  1. I can't tell you how happy I was to see them go through with the plan to line up without a punter and then not snap the ball. I've been championing the idea on social media for quite some time and got a very strong reaction when I tweeted it.... certainly nothing I've ever posted on social media before or since has come close.

I think it turned out pretty well. It's even better when you watch it without TV commentary and how the crowd slowly works out what is happening..... just spine-tingling stuff...

Thank you for posting, the things you don't see on TV, spine tingling indeed to listen to the applause build and build when fans figured out what was going on and nothing but pure class from the Fresno St. players for applauding as well.

  2. Nice.

Do they always set up the times to this many games so far in advance? And when can we expect a time slot for the Oregon game?

Really liking These late starts for a couple home games. should help us be able to get recruits to Lincoln on Satudays

The Big 10 always announces their night games in advance, ESPN/ABC night games were announced a couple of weeks ago. I'm guessing the Oregon game will be a reverse mirror 2:30 telecast.

  3. As someone who follows the business of sports media, I'm not at all surprised that Fox has acquired a portion of the lucrative B1G tv contract and wouldn't surprise me if Fox takes it all. Unless Fox can improve distribution of Fox Sports 2, I don't see B1G games on that network. That leaves Fox Sports 1 and the Fox broadcast network with a wildcard of the regional Fox sports networks (Fox Sports Midwest, etc.).

The only issue there is that in some B1G states (IA, IL, PA, MD) the primary regional sports net is an NBC owned regional sports net (Comcast SportsNet Chicago as an example), perhaps that opens the door for NBC and its NBCSN and regional sports networks to outbid ESPN, I don't see it though especially with NBC having the rights to NASCAR in the fall. Fox does own the majority interest in the Yankees YES Network.

All of that said, even though ESPN is bleeding money, not having the B1G and their preference for 11am kicks would kill their 11am windows across all networks.

  4. If he's dumb enough to have his Facebook marked as public in that anyone and everyone can see what he posts, that's his problem. As a job seeker, my Facebook is on total lock down to non-friends, non-friends can't see what I post, my friends, or the family vacation pictures that I share.

  5. It will be different not having Nebraska games on KFAB considering the fact of how long those two entities have been involved with each other. In this Omaha World Herald report: http://www.omaha.com/huskers/huskers-switch-omaha-radio-affiliate-from-kfab-to-kxsp/article_07685be8-b141-11e4-bd4d-b3d2492e6d3d.html

KFAB had broadcast Cornhusker football for 71 years until 1996, when it lost the rights to Pinnacle, which moved the games to radio station KKAR in Omaha. KFAB announced on Nov. 24, 2000, that Cornhusker football would return to KFAB in August 2001.

Ultimately, (and no pun intended here) this is a signal to KFAB that they have to boost the reach of their overall radio signal, especially at night. There is no question that at the present time 590AM has a much wider reach during all times of the day than what KFAB has.

I think in the future Nebraska games will return to KFAB like they did in 2001, but the onus is on KFAB now to make that happen.

I'm guessing it came down to money, Journal outbid Cheap, I mean Clear Channel. 50,000 wats is the max power for an AM frequency and without getting to nerdy explaining it, but there is nothing that can be done about their signal at night.

  6. Wow! End of an era.

Not really, there was a time when the Huskers were on KKAR.

When it comes to football, with every game televised, this is not a big deal (other than an FM simulcast), but for the other sports, this is a great move. 590 will air ALL baseball games, including Friday games, and the reach of 590's signal is bigger than that of KFAB's. The only time I ever listen to a Husker football game is in the car and good luck getting KFAB in Des Moines after dark, 590's signal booms in day AND night.

  7. So that the B1G can get into a region of the country that could care less about college football (New York City), Nebraska goes from playing Michigan, Michigan St., & Penn St. every year and Ohio St. & Wisconsin every two years to playing Purdue, Illinois and Wisconsin on a yearly basis and in 2016, Indiana joins those three. YUCK. I gett that Nebraska is still the new kid on the B1G's block, but that's not a fair trade if you ask me.

  8. I think the game will be close and will be decided by turnovers. I am certain the Bruins will score more than 13 points.

The Bruins are a very young team. They played 15 true or redshirt freshman in the Nevada game. And there are a lot of sophomores who start. It is predominantly a freshman-sophomore team. The feeling in Westwood is that this team has the talent to make a National Championship push next year.

The strength of the team defensively is the linebacker corps. Plenty of speed. Everyone knows about Barr but Kendricks is just as solid and led the team in tackles last year. True freshman Myles Jack will be a star in the future.

The DL now has plenty of depth with the addition of Vanderdoes, so the Bruins will be rotating the DLineman a lot to keep them fresh. Nebraska will be a good test for the DL.

The secondary now has the talent it lacked last year but is still very green.

The stength of the team offensively is obviously Hundley. He made some very good throws vs. Nevada. He seems to be calmer in the pocket. He also seemed more ready to chuck the ball out of bounds in order to avoid a sack. Most of the sacks last year were not the fault of the OL. Most were caused by Hundley either not making it back to the LOS while scrambling or by holding onto the ball too long. Per Mora there was a big emphasis to reduce the number of sacks during the offseason.

