  1. They can recruit, that's for sure. The thing is, you can't win without good players...and now they have some. Here's to hoping they win big again!
  2. You guys run a great board...I can't say how happy I am to be here...even if others aren't!
  3. Yeah, I have one...and it is eat everything in sight...
  4. LOL...the stupid admin. there now banned all Pedersen attacks...
  5. The Husker weight program used to be the envy of the nation. Do you think this new guy and new facility will take us back to the top? I believe it will.....what do you guys think?
  6. I am so glad I'm here...even though I was a dick to stuckinchicago, he does have some very valid points, and everyone here seems to know a lot about things...glad I jumped over from the GI independent... Who were you there? I'm using the same name.
  7. WE AGREE!!!!! YAAAAAAAAY! I was a sophomore at Wayne State when Wagner took over...the man can really coach!
  8. And now a word from our sponsor: Go Big Red! We're all on the same side here! We all want the same thing! Now back to our regularly scheduled program: I'm not going to argue with you anymore. You're right. I'm right. We are both entitled to our opinions. I'm glad you're a passionate fan!!! I really respect that. So where do we go from here? We agree to disagree, and both look forward to the future. I think we can be friends, even though I'm kind of a jerk! I think the Huskers will win it all inside of 5 years!!!!!
  9. Semantics!? What, so are you saying that you were a viable candidated for your high schools coaching job? Are you saying that these schools, by not saying we dont want Frank Solich, in some way means that Solich was the best coach out there, but they wanted the second best. Actually, yes I was viableand no, I wasn't saying that. If you would re-read my post, you would see that I never said that. There are certainly circumstances that happen every day at every school. Until you are or have been an administrator at a DI school, your opinion is just that, an opinion. Stop stating your opinion as fact. A third grader knows the difference there. He coaches at OHIO!!!!!!!! I told you that all of those recruits you listed in a prior agrument, the one where you said Josh Mueller was the ninth rated tight end, and listed a bunch of other ones, were three star recruits, with a couple of exceptions, and that their position rankings were evidence of a weak recruiting year at that position, not how good they are. Um, no, you only said Joe Dailey was a three star...unless I missed it, which may have happened. Again, saying it was a weak year is your opinion. NOT a fact. Unless you are a college scout, your opinion is just that...an OPINION. Maybe if you go to dictionary.com, it may help How can you not understand that Devaney took a team that had three wins the year before he got there, and got consistantly BETTER! Going from 9-2 in 1967 to 6-4 in '68 and 6-4 in '69 was getting better? Hmmm...this argument continues to leak where as Frank's teams got consistantly WORSE. They did? 9-4 his first year to 12-1 his second was worse? 7-7 to 9-3 is getting worse? A KINDERGARTNER knows that one. Its like you dont understand simple concepts. Devaney took over what is the equivelent of a Kansas right now, and Solich took over fricken national champions!!!!! It's not the same!!!!! If you would read my post instead of getting so upset, you would see that I conceded that point. However, with your logic, NU should have fired TO...he took over a program that had won two national championships in three years, and didn't win another one for 24 years. These are simple elementry school patterns. Then why can't you see them? Dude, you gotta stop getting so mad at my posts. I doubt I'm going to change your mind, and you certainly aren't going to change mine. Again, though, you use heresay, I use numbers and facts. And I cannot believe you want me to give you the specific Sports Center where they mention schools pursuing coaches. Do you live in a hole or something. As a matter of fact, it seems like it! I live in Muncie, IN, which is just like a hole. My point about the SportsCenter thing is that I didn't hear it. Re-read my post. I said that doesn't mean it didn't happen. I just didn't hear it, so to me it was hearsay. Do you not see how I take your statements, and refute them with NUMBERS and FACTS? I don't make generalizations...the times you have actually backed up your opinion with fact, I have conceded the point. However, those have been very few and far between. I think like someone else said on another thread...You're like two teepees...too tense! It ain't that serious, dude! It's football!
