  1. I every now and then read what Ralph Brown puts on his website. His most recent post is regarding whether or not you scrap our read option spread from the gun to a more pro style to fit Stanton IF he gets the nod ahead of Armstrong.

    http://ralphbrownspo...-Johnny-Stanton

When reading this I thought of Vince Young and how Texas built a team and an offense around him and how well their offense succeeded, He did almost by himself beat USC in the Title game. On the other hand you can argue that Suh was part of a system that he worked within. Both had great success. and both could be considered once in a generation type players at least on the college level.

    So my question is this.

Do you change a circle hole to a square hole and make it fit?

Or do you change the square peg to a circle peg and make it fit?

  2. I think this is because Nebraska for a really long time has plugged the right type of person into a position and they excel in that position.

They are not NFL type of players, but their good at what they do.

  3. o start off I know the bracket I made is junk. I just picked team on a whim of who I think might win on that day.

    Anyways.

You can't change the conferences by relegating them to what we want them to suit our needs of a playoff.

Conferences are much more than just football, and you change them for football you change everything in all sports, can't be, and shouldn't be done.

College football is different than the NFL namely on the traditions we have.

Our post season traditions are conferences, and bowl games.

The non conference is junk, that's a tradition we can do without.

Every year college basketball creates a new schedule, and the fact that they say that footballs needs years in preparation for it is a joke, and cop-out.

A Conference title game loss shouldn't be counted against a team when they lose.

A buddy of mine discussed this over lunch the other day.

    1. First game is play one of the small schools to give them an opportunity to play a big name school and get a paycheck.
    2. Non CCG conferences play 9 games
    3. CCG conferences play 8 games, 1 game to determine AQ *This should allow for all of these conferences to establish their divisional winners
    4. 32 teams gives 5 additional weeks to the season for max total of games played 16 for two teams max.
    5. Season still starts in late august early September. The week before Christmas to give all teams a bye during finals week.
    6. Consolation brackets keep top 32 teams playing through 14 weeks.
    7. 32+ teams have the option to enter another bracket if the it is available *NIT*
    8. Bowl games moved to spring break. The week before the bowls is your annual practice game, the week after is the bowl game of exhibition

  4. http://ftw.usatoday....layoff-bracket/

    My thoughts.

Yes, this would be awesome, but won't work and here is why.

    1. Regions can't work the same way they do in Men's basketball. You can't have different teams playing on the same field for 4 consecutive games.
    2. Fans won't travel week in and week out to far off places.
    3. There is a big difference flying a team of 12 players and maybe 5-6 support staff compared to flying a team of 85 plus staff.
    4. Teams who lose early in the season what happens to them.

If it WERE up to me this is how I would do it.

I used strength of Schedule and multiplied it by winning percentage to get final rankings.

I'd to hear what you think.

  5. I think the conference change exploited the weakness that we had on D, aside from that Penn State had really good success in their early years of the B1G. I believe they won the conference the second year, but posted a record of 61-10 their first five seasons.

  6.

Good points. Part of me makes me think that the administration is on the same page simply because they have to be right now. I believe there was some truth to the rumors about Eichorst sending feelers to potential coaches. Bo did not act as if he was on the same page after the Iowa game. I do not know why he would make the comment "If they want to fire me, they can fire me" if he did not think it was a possibility. It is very possible that they did not have a proven coach lined up so we are just kind of stuck in this situation. Now that everything is out on the table we can move forward, but the uncertainty was not healthy for the program.

There might not be a complete divide in the fan base, but we are far from being united.

"If they want to fire me, they can fire me"

Maybe its my personality too, but there comes a point in any situation where you really have no idea what to expect. I throw this quote in to the category of "I'm tired of the question, if they are going to fire me now, there isn't much to be done about it." Anyone puts up a wall on a particular subject, and like anyone else goes home to his own thoughts. Maybe he didn't care, maybe he does care, maybe both, but the words are not what is most telling to me. The context in which it was used does. He was tired of it all.

I believe there was some truth to the rumors about Eichorst sending feelers to potential coaches.

I guess belief is just like faith in that you hope? I know that there was a post brought up earlier about something like this, and it just doesn't make sense. In today day an age, you don't put feelers out there without people not knowing. Or that its very unlikely that it gets by without people not knowing. With so many people wanting to be the one that "knows" something and they have to share it, I would bet it would be all over the place by now.

In Eichorst statement he was pretty clear that if he had said something earlier than what he did, and that he still talked earlier than what he wanted to, but he felt people would create some sort of benchmark.