The Bruins have a very good OL. Xavier Su'a Filo is the lynchpin. There is good depth at the OL but not a lot of ezperience.

It's still too early to gauge the impact of Jonathan Franklin's departure but Jordan James had a very good game vs. Nevada. He had more than 100 yards in the first half and then rested most of the second.

The receiving corps is solid. Shaq Evans is the No. 1 target. He can cover a lot of ground very quickly and is sure-handed. The two Devins - Fuller and Lucien - are Oregon fast.

Special teams seem to be good. They blocked a punt for a touchdown. PK Kai'mi Fairbairn seems to be better but he still has to prove he can be more consistent from longer distances. Kickoff specialist Sean Covington hit the end zone consistently on kickoffs.

The Achilles heel of the team is penalties. The Bruins led the country in penalties last year and they must have had close to 10 penalties against Nevada. With 15 true freshman playing in their first game the number of penalties can be understood. But the Bruins cannot hope to beat Nebraska if they have a lot of penalties. The other key to winning is the secondary. If they can grow up fast the Bruins will have a good chance to win. I think the DL, the OL , the LB corps, the QB, the running backs and the receivers will do wel

As I said above I do not expect a blowout either way.

Thanks for the breakdown. Good luck to your Bruins this weekend.

  9. I think Nebraska is going to win. Here is why, we have them at home at 11am which is around 9am their time so they will play tired, they had a bye week last week which would seem like a good thing as they can be more rested and prepared but they are young on D and us having an extra play week especially like last week was advantageous. I might get some negativity for this but I think our defense will come out and play well, and by well I mean a lot better than people are expecting. Yes we will still give up yards and points but will have some turnovers, sacks and some big stops. I love the athleticism we have on our defense especially with Gerry and Bando at LB. Gregory and our defense will get a couple sacks. I think as a team we only have 1 sack which is crazy because it seems like we have been close on nearly every passing play. I think our offense will come out in another gear and be that unstoppable force we have been expecting. That is all.

I agree with this. With so many redshirt and truefreshman playing, no doubt there will bumps in the road, however, after watching the game Saturday night, this young defense has a very strong upside and they will continue to improve from here on out and the bumps in the road are at a minimum. IIRC, what hurt last year at UCLA was that Beck went conservative on offense. Once you stomp on the gas, don't let up.

  10. I think this is part of the ideal non-conference schedule. You want a power, a middle of the road, and a easy game. This is the middle of the road team for that plan. Now schedule an Oklahoma and an Akron, and you have a perfect 3 game non-conference schedule.

I thought Oklahoma was on the schedule in the early 20's as part of the 50th anniversary of The Game of the Century?

  11. The real killer for Iowa, however, is the buyout, which is set at 75% of his remaining salary, paid monthly. So if Iowa wants to go another route for its head coach, that’s fine. It’ll just owe Ferentz about a quarter-million dollars a month.

    Every month.

    Until January of 2020.”

    LINK

Ha ha! It's probably a good thing the Iowa fans love Ferentz. It would cost them a fortune to fire him. About $18 million if they fire him this season.

The buyout is exactly why Ferentz isn't going anywhere. Ferentz is overpaid and over hyped.

  12. Pretty sure the way parity scheduling will work is that you will get h&h with UM,OSU, and Penn State whenever they are available, + 2 rotating.

My guess is that 2018-19 will look something like

    2018: Penn State, @Mich, @MSU

    2019: Mich, @Indiana, Maryland

and then 2020 will rotate OSU back on again.

In other words, greed is leading to these huge conferences which are ruining the sport.

Yep, the addition of Maryland and Rutgers was to tap into the major east coast markets, these two schools adds nothing to the B1G. I was probably the only one who liked the competive balance of Legends and Leaders.

  13. The only problem in a apartment house is that if the they do not allow antennas. I deal with this on a daily basis, as I provide high speed wireless services in SoCal. But if there is one antenna, they can not stop you. Check the outside of the apartment building. Some only allow cablel to be installed and get a cut for it. There fore banning the Dish/Direct TV antennas.

If you have access to an exclusive use area like a patio or deck, the FCC will over ride whatever the landlord or management company says.

  14. Question: I live in Kansas will I still get to see all the Nebraska games or will they play the sh**ty Big 12 games?

For the Washington game, if your local ABC won't have the the NU/Washington game, it will be on ESPN, it's that way for all B1G games that are on ABC.

If your cable/satellite provider has ESPN, ESPN2, BTN, and VERSUS for the Wyoming game (Wyoming is a road game, so the Mountain West TV package applies), you will be set. If not, check with your provider to see if they are in a different programming package. For example with Dish Network, within the Big 10 footprint, BTN is included in most programming packages, outside of the Big 10 footprint, it's only available in the sports pack.

  15. When confirmed, that will give us times for seven of our games so far, right?

    Tenn/Chatt - 2:30 (BTN)

    Fresno - 6pm (BTN)

    Wyoming - 6:30 (Versus)

    Wiscy - 7pm (ABC/ESPN)

    OSU - 7pm (ABC/ESPN)

    Minny - 2:30 (ABC)

    Iowa - 11am (ABC)

Correct. I also believe that the Northwestern game will be on BTN. Probably at 2:30. Should be announced by Wednesday.

TV information for the remaining 5 games will be announced on a 6-12 day window.