  10. Thanks for the info, dude...I am rooting for PSU...I have always respected JoePa and his program!
  11. Indiana, please tell me what you think that facts are, because I keep giving what most would call facts, but apparantly you dont consider them to be. This is conjecture. An example of a non-fact. You have no numbers to back it up. Your statement gives no specifics. Using terms like "what most people would call" but you have nothing to back that up. I told you how recruiting services, both very recongnizable ones, rated the players we recruited, No, you quoted one rating of one player. We both agree then, that Frank had several top-25 classes? i mentioned what sports center, a nationally recognized tv station, says all of the time, This is heresay. I didn't hear some of these things. That doesn't mean they didn't happen. Perhaps if you give me the times when they happened or articles about them...But when I post things, I don't just say "he said, she said". I quote the exact facts. You don't. I mentioned what schools specifically had made coaching changes, passing a very available Frank, who was searching for a job, by. I have given the name of specific schools that have been successful recently, and if you dont believe me, please refer to earth, and have said that they can both run and pass the ball. If you dont believe me on that one, see last reference. My high school had an opening last year, but they didn't pick me. This proves nothing to me, unless you can prove to me they actively said "We don't want Frank Solich". I suppose it's semantics again. And I think we all know what schools have been successful lately, so there's no news there. I have given the name of specific Nebraska recruits who have done well. I must've missed that one. I have looked up and informed you of what "highly regarded recruits" that you mentioned were rated, Generally "recruits" means more than one...you only provided one. and I have said that Devaney took a poor football team with no talent or tradition and taken them to the promise land in eleven years of coaching. A valid point. Stat- championships before Devaney-0 After-2. Let's compare apples to apples...Stat--Solich in his first 6 years--58 wins. Devaney in his first 6 years--53 wins (although Devaney had a better winning percentage, I'll give ya that). Stat--Solich's last year 9-3, Devaney 6-4. Devaney went on to win 2 championships...after two 6-4 years. He made changes and was successful. Solich made changes, went from 7-7 to 9-3 after his changes and was fired. I should think even a third grader would be able to see the parallels. I have said that frank took a team loaded with talent and tradition, and made them a mediocre program. Stat- championships in the 4 years before frank-3 after-0. Stat--National championships in the six years after Devaney-0. National championships 20 years after Devaney--0. With your logic NU shoulda fired TO long before he retired. I have given a specific stat, 16-10 that says that Frank lost lots of games after he lost TO's recruits. Devaney went 21-10 the three years after he lost Jennings' recruits I have mentioned that the big twelve north was weak and that we played a weak schedule in franks last year. we played a struggling penn state team that did not make a bowl. we played utah state, we played a relatively tough southern miss. i guess that was Franks "big win" we played a texas A&M that struggled. We played an Oklahoma State team that underacheived. We got beat to a pulp by Texas, Kansas State at home, and a decent but not great missouri team. We then preceded to beat up on the cannon fodder that is the rest of the big twelve north, who couldnt beat a single big twelve south team except baylor this year. Fact--NU went 5-6 with an even easier schedule last fall. Perhaps you would rather have that than 9-3. Osborne had a handful of 9-3 seasons where he couldn't beat good teams on his schedule, even mediocre ones. But he only lost to a team with a losing record ONCE in his career...I'll bet you were someone calling for TO's head when he couldn't beat OU. Probably would have signed the petition to fire Devaney after he went 6-4 two years in a row, too. I guess the point I'm making is, I am quoting numbers, not heresay. You do quote some numbers, but not very darn many. Any way you try to spin this, Frank did not deserve the treatment he got, IMO, and there are a LOT of people that think that...sorry, I quoted heresay.
  12. Dude, great story. I have heard similar ones over the years, and I'm glad you shared this one with us. It epitomizes the Husker mentality...good fans, better people.
  13. No apology necessary...I am the one who should apologize. I was a big jerk!
  14. Hey, can some of you PSU gurus tell me about JoePa's recruiting classes in the last 5 years? It seems to me they had several top 10's but have faltered on the field lately...I haven't found much. I seem to remember hearing or reading about how well they have recruited in the last few years, but haven't produced...can ya help me out?
  15. Your opinion. I try to back mine with facts, while yours is just opinion. To each his own, I guess.
  16. Well, sorry. You got me on that one. Thought I had read that somewhere. Here's the article I found on Dailey when he decided on that one. Notice I admit when I am wrong. Still waiting for some of you to come clean and back up your arguments. But wait, you can't! http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2003/0...corn/corn03.txt
  17. You know what? You are absolutely right! First decent comment today (including mine!)!
  18. 1. The current power teams in college football, USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas, Michigan, and Florida State all consistanly get highly ranked recruiting classes. (and by highly ranked I mean higher than 21, or 24, or whatever you consider a great Solich class) Don't put words in my mouth. I never said Solich had a great class. Only that his were ranked in the top 25. Penn St. has also had highly ranked classes. How many bowl games have they been to in the last two years? 2. Devaney took over a talentless team with almost no tradition and built them into a dyanasty. Frank took a dynasty and turned them into a mediocre football team that, after all of TO's recruits had left, went 16 and 10 while playing in a weak big twelve north. They were a dynasty when he went 6-4 in 1967 and 1968? Hmmm...finding some holes here... 3. Jammal Lord could not throw, and you have a point that we couldnt be two dimensional with him at the helm, but then again Frank recruited him and Joe after saying that more emphasis was going to be put on the pass. Joe was hailed as the next coming of Donovan McNabb. By the same recruiting gurus you quoted in #1. 4. Big schools like Florida, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Washington, and the rest do not go, lets see who applied for head coach today. They actively pursue coaches and make offers to coaches, some of which are still employed else where who technically cannot express intrest unless the school contacts the current place of employment and gets permission. None of these schools hired Frank, which means either they had zero interest in him, or the contacted him and he applied and did not get the job in favor of someone better. Really...when were you an administrator of a Division I college program? You know this for sure? Now, I'm not going to argue this too much, because there is a point somewhere in there about schools not pursuing Solich. Again, though, "not going after" is a long ways from "turning down". 5. It is true that we recruited to a system so we could not go out and get the big name wide outs and tight ends. But where are our I backs, dual threat quarterbacks, and defenses period. Horne was the only highly regarded i back we got under Solich, and he was from Nebraska. Dukes was the only quarterback, and he was a bust. Demorrio was a good recruit, and Fabian, and Rude, but three impact players in probably about 40 or 50 defensive recruits is hardly a jaw dropping amount. Frank couldn't recruit, he couldn't coach in today's game, and he doesn't belong as the head coach of Nebraska. That being said, I wish him all of the luck in the world and I hope he proves me wrong. Really? Josh Mueller was rated in the top 10 at his position coming out of high school. Tierre Green wasn't rated, but I'll bet you're glad he's on this team. Dane Todd was the #17 fB coming out of high school. Jared Helming #10 DL out of high school. Mark LeFlore was the #15 reciever. Cory Ross was the #11 RB coming out of high school. Need I continue? I'm interested to see what "facts" you come up with now.
