  1. We have a ways to go. We have been clearly out-athleted for a while now. Remember back to the Alamo when we played Michigan....they had better athletes and we won, but it was a really tough win. Clemson last year seemed to have better athletes and we hung on and eeked it out. Now the reality, on a national scale, Clemson of last year and Michigan of a few years ago were not players for the title. Anything is possible, but we would have to beat teams that are better than us athlete vs. athlete. That's tough to do when you would have to do it four or five times in one year.

  2. Proof is found in results.... Pelini is on his way as a head coach. Coach Callahan came to NU and a losing season followed. Bo Pelini came and scored nine wins. When Pelini came here the first time the defense improved....he left, went to other programs and continued to excell as a coordinator. He carried that success on as a head coach. This last year proved that he could put together a staff and get a program turned around. Just remember how many question marks there were on the 2008 team. Bo is a good coach, but he is just as good as a leader. More solid seasons should follow. As a Husker fan, I could not be more pleased.

  3. Kansas State became the first NCAA team to lose 500 games in 1988. Then came Snyder....who scored 11 bowl wins and 136 games, as many as his predecessors had won from 1935 to 1988. The Wildcats won the Big 12 one time and played in a BCS bowl twice. How do those accomplishments rectify 53 years of futile play? Looking at those numbers, one would think, that any K-State fan would temper his rhetoric toward Nebraska.

Just a refresher about what NU has been up to....

Nebraska has claimed 46 conference championships and part or all of five national championships: 1970, 1971, 1994, 1995, and 1997. This marked the first time since Notre Dame in 1946-49 when a team won three national championships in four seasons. Nebraska posted a 60-3-0 record between the 1993-97 seasons. ESPN.com has named the 1971 Nebraska Cornhusker team the greatest team of all time.

    NU's all time mark, 817–337–40 (.707)

    KSU's all time mark, 453–598–41 (.434)

What was that again K-State fan...I can't hear you, I guess I must have a couple of those national championship rings stuck in my ears again.

  4. If college football ended today, and not another game was played, Nebraska would be remembered for its 800 plus wins.....and its five national titles. What would K-State be known for? They would be known as one of the worst programs ever in history. I, as an NU fan, can live with our rep. Can K-State fan live with his?

  5. I am pulling for Spano, I really am, but I would feel better if the QB who starts is the QB who wins the job, not the QB we got to put in because so-and-so is hurt. I feel we will miss Witt this year, not because he is a potential Heisman winner, but because, with the right attitude, he would have added to the competitive nature of the position.

  6. If Zac Lee is injured, the QB situation could get dicey in a heartbeat. Witt is gone. Spano has no game experience at all and only one year in the system. Cody Green had a small injury, and, as Bo has pointed out, is really still a high schooler at this point. Taylor Martinez won't get here until August and would definitely be hard for him to pick up the system that fast. Who is left? The move of LaTravis to the QB spot could end up being one of those necessity is the mother of invention kind of deals. :hmmph

  7. Since everyone seems to be on the Bo bandwagon, I thought I would throw in just a touch of critism. First, Bo wasn't competitive with every team on the schedule. We got pounded by Oklahoma and Missouri and even Bo will admit he made a really, really bad call with the fake FG against Colorado. Secondly, the economy sucks right now. I know that Bo wasn't getting paid a lot by any standard, but couldn't this wait until, well, the economy clears up in 2010 (We hope). Lastly, what would it hurt to wait just one more season. If we are right about Bo, the contract would make as much sense next year as it does right now.

Now, go ahead and throw stones.

I like Bo and certainly want to see the Huskers succeed. Also, I trust Osborne to do the right thing and the man must have his reasons. Still, from the outside looking in, the concerns above seem to have at least a little bit of weight.

  8. UNO has a lot to play for in a game like this. NU doesn't and a lot of players lose reps, so coaches are unable to successfully evaluate the full roster. The only way it would work if it was a controlled scrimmage format just like the spring game. The competitive element would be removed in this case, and, if that were to happen, what would be the point of NU vs. UNO anyway?

  9. With a new quarterback, and WRs getting their first work as the main targets, NU will need to need to have a strong running game, a solid defense and difference making special teams play. Sounds like we have all that. This team might just have some big bowl game potential. :clap

  10. All the check with me system does is allow an offensive coaching staff to comunicate a weakness in the defense to the quarterback so that he can put the ball in the hands of the player who can do the most damage. The defensive coaches will be looking to anticipate what the weaknesses might be before the start of the play and shore those up. So its not going to be a situation where the offense sends in a check and the defense reacts to it. Call it sparing, but hardly revolutionary thinking. :box Reality is that football still comes down to the same few objectives. Block, tackle.

  11. Frank was arrested by an officer named Osborne. No need to look for irony. Frank's DUI was a sobering hit for a fan like me, but I also feel for the man. It had been about a year since he was run out of Lincoln, unfairly in my opinion. Frank is allowed to be a human and I am still a huge fan of his. I look forward to the day when he can get a standing ovation from the NU faithful at a Husker homegame.

  12. This worries me a little. I was hoping for Kody Spano or Zac Lee to take the reigns. Lee sounded like a good bet, but Bo gave no vote of confidence to Lee. I know he is just trying to get the most out of all his players, but, at the same time, I worry. LaTravis Washington makes me think of Bernard Jackson from Colorado. :wtf
