  1. I was reading a stat line that said that MSU was giving up something like 40 yards of rushing per game.

Man that is impressive...or is it?

MSU has yet to play a team that ranks higher than 33rd in the run game, and in that game this team ran for 92 yards, threw for 350 and scored 28 points at MSU. This team is Indiana.

Yards to me are the biggest indicator of a defense, points win games, but you don't get points without yards.

This is what MSU as faced so far this year on offense.

(All numbers represent national FBS rankings)

Western Michigan Pass 73 Run 111

South Florida Pass 112 Run 113

    Youngstown State FCS

Notre Dame Pass 44 Run 85

    Iowa Pass 88 Run 43

    Indiana Pass 12 Run 33

    Purdue Pass 97 Run 122

    Illinois Pass 23 Run 96

    Michigan Pass 51 Run 97

    Nebraska Pass 92 Run 14

The best team top to bottom statistically that has played MSU is Indiana.

I'm not saying that MSU's defense is bad because they haven't played anyone. I am saying that MSU's defense is good but it hasn't been tested in the run game so far. Most teams have that they have played favor (most times largely) the passing game.

Nebraska has to beat MSU in the run game on both sides of the ball. Its the chink in their armor on both sides of the ball.

Off the top of my head one could say that Nebraska running game could be skewed too because of the competition. So If anyone has the time or desire to be the devil's advocate and bring up Nebraska's competition against run defenses I'd like to see it, but I have to go to class.

  2. This game wasn't a fluke, Wyoming is a lot better this year then they were last year.

We expected our young D guys to for some reason or another become a historic defense in their first game, yet we expected a somewhat experienced offense to just lay over, and not improve from last year.

Wyoming is in the top 25 by years end, and they probably finish the season with no more than three losses.

Might lose to UCLA, but come november, it will be a much different team than the first 3.

  3. I think that your expectations where like mine. I bought into the hype and coach speak.....buuut these guys are really inexperienced. Last year they were very experienced. I think it will get better. Next week hopefully is a better game, but we won the game, and I enjoyed the game. I usually get all to bored in non-conference games, and I was actually on the edge of my seat. I hate it at the time, but now I am relax and enjoy the game.

  4. Sadly I have a younger brother who just loves KSU. Today for his 18th birthday I surprised him with tickets.

I very much enjoyed the game.

I enjoyed the game even more when I brought up the last time I was there which just happened to be when TMart ran all over the place. They stopped talking to me when I did this. Wonder why?

I do have to say, NDSU is legit. They'd probably beat just about any team not in the top 30 the majority of the time.

    GBR

  5. Barry Sanders Jr. hasn't even played a down yet in college. Wish he would have ended up at OSU like his dad. Being from Wichita Barry Sanders is the reason why I became, and still am a Lions fan. (Though I just about jumped ship if they didn't draft Suh)

I've had way to many concussions before I could even play football to play much other then in a park or something, but I grew up watching the Huskers, and I can only imagine what the sons of these great players we had 20 years ago wouldn't want the opportunity to play for the Huskers. Get the pipeline going again. I couldn't even imagine wanting to take a scholarship to Iowa, KSU, or even tOSU if I had even the slightest opportunity to play for the Huskers.

    Everyone is different though.

Thanks for the link on the VAhusker

  6. I just forgot about the brother of the kicker Drew Brown.

But would it also be fair to say that the second generations usually don't live up to the shoes their father's wore.

I can't think of any professional athlete that actually was better then their father.

    Ken Griffey Jr.

Got me there, but still...its not easy to think of a bunch off the top of your head.

  7. I just forgot about the brother of the kicker Drew Brown.

But would it also be fair to say that the second generations usually don't live up to the shoes their father's wore.

  8. I know there are current 2nd Generation Players, like Banderas, and last year, Steinkuhler.

I'm not all that great with names period much less with those of 15 years ago.

So my question is this, how many families have we had multiple generations playing for Nebraska.

Just kind of off the top of my head, we win National Championships in 70-71, then again in 94,95 and 97. 23-26 years later, and did we have any 2nd generation players on those teams of the 90's?

Can we assume to get a good chunk of the sons of those 94-97 players and see another run of champions in the later half of this decade. (2018 and on?)

If I'm not coming off clear, I blame Dos Equis.

  9. We can all make points to justify our stance on this topic, but what it really comes down too is who goes home with a national title, and who doesn't. Huskers took home three in a span. Bama can take four or more.