  19. Indiana he inquired about and Illinois he expressed interest. Interviewed for neither of them. The rest of the college football world saw it, why can't some others see it. Solich is not a difference maker. Alrighty, you got me there. I still don't see how someone "not going after" another coach constitutes "turning them down". To be turned down, almost by definition, is asking for something and not getting it. Symantics, I suppose. You choose your interpretation, I'll choose mine. Thanks, DJR, you were the first to actually come up with some facts. I appreciate that...instead of pretending to know what happens at major universities when it comes to choosing a head coach, and stating it as fact. Yes, that is a direct jab at the person who claims to know how Washington, Notre Dame, etc. choose coaches at the administrative level. I don't know for sure, and unless you've been there, neither do you.
  20. I hear ya on that one...I have to have somewhere to go when I lose all of those arguments... Oh, and just for the sake of it, IMO you are right about recruiting (I was just arguing, lol). While Frankie brought in some good classes, I think his major problem was depth, or lack thereof. While he did have some talent, he didn't do enough to develop the backups. I was hoping the new staff would help out with that one. I think Callahan will develop some depth. I still LOVE his offense, especially with a QB to get open recievers the ball!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Hoya, perhaps you should read posts before criticizing them. I believe I did acknowledge (sorry, you may have to look that one up) the fact Devaney came in under different circumstances. Second, while I proved Solich did recruit relatively well, I also acknowledged the fact Cally had a superb class this year. However, one great recruiting class does not a great team make (sorry, felt kinda like Yoda there). I never disagreed with the whole "Solich isn't a great coach because he wasn't picked up right away" thingy (note the grammar there! ) per se. I don't know why he wasn't picked up. We are all entitled to our opinions. That's why I am not going to argue with you anymore, you cannot even use correct grammar to point out someone else's TYPO. Dog, if you didn't grasp the sarcasm with my last line, I appollogise! I didn't criticize your post, I threw my $.02 in. There's really no surprise your world involves therapy with the defense you throw up. I'm not here to name call, I read to educate myself and enjoy the differing opinions of others who care for the Scarlet and Cream. Sorry if I offended. You did acknowledge the circumstances both coaches faced were different, but you said Frank had a better record than Devaney when he was fired, is that correct? Frank's career record was 58-19 (.753) and Devaney at NU was 101-20 (.829). FACT: Devaney won a higher percentage than Frank. The point I was making is that Devaney put a school on the map that was below .500 the previous 6 years. He won Big 8 titles 4 of his first 5 years. Frank got to the NC game once and was blown out. He ended the record streak of 9 win seasons. Do you believe a change was due? Would you have given Frank and the staff 4 or 5 more years? I believe NU is one of the top 10 programs in the nation, and I don't think Frank is one of the top 10 coaches in the nation. Whether BC is or not remains to be seen. I'm at least willing to give him a chance for another two or three years. I apologize, too...I jumped to conclusions! I do that sometimes...sorry if I offended you as well! (My therapist thanks you, too... ) You have a valid point...however, I am talking about Solich's first 5 years compared to Devaney's first 5. Although, you do make a very strong point about where Devaney took the team from where it was. I still think Frank was a pretty good coach. You don't. You have some good points to base your opinion on. I TOTALLY respect that!!!!!!! In my opinion, if Frankie had been given the chance (probably not 4-5 years, more like 2-3) he may have done what the Bobfather did. The point is, we will never know. Yes, I was willing to give Frankie more time. That said, I fully support Cally...I think he has the potential to do great things! P.S. Did ya see my not about sometimes arguing just to argue? I'm bad about that! One thing I think we all agree on...the Big Red is headed UP, and we love 'em! Go Big Red!
  22. Feel better now? I promise not to hurt your feelings anymore, skers. I won't call anymore names, you seem to be pretty sensitive. This is the very last time I will respond to one of your posts, so I don't step on your toes anymore. Bygones.