Hell, as soon as he did say something people were already trying to read into what he said saying that oh he is leaving the door open for something after the bowl game.

I don't know anything, and hell maybe he's smarter than all of us. He is a Moneyball type of a guy.

  7. Not surprised Peterson took a pass but I was a little surprised they went with Sark. I figured Del Rio or maybe Franklin.

Rumor has it Del Rio was the first choice, but he wouldn't allow an announcement until Denver's season is over. Hayden feared the impact that would have on recruiting and thus took Del Rio out of contention for the job.

Makes sense. This is the same reason I don't think there will be a major coaching change for us this year. Have to do it early, wait to long and you really hurt yourself in the recruiting.

These current two weeks are vital.

  8. He also needs to find someone that can consistently catch punts and make the first guy miss.

    IMHO Westercamp isn't the problem.

I don't really know how much we take into account how hard it is to field a ball with 2 or more guys always breathing down your neck when your trying to catch a ball.

I think the odds of someone actually faking is well less then a muffed punt.

    Have to play the odds.

  9. What exactly has Pelini done since 2010 to make anyone think there will BE any improvements?

    Nothing, but............................

I am going to sit here and have faith that this year was kind of an enigma. Lots of Talent, Lots of Injuries, Lots of Expectations, Lots of Drama.

The drama sucks, but I think it will push the team closer as they fight through it. Next year barring the injuries should be better than this year.

If not, I think its a reboot.

  10. For a few days I've been sitting here and trying to wrap my head around the two arguments of the two sides. Earlier I was reading the couple of articles on ESPN CFN Nation (Nebraska). Got me thinking what would we be in for if the A: Bo is fired, or the B: Bo is retained

Bo Has to Go and this happens:

    A. Recruiting

    1. Chances of recruiting changes because of college football landscape and natural obstacles that faces Nebraska
    *Even*
    2.Quality of Character Guys
    *Minus 1*
    3. Loss of 2014+ Commits
    *Minus 1*
    4. Depth Issues in 3 to 4 years
    *Minus 1*

    Projected Outcome *Minus 3*

    B. Quality of Coaching Staff

    1. Hire a coach and the likelihood of getting a big name coach is unlikely, and end up hiring an unknown.
    *minus 1*
Unless they hire Ken Niumatalolo, and re-install the option
    *plus 2*
    2. Hire really good assistance that would jump at the chance of coming to Nebraska
    *plus 1*
    3. Hire a coaching staff that understands the Nebraska Culture, the walk on program and the Nebraska Way is unlikely
    *Minus 1*
    4. Better on field demeanor
    *Plus 1*

Projected Outcome *Even, possible Plus 1*

    C. 2014 Season

    1. Change in offensive playbook
    *Minus 1*
    2. Change in defensive playbook
    *Minus 1*
    3. Conflicts with coaching changes and less than a handful of players transfer
    *minus 1*
    4. Change of playbooks create lack of identity and lose to Fresno St. and Miami, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and a team we shouldn't lose too end up 8-5 for the season.
    *Minus 2*

    Projected Outcome *Minus 5*

    D. 2015-17 Seasons

    1. Continuity of both playbooks
    *Plus 2/Possible Minus 1*
    2. Depth Issues due to changes of playbook changes
    *Minus 1/Possible Plus 1*
    3. Chances of winning 27 games for these season likely
    *Plus 3/Possible Even*

    Projected Outcome *Even/Plus 4*

    E. 2018 Season

    1. Lack of recruiting of first year hits hard.
    *Minus 2*
    2. Schedule looks rough with Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and snowball effect losses to Northwestern, and Iowa. 7-6 or 6-7 season.
    *Minus 3*
(Explanation is B.C. was a known good recruiter, bad at developing players, Bo is an average recruiter and pretty good at developing players. Next coach probably won't be much better at recruiting, and probably would project to get with average development)

    Projected Outcome *Minus 5*

    Total Projected*Minus 13/Possible Minus 8*

    Retain Bo

    A. Recruiting

    1. Chances of recruiting changes because of college football landscape and natural obstacles that faces Nebraska
    *Even*
    2.Quality of Character Guys
    *Even*
    3. Bo recruits off season very well
    *Plus 1*
    4. Depth looks good right now
    *Plus 1*