20 years from now no one will know the little details of the seasons and will only know who was the best during those seasons. If Bama keeps winning they will go down as prolly the best.

  10. There is a pretty solid chance for the Big 10 title game to have an undefeated NU and undefeated OSU. That would be a sweet conference championship game. No, I am not sold on Michigan and the WCO they are trying to run this year, yikes.

Bo should know how to defend against that WCO.

Exactly, that is playing into his hands, it is also forcing Michigan to put in a new offense and to take away a lot of the QB runs. I am super happy about that!

I don't know about that, they will be running the WCO with a pretty good passer and an excellent runner at QB. The latter being our major weakness of course.

Glad you said that because that is exactly what I was thinking.

Think about how good those Niner's were in the 90's with Steve Young. Remember all of the running room Young had? Michael Vick wouldn't have been nearly the culture shock to the NFL if Steve Young had half the speed that Taylor has. Would of probably stretched several super bowls.....errrrr he turn concussion prone with the hits he took, and wouldn't of lasted as long as he did, if he ran like a present running QB.

Mobile QB + (insert offense type) Offense = Dangerous

  11. There has been a lot of stock put into Pelini and his defensive mind. I think Coach Ekeler said it best when he talked about how the transition to a new conference and different style of play.

I have confidence that once we get some better talent suited for this style of play, which I think we have, and get them some experience we'll see what we've expected from Pelini

  12. Part of the reason for the returns is the B1G's own ticket service, and that the ticket brokers are unloading them cheaper than the face value the tickets at the University's office were going for.

I think we'll have a good contingent of Nebraska fans on-hand, but I do think that part of the problem is that people think this game is a foregone conclusion and are banking on the Rose Bowl. If we were playing Penn State or tOSU again, ticket sales wouldn't be a problem.

I guess if your swimming in the Kool-aid, then I guess you'd think this game is a forgone conclussion. I was just watching a show on BTN called Elite or something like that and this particular show was over TO's first NC. The players were cocky, but absolutely stated that once you stop respecting your opponets, is when you lose.

There is no freaking way that this game is a gimme. I'd say Wissy beats the Beavers 7+ times out of 10. AND the way their going now, probably 50/50 on every other team they lost too this season.

This is going to be classic, and conviced that the Huskers lose a close one.....I hope to God I'm wrong, but that is just my gut feeling.

  13. Just read an article about how tickets are being returned.

As a husker fan I hope that we still end up getting there and show a lot of support, but it does make me wonder why a location has to be set in advance years in advance.

I don't think its that hard to give a place like Arrowhead a weeks notice, or even the Metrodome, and have a game set up.

The amount of money that could possibly bring to the area just seems to outweigh the short notice in timing.

This would obviously have to change depending on what two teams play in the CC.

Just a few thoughts I had

  14. I'll just say it....it's been a very tough season. After Ohio State, I thought...well...7-5 aint so bad. But they turned it around. I really watch alot of football on saturdays, like everyone else. I see the same mistakes being made, coaches losing it on the sidelines and games lost, that maybe should have been won. So, in other words, we are no different. Except for one thing....the fans......

In my neighborhood, on any given Saturday, you can see an array of college football flags being flown. Of course, I had to get the biggest Nebraska fan I can find! I always....and I mean always have folks stop by (if I am outside) and talk about how great the fans are and how great a program we have. Most acknowledge the down years, but all and all, the fans and the program is what folks bring up.

Win or lose, we have the reputation of having excellent fans...we do have some bad apples are out there, but for the most part, we have dedicated and loyal fans.

Just wanted to say that I am proud of our Program and the State of Nebraska. Ironic that the company I work for has plants in Holdredge, Broken Bow and Columbus....didn't know until I started working for the company.

    GBR!

You say "the company" and I can't help but think of prison break.

How big is your flag, I want to make it bigger.

  15. Don't really care to read where this post is now...probably..off topic by now.....since that is the way it usually goes.....and this is kind of like padding your stats..cuz I need some posts!

I voted 2009...maybe I am partial to Suh, but that line stopped everyone running for the majority of the year.

You can say that Vtech, and Texas are probably the only two teams worth a penny on the run game, but that front like was nasty, and the secondary was a scary.

Tmart would of been torn apart, and the ballhawking would enSUH.

2009 wins with Field Goals and D-TD's
