  1. From a Hokie perspective ...

I have a hard time rooting for some of our ACC rivals even in non-conference games. I love to see UVA lose. Even though their losses to W&M and TCU may have hurt the conference, it's just too entertaining to watch their fans squirm.

I have a pretty strong dislike for Boston College, too. So I'll begrudgingly root for them in non-conference games. Same with Miami. However, I've mellowed in my dislike for Miami the last few years since they've been struggling, and I have found it easier to root for them in out-of-conference games.

Everyone else in the ACC I have no problem rooting for them in non-conference games and when it helps Tech.

Sounds like Husker fans view on Colorado.

Good luck to your Hokies on Saturday.

  2. Does anyone know when the coverage map is going to be released? I know there is an old map from last year, but I was hoping it would be updated....I HATE LIVING IN BIG 10 COUNTRY! Any help would be appreciated....

It'll be on ESPN2. I've already got confirmation from the GM of the Des Moines ABC affiliate that in areas that will have the Iowa game on ABC, the Nebraska game will be on ESPN2.

The local affiliate tried to get permission to put the Nebraska game on a digital subchannel, but due to the reverse mirror, they were denied.

  3. That's what I've been hearing. Brian Munson was on 1620 today talking about how the staff came back from vacation to find a boatload of their A-list prospects had committed elsewhere. I don't know who this magical commit you said we're supposed to get may be, but I hope it wasn't Simek. Sounds like that door is closing, too.

Was the entire staff on vacation at the same time (God, I hope this isn't the case) or were vacation's scheduled so that one or 2 coaches were in the office at all time?

In this age of recruiting 24/7/365, you just cann't close up shop for a couple of weeks and expect to come back and pick up were they left off.

If true that the entire staff was on vacation at the same time, it would tend to back up the rumblings from last week that "recruits were having a hard time" contacting coaches (which I did brush aside last week and now, i'm not so sure there isn't some truth to it).

  4. BRI.....you can have some of this friggen weather down here in South Florida. Today it was 90 degrees with 100% Humidity. Not the kind of humidity that you get in the mid west. This crap is the kind that looks like you are walking around in a damn sauna. My vest was drenched and that was on my way to roll call!

I'd take it in a hearbeat. Summer's are too damn short around here anymore

  5. My take:

Kansas - Soild offense. Returning starting QB and WR's are a huge key.

Nebraska - Unproven QB and WR's prevent me from picking NU to win the North. No question the defense looked great against Clemson. OTOH, Clemson isn't a pass happy, spread offense.

Colorado - it's do or die for Hawkins with 17 starters returning and a favorable non-con schedule.

Missouri - Only 10 starters returning and a new OC & DC. Big step back.

Iowa St - I keep hearing local talking heads say that Chizik didn't leave the cupboard bare. Better make some progress this year as next year, OU, UT, and TT are back on the schedule as well as brutual non-con schedule in 09 and 10.

Kansas St - what a mess.

  6. I actually Tweeted Bo back about this. Abso-freaking-lutely agree. You expect people to dedicate their entire lives to something and NOT be frustrated when their hopes are dashed? If you show good sportsmanship throughout a game/series, there's no reason you need to do the contrived handshake at the end of a game when your heart is broken.

Totally agree. I don't have a problem with what LeBron did. This isn't little league were everyone get's a participation ribbon at the end of the season. It's professional sports with world championships on the line as well as potential endorsement dollars.
