  1. The term I-back was never dropped, even though the FB took on a lesser role under BC. I think that staff thought that if they said the RBs were I-backs and then kept Turner around, people would think that tradition was being honored. How lame is that?

  2. Fear is not always rational, and I realize this.

Still, there are fears which I can not totally quiet.

It's hearing about problems across the offensive line and wondering if we can run well and protect the passer.

It's the fear of "under the lights" confusion between the receivers and Lee leading to picks. And, I know that most people just love the heck out of Watson, but it's the fear that he will try to do too much with Lee on Saturday.

Please tell me I am a fool and have nothing to worry about. I feel great about our defense, but I can't shake the question marks on offense.

Let's face it...a miracle loss ala App State would make our season into a nightmare.

  3. Throw all these numbers out. Michigan State and Troy look to be examples of close games, not blowouts, but, that aside, the Huskers should take care of FAU for the most part on Saturday. If this game goes into the fourth quarter with the lead at two scores or less, then the Huskers are getting off to a rough start.

  4. I don't care about who redshirts and who doesn't, but, at the same time, I would contend that most HS grads don't come in ready to play from a physical standpoint. A year of training and adjustment to football can work wonders for a lot of guys. For a very select few guys, taking a year off makes no sense.

  5. :thumbs Take time to enjoy this week. Football season goes by soooooo fast. Once we get going here it will seem like....WTF, February, where the hell did that come from? Lets get going and have a great season, but, most of all, lets savor every moment. NU football doesn't happen all the time, that's for sure.

  6. THis is the danger of having beat writers getting one on ones with the coaches every time you turn around during preseason camp. The coach's mood varies based on a number of factors. When the come into interviews hostile it catches reporters off guard. Bad questions and coach speak follow. Cut the number of interviews down, period. That's the solution. It won't happen, but that is the solution.

  7. All this boils down to an issue of trust. Fans have to trust that Pelini is fairly applying these team rules and that every player is made aware of all rules from the start. If recruits hear reasonable rules and believe they can trust Pelini, we won't ever have any issues and we will land talented players every year. If not, Bo will end up with a team that won't play for him. Like I said TRUST is the key word.

I am a Husker fan and a Bo fan, so, until otherwise revealed, I believe Bo can be trusted.

  8. Watching the Dallas Cowboys open their new stadium and was struck by this question. Can video go too far in a stadium?

We all like a little replay of the plays, no question, but when the whole stadium is awash in digital imagery, does it take away from the game atmosphere?

The Dallas screen blocked a punt, an event which everyone should have seen coming because of the screen's location.

When these screens began, there was one, or two in most stadiums. The Huskers installed two more and ribbon boards in the off season. We now have four screens and massive jumbo-tron and ribbon boards. You couldn't be at the game without being swallowed up by this stuff.

I am a big tunnel walk fan, and I know the new screens will enhance the tunnel walk, but have the Huskers gone too far. Granted, none of our screens can interfere with the game from a physical standpoint, but it just seems like a little much at times.

  9. Ok Jen,

    Ineffective defined.

Think Mike Grant. Mr. Grant was indecisive with the ball, did not display confidence and could not run the option. He didn't have any smooth parts to his game. It looked rough and was painful to watch. Oz eventually went to Tommie for some on the job training.

Lee would and should be charactorized by fans as ineffective for the following: fumbling the snap, missing open guys, throwing into tight coverage consistenly and holding on to the ball too long.

Turnovers, taking a lot of sacks and not putting the ball in the hands of open guys mean the QB is at fault.

Sam Keller was ineffective mainly due to his repeated tendency to hold the ball forever and check it down to the back.

We all hope this does not happen.

The question then becomes what do the coaches do? Do they suffer through the season or do they, like Oz back in the day, go to the freshman.

  10. There is no way the season starts with anyone under center but Lee. That’s a given.

Should the guy turn out to be ineffective, however, say through the first four games of the season, how much rope would the coaching staff give him? Would it be time to forget Lee and let Green learn on the job so to speak?

I know it seems like Lee has had a good camp, but nothing is certain until games are actually played. Let’s be honest in saying that if he was the clear cut leader among the Qbs all along, he would have gotten into the game against Clemson instead of Witt.

  11. I can remember when most of the games were on RADIO ONLY. For people that live in western Nebraska, the pay-per-view option is a vast improvement over no tv at all. Save for the people who live within close driving distance of Lincoln, going to the stadium isn't an option, so $30 to buy the game is reasonable.

There was a time when NU was televised against one out-of-conference team and maybe two conference schools. That was prior to the Big 12 days.

Imagine those days, three of 10 regular season games televised, plus one bowl game.

As it stands now, the Huskers will be televised for six games, not including the Big 12 title game if we can get there. It is hard for me to believe that Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Kansas won't be regular cable options. And there could very well be more pay-per-view options. People can buy pay-per-vew or go to bars so there is actually a chance for fans to see nearly every game NU plays.

  12. That is a common thought outside the program. The thinking is that we should have never been good anyway...or that we were never really good anyway, which is crazed......and, as such, we will never be able to re-attain that kind of glory ever again. Back to that star-based recruit talk, but there are still people who believe those at the top of the rivals recruit board are the best in the nation. We simply aren't up there enough for them to have that opinion of us.
