  1. While I am more confident in Coach Frost than I have been with any of our coaches since T.O., I have found myself tempering my expectations this year. After having overconfident expectations every season, two 4-8 seasons have me fighting trepidation.

I struggle to think we will win nine games. Yet, when I look at our schedule, I don’t see a game I think we can’t win. So, while I usually would say “B1G Championship, fo sho”, I’m now thinking “maybe we can back into a division title...?”.

I can’t wait to shake this feeling.

Addendum: maybe all of my overly optimistic hysteria has been channeled into the Browns, as I have been thinking “we could reach the Super Bowl!”

  2. Not to be a curmudgeon, but did we need a new thread just to recommend a song that’s been out for almost 50 years? There’s like 133 other tunnel walk threads where it was more than likely mentioned, and met with a collective yawn.

The home field advantage is typically given atleast a touchdown or so for most teams.  At first glance our home field edge ought to be worth as much  10 pts but it has not meant nearly so much the past decade or so.   I tend to think our fans are worth atleast 7, especially when our team is having some success generally.   The past two years - not so much of course.

The problem with assuming our schedule is going to be so much easier than last year is it fails to account for the upward trends of some of the perceived 'weaker' opponents.   Iowa and Northwestern have been giving us fits for years.  Wisconsin has basically dominated the series with NU since we joined the Big Ten.   Then you throw in the fact that we lost to Purdue badly, lost to Colorado and now go to both their stadiums, those games could easily be toss ups.  Injuries and officials can easily negate several wins - look at the past several years' penalties etc.

I think the Ohio State game will be tougher this year than last as the Buckeyes were reeling under the Urban Meyer wife beating scandal, and we kind of caught them off guard.

There are lots of very winnable games on the schedule but only a couple look to be 'easy' ones.  The 2 off weeks might fall nicely IF we survive the first 7 games without a rash of key injuries.   Then you throw in the typical two or three games a year when the weather is not favorable to our playground - fling it around alot - offense - there are plenty of reasons to argue our schedule is NOT that 'easy' and should be amongst the more difficult ones in the conference.   And, lastly, I believe we will find that the Big Ten as a conference is getting stronger from top to bottom and there are no real gimmes in there.   Home or away - 2019 is a gauntlet NOT a cakewalk.

The biggest concern I may have with the coming season is the ever building (over) confidence by far too many fans and pundits about the Huskers.   We are still coming off two consecutive 4-8 seasons and were 0-6 last fall for the first time in history for goodness sakes!    Let's all be enthusiastic fans and support our team and coaches and players with all the zeal we can muster BUT try to maintain that support whether we get rolling or not.   The program is still in early years of a mammoth rebuilding project.   We are FAR from reloading!

I believe home field advantage is worth three points vs. a neutral field, which makes a six point swing from season-to-season in conference play.

Do you have any info on the camera person who was hit during this year's Spring Game? She took a hell of a shot in about the third quarter. Trainers worked with her for a while, then she sat on the West bench for the rest of the game.

Not as bad as your hit, but still really solid. She hit her head on the turf pretty good.

I don’t, but I could probably find more pretty easily. I’ll reach out to some old coworkers.

Was that from the crash on the sidelines?  I was just up in the stands from where that happened.. That was as hard as most any hit I've seen on the field.

Yep. Kenny Bell’s helmet to the side of my head.

How many here have had a concussion?  I've had five that I know of.  No long term lingering effects, I'm 40, but they messed me up pretty good at the time.

I’ve had three diagnosed ones, a couple others that were definitely concussions.

It’s hard to say if the concussions had as much to do with it or the blunt trauma from the collision of my last diagnosed one (4.5 years ago); but I’ve definitely had a dip in brain function. Basic math is often difficult, I have a far more limited vocabulary, my eyes lose focus semi-regularly, perpetual headaches, and my memory is significantly worse.

So, I’m hella concerned about head safety. My son says he wants to be a Husker. I tell him to be a pitcher, or if he has to be a football player, it’s kicker only.

you would think with all the science and tech someone would build a much better helmet?  i am sure one is in the works somewhere......head trama is all too common.

If they can develop a helmet that defies physics, that’d be pretty amazing.

  9. If the adidas logo was moved back to the center, it wouldn’t look quite so bad. Still, four patches on one jersey is ridiculous. If they’re dead set on the 150 years patch, use it in place of the winning tradition patch.

Apparently there was a 100 years patch in 1989. When the 101st year came around, someone thought “well, I guess we just have to have a patch!” Like they hadn’t seen any jerseys erstwhile and thought it was just a thing Nebraska jerseys have. A winning tradition has been there since.

In my opinion, it’s stupid to have a patch that isn’t commemorating a specific event/anniversary. Instead of saying “oh, we’re good at football, y’all!”, it’d be a lot more effective to just win instead.

Someone thinks the Husker Hype is a bit premature.  Some thinking in the opposite direction.

How dare Mr. O’Gara go against the Huskers!! To think, I played pickup basketball with the guy back in our Kearney days!

    Actually, not surprised... at all.

I hope you’re right. John Dorsey met with Ziggy twice before the draft. The Browns are shopping Duke Johnson and don’t get Kareem Hunt until game 9. I think Ziggy would be a nice backup for Nick Chubb. Fairly similar style back, so wouldn’t be a complimentary back, but as far as reserves go.

I'm sure the QB competition last fall was close, but Martinez clinched the starting spot when he made an "oh crap" run against the #1 defense in scrimmage drills at a practice near the end of camp.

As Mavric stated, Martinez has turned out to be the better QB, and that's not a knock against Gebbia.  In almost everything, there is going to be someone "better than you".

I don’t know that anyone can say Martinez has turned out to be better, when Gebbia hasn’t even taken a live snap.
