ask where is the threatening, hateful vemon I'm supposedly spewing which so utterly terrifies you?

Again, if I've posted something that's so over the line please share it with me right here. If it's truly over the line then I'll apologize.

But I guess it's just easier to make vague unsubstantiated claims and run away.

  7. i was really thinking Okafor would be almost ready, but if Burkhead is the real deal, bring him on..........

Collins Okafor has the Jay Sims/Clinton Childs vibe...always the #3 guy but still capable if called upon.

  8. McGee, mother of Marquise Hill, a highly recruited receiver/defensive back from St. Louis Trinity, embraced Arkansas' philosophy of wanting athletes to graduate with a master's degree, not a bachelor's degree, during five years at the school.

Petrino has a "plan" for his players to attain a master's degree in five years? Bullsh**!

To get a master's degree in five years means you would have to take at least 18 credit hours every semester and summer school every year on top of that. There is no way the average student, let alone a football player, could maintain that type of pace academically.

P.S. I know it can be done...but out of 100 students that would attempt this...maybe five would make it.

  9. Bo should be #1 because at least he can win his bowl games.

    :box

So you agree Mangino got jobed, since he won his last 3 Bowl games (half of the Bowl wins in KU istory, sadly) and one was a BCS and all, of course Bo has 1 bowl win and all.

    Bo has two bowl wins...

    1. The Alamo Bowl against Michigan St.

    2. The Gator Bowl against Clemson.

I guess that is technically true. I am not sure how I feel about him getting ot jump in and interim one, but I guess he did it. Had he lost, I would not have held it against him either, those are weird situations. Regardless, still nowhere near what Mangino has done...

    1. It doesn't matter how you "feel" about it. Bo was the interim coach during the bowl game preparation against Michigan St and he gets credit for the win. If Nebraska had lost he'd be credited with the loss on his "record."

    2. Mark Mangino has done quite a remarkable job at Kansas no doubt about it.

    But in my...

:laughpound very knowledgable and never wrong about anything ever opinion, :laughpound

...Bo is by far the better coach. Mangino is offense and Bo is defense and when a game is on the line I'll take the team with the stronger defense.

    3. Bo will prove he's one of the best Big 12 coaches this season.

  10. i doubt we will find out anytime soon what happened to him, I just found out what happened to Cody Glenn yesterday

Thread derail alert! Thread derail alert! Thread derail alert!

  11. To Quentin Castille: Thank you for the time you spent at Nebraska, your performance in the Gator Bowl helped the team to win and good luck in the future.

The good thing is he can transfer to another D-1A school, sit out a year as a redshirt and still have two years of elgibility remaining.

Or he could transfer to a D-1AA school and play right away.

  12. I'll steer clear of Lou's comments, lol.

Alabama went 7-6 in 2007, including a home loss to UL-Monroe and a narrow Independence Bowl win going into 2008. Young teams do improve and ND has been one of the youngest teams in the country the past two seasons (ND was starting 7 true freshman in 2007, 4 in 2008). ND had only 8 players from the 2004 recruiting class remain by 2007, and only a couple were decent. The 2005 class wasn't much better. It was as close to the death penalty as you can get. And those have now been fully replaced with excellent classes in 2007 and 2008 who have experience.

I have no issue with anyone or any pollster leaving ND outside the top 25, but to be so up in arms over a #23 ranking? I just don't see why. And ND isn't always ranked. This is the first time ND has been ranked in any poll, preseason or otherwise, since the 2006 season. Also, ND has started out unranked in 6 of the last 9 preseason polls.

Sorry, but it seems like everyone is going insane over a #23 rating. As if ND has spent lots of time ranked highly in the last couple of years. But even so, I hope the Huskers have a great season, despite this ND hating. :cheers

    Notre Dame is hated because:

    1. The fact is that the irish play a psuedo Big 10+1 schedule and all three service academies. The weakness of their schedule every year is a joke. And yet, even with a patsy schedule they still struggle to get 7 wins. And, to top it all off they have a special clause which guarantees them a BCS bowl game with 9 wins.

    2. No team lives off it's past moreso than the domers. Oh and congrats on beating a mediocre Hawaii squad in the meaningless Toilet Bowl last season.

    3. They are on television every single week. I'm sorry but watching a 2-3 Notre Dame @ 1-3 Purdue is the ultimate yawn fest.

At home they're on NBC and when they're on the road the game is picked up by espn/abc.

    4. Charlie Weiss is typical of a offensive NFL coach who comes to the college ranks as a head coach: He delusionally thinks that an NFL style west coast offense is invincible despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

  13. Notre Dame will always be over-rated...that's just the way it is... :dunno

The one part of this poll that has me scratching my head is that Mississippi is in the top 10.

    :wtf

They went 9-4 last year and lost to: Wake Forest, Vanderbilt and South Carolina. Given how good Alabama was losing to them is understandable.