    Projected Outcome *Plus 2*

    B. Quality of Coaching Staff

    1. Quality of coaching staff is a known quantity.
    *Even*
    2. Same on field demeanor
    *Minus 1*

    Projected Outcome *Minus 1*

    C. 2014 Season

    1. Continuity in offensive playbook
    *Plus 1*
    2. Continuity in defensive playbook
    *Plus 1*
    3. 2014 Season is harder than 2013, but players are playing better
    .
Projected 10-3 season Finishing behind Wisconsin/Michigan State
    *Minus 1
    4
    .
    BCS Bowl Bid
    *Plus 1*

    Projected Outcome *Plus 2*

    D. 2015-17 Seasons

    1. Continued continuity of both playbooks
    *Plus 2*
    2. Continuity of recruiting limits depth problems
    *Plus 1*
    3. Chances of winning 30 games in span possible to good
    *Plus 1*

    Projected Outcome *Plus 4*

    E. 2018 Season

    1. Continued Continuity of playbooks and players *Plus 1
    2. Schedule looks rough with Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Bo's teams show a lot of heart and fight. Nebraska Ends up winning 8 to 9 games this year
    *Minus 1*

    Projected Outcome *Even*

    Total Projected *Plus 7*

There is no real way to really tell what is going to happen, but even though I'm not using anything scientific in these predictions, its common knowledge what a program goes through with a coaching change.

Anti/Pro Bo we can all agree that our huskers are basket cases. The Solich/Callahan/and Pelini years have all been about the same. Shooting themselves in the foot, often beating themselves more than the other team beating them has plagued this team longer than Bo has been here.

As much as I am disappointed in the beating ourselves in recent years, I have a gut feeling that we would be much worse off firing Bo.

History shows that patience pays off.

Nebraska won't 9 games next year with a new coach.

Nebraska might be better after that first year.

Recruiting won't magically get better. We are not a destination place.

You might not take this as being objective, but all things relative who the hell knows. One thing I do know, is I'd rather be what we are today than a bottom feeder and a shell at the very least what we are today.

  11. I gave up on reading page two of this, but I am throwing my two cents in.

this is a COLLEGE football program. At the UNIVERSITY of Nebraska.

I just like everyone else feel like something is missing in this program but lets not loose site of what is really important.

Bo is running a good clean program. Winning football games, and granted loosing games in embarrassing fashion.

History shows that having patience pays off in the end.

For all of you who sit at your computer and armchair coach....SHUT UP.

be an unconditional fan, love our huskers for better or worse or go find another team to be a bandwagon fan of. I am tired of the fire Bo talk.

    Just knock it off.

*sorry for any errors....done by phone.*

  12. Another aspect I would like to point out was the fun that the kids have playing like this.

Its no secret that our special teams have had a lot to be desired for.

what do you think the appeal would be? Kids are drawn to different Oregon is catching on fire and their uniforms have a bit to do with that.

I think it would be awesome, but it would have me on edge a lot of the time. The way our d has played the last 6 quarters I would have a lot more confidence.

  13. MSU's defense passes both statistic tests and eye tests. Indiana's offense is no joke. They could move the ball on just about anybody, which they did as you said against (IMO) the best defense in college football.

They were also head to their (by far) lowest statistical outputs of the season. I don't know anything about Indiana's offense and their tendencies and schemes, but the only way we have success running the ball is if Armstrong can be serviceable and accurate in the passing game. MSU is going to put 8-9 guys in the box every play, as they are not scared in the least to leave their corners on islands.

I really hope they put 8-9 guys on the line...we'll option off that all day long.

Maybe a few times during the game. More if they use it out of different formation.

If they are as good as advertised then it won't work more than a few times. Can't win with that.

  14. Yeah no doubt they are a good defense. I won't take that away from them.

Earlier I read someone talking about Nebraska's rushing numbers being skewed as well.

Didn't have time to really look it up earlier, but here it is.

    Wyoming 114th

    South. Miss 109

    UCLA 80

    Illinois 115

    Purdue 111

    Minnesota 41

    Northwestern 70

    Michigan 13

One could say with the same logic as my original post that our ranking in rushing is skewed as well.

We did not fair so well against Michigan in the run as we think we ought to have. AA did have a 100 yard rushing game, but those were tough yards.

I will say that we have faced a better rushing defense than MSU has faced in a rushing attack for the year.

We have the ability to be explosive and MSU only has one direction to go and that is down.

IMHO MSU does to us what we did to them with their young defense of two years ago, this is not the game where they get exposed as a defense, that will be relegated to OSU in the CC.

Expect the worse, pray for the best my fellow huskers.