Oh wait...they beat Jesus Tebow and the Florida Gaytors... :bang

How a team can go from 9-4 one season to the top 10 next season, based on one victory, is puzzling to be sure.

  14. Bo should be #1 because at least he can win his bowl games.

    :box

    1. The Alamo Bowl against Michigan St.

  15. 11. Dan Hawkins, Colorado—the overly excited jock

    The Colorado coach loves excellence.

    “If you’re not a high-standard guy, you’re a low-standard guy,” Hawkins said.

When he said those words, it reminded me of Ricky Bobby’s famous motto: “If you’re not first, you’re last.” And then I thought of his father’s take on it: “That doesn’t make any sense at all. You can be second, third, fourth. Hell, you can even be fifth.”

Hawkins might want to heed Mr. Bobby’s advice because the Buffaloes aren’t finishing in first place this season. Still, Hawkins remains a hopeless optimist — albeit an overly excited and somewhat childish one. Hawkins’ high-energy tactics were perfect when he was trying to resurrect Boise State out of nothing a few years ago, but it’s the Big 12. This ain’t intramurals, brotha.

That attached picture is classic! :laughpound

  16. maybe we need to start asking kids that end up at other schools why we didn't make the grade? no different than asking a client why he bought from another vendor...you can't be more successful if you don't know what is working for your competitors..

Or maybe, and I'm simply throwing this out there, that:

    1. The coaches found something out, cooled on their recruitment and/or told the kid to look elsewhere.

    2. Maybe the kid grew up dreaming about playing for school X and when school X offers he jumps on it.

I guess what I'm saying is...let's not always assume that the fault is on our end.

  17. if we are pitching that crap, we are missing recruits. you think other teams are telling guys to take all their visits? hell no, they are asking them to comit, now!

Bo and company are probably pushing recruits to commit just as hard as any other school.

I think Danimal was theoretically talking to recruits: Take all your visits...then decide.

  18. If none GBR fan really care of TAH, no long thread would be on this best GBR web to tell how none care about TAH, plusa also a turd fan. If no care then no thread needed is all I can say. Plus also why go get word"s from a nother Tigerplace and bring to best GBR and say, This turd can make me mad and you can read so we all can get mad? Seem like ever one is doing same to me.

Getting a puffed up chest can just make a shirt tight and can be a button fly of.

I"m glad to be long time TAH top fan and say that on this best GBR web if okay.

Here is how Green, of Scouts Inc., sees it: "We all go to the combine every year to look at receivers who are 5-11 and who run a 4.7 40. Why not this kid? I could see it."

I have never seen a WR at the combine run a 4.7...maybe I don't watch enough. :dunno

Anquan Boldin did. How's that working out for him?

Pretty well. Although maybe having Larry Fitzgerald on the other side of the field has something to do with his success?

    :dunno

  20. I don't know why it's so hard for people to accept that to be competitive every year you need to have very good recruiting every year. By very good I mean top 15 in the final rankings. We had top 15 classes almost every year when we were winning NC's and we combined that with excellent work ethic, coaching and leadership. Yes Va Tech is a good program but when's the last time they were in a NC? 99'? Hell we were in one more recently than they have. I wouldn't say I'm a star gazer, but I absolutely think that rankings overall matter. If we consistently have classes ranked 30th or lower we will not compete for NC's anytime soon.

Now don't take this personally, but I think you are wrong and here's why:

    1) recruiting is an inexact science to say the least,

    2) most recruiting "experts" say the difference between the #1 and the #10 class perception,

(And if you can't tell the difference between 1st and 10th just how reliable are the rankings overall?)

    3) if you think Tom Osborne's recruiting classes were consistently in the top 15 then you are revising history-in a good way,

(Tom Osborne's classes were typically rated 20th or lower. Now there were years, 1986 [Maybe it was '87] and 1996 where the Huskers had the #1, or at least top 5, rated class and there were other years where Nebraska was in the top 15. But overall, TO's classes were ranked 20th or lower.)

Let's say there are two RB's:

    * One is from Omaha, 6'0" 195 lbs and runs a verified 4.49 40 and is rated 3 :star 's.

    * One is from Florida, 6'0" 203 lbs and runs a verified 4.49 40 and is rated 5 :star 's.

Let's assume that all other attributes: Bench, squat, 10 yard dash, shuttle, cone, vertical, etc are the same. Furthermore, let's also assume the differences between them regarding speed, vision, agility, blocking, catching, etc are negligible.

Of the two RB's, which one is better? Is the five star from Florida really better than the three star from Omaha just because some recruiting "expert" says so?

Let's take an actual case study:

Marlon Lucky was 5 :star 's coming out of high school.

Roy Helu was 3 :star 's coming out of high school.

Of the two, which, in your opinion, is the better running back?

(Please note I'm not Lucky bashing here because I love the kid and thought he gave everything he possibly could.)
