  1. I’ll preface by saying yes, I am old. Boomerish if you will.

But we now have teams made up of kids from this “me first” generation. And everyone of them is ready to become the next big thing in the NFL.  There is no team any more. I get the portal, if coaches can bolt at any time,  why not the players. But this opting out, especially at the last minute is what I really detest. Bailing on your teammates the night before a bowl game (I wish I could remember which team) just doesn’t sit well with me. But again, I’m from a different generation where the team came first, not the individual. Obviously that is not ruining the game, I thought there were several extremely entertaining bowl games this year, it’s just the part of it that really turns me off.

OK, I’ll get back to yelling at clouds now.

  2. I know there is a cumulative effect on his play due to the weaknesses around him.  Maybe he was skittish or rushed things because the likelihood was that he was going either scramble or get sacked. But the reality is that he still made numerous mistakes on plays where he did have time. He missed open receivers, threw picks, or fumbled. How many time this year alone did he overthrow Allen?  When he had sufficient time.

I love the kid and I hope he does great at KSU. He’s just a class act. But the reality is, he did have some shortcomings that were his own. Not just the fault of the supporting players around him.

I wonder if he had other offers (P5 level) or KSU was pretty much just a done deal right from the beginning.

This. A splash hire.  Opens up that Texas pipeline that the talking heads say we need.  He knows the B1G and can develop QB's.  I hope you are correct.  If we hear nothing with all the big time games on tomorrow, I feel like we are screwed.

But why would they come here?  To be an assistant to a lame duck coach.

Unless, is there any possibility TA is involved and there is a implied offer of being the next head guy? It could be a win-win then, if you get the offense humming it only boosts his resume, but if the team fails, it’s still on the head coach and you get the opportunity to take over?

I know, probably far fetched, but otherwise I just can’t see why someone would take that job.  Unless we’re going to throw boat loads of cash at them.

Can’t say it’ll be better but hard to envision it going worse. Will really depend on if the new offensive assistants and special team coach (today further solidified that happening), understand how to play against the boring teams of the Big Ten. Figure out how to control the clock, tempo and complementary football and you should win 6-7 games with relative ease. Several Big Ten coaches know just enough to not beat themselves. They typically have what most would consider to be poor or mediocre talent. An average talent that doesn’t beat themselves annually finishes in the top two in our division every year.

Too many variables between now and game one but our schedule gets a little more favorable (more so with Riley at Oklahoma likely leaving), new assistants to bring new possibilities and seeing off a senior class that just couldn’t figure out how to finish. Gotta find the positivity or else it’ll be a long nine months.

So basically what you’re saying is he needs to learn to coach!?

I hope he does, but I’m certainly not optimistic. To aspire to having someone who “knows just enough to not beat themselves” is a pretty low bar. Unfortunately that low bar seems to still be out of reach for us.

As painful as it is we should give frost one more year.  It sucks being a fan going through this and im starting to get on the wagon that he will never have the smarts to right this ship.  Its the thought of the one of us bringing us back.  But the reality is we need the money to be right, we need other potential coaches to see that this place can be a place of stabality and you will be given time.  After next year if this melts down more, no one will blame us.

    That makes sense.

But……after what has transpired this year, and especially yesterday, I don’t think anyone would have blamed us if TA had done it this year. I do believe he screwed up by not waiting, because yesterday would be have been (should have been) the proverbial final nail.

Angry Husker Fan is among the most irrational of creatures.

It's going to be a swell offseason.

Not everyone is angry. Or irrational.  Resigned is a more apt word.

Why be angry? We know exactly what to expect each Saturday.

The irrational ones are the ones who think anything will be different next year. It’s been the same thing for five years. Maybe delusional is a better word.

We now know the cost of a year of Husker football is, the amount we’re saving on the buyout.  Because we sold out next year for that amount.

  7. No matter if he’ll be wanting to play at 25 or not,  or no matter if they really don’t have him their future plans, it’s still just plain dumb to burn a year of eligibility on a couple of meaningless snaps. You just never know what will transpire down the road, and that extra year could be needed. Just makes zero sense.

This is false. McCaffrey didn't burn a redshirt. He redshirted in 2019 by playing in less than 4 games, and he got a free year in 2020.

Sorry, forgot to add the question mark behind that as I wasn’t sure if I was remembering correctly. I thought he came in for one play.

Didn’t we burn a shirt two or three years ago by putting someone in for one play? Cannot remember who but the staff said they didn’t realize the situation?

for gods sake why burn it for two snaps in a nothing situation?

Why does it matter to you what is driving their cause?

Multiple people said NU fans called them "pieces of trash".

No thanks, not getting into that discussion.

Fans shouldn’t have been derogatory to the girls, no excuse for that. Well within their rights though to holler for them to stand.

You‘ll never be able to explain to me (in a manner that makes sense to me, probably would to others) though about the reaction of our team.

Overall though, Iwould agree, sure a poor look for our fan base.

Here is a bit on why the girls are kneeling during the anthem.  https://umterps.com/news/2021/9/1/volleyball-blocking-out-the-hate-maryland-volleyball-leads-the-charge-on-social-justice.aspx

As far as our girls in tears, I think it would be tough for them to hear fans in the crowd for a University and state that they are choosing to represent booing and calling their fellow competitors "pieces of trash".  I think that Cook teaches his players to respect your opponent, and considering the youth volleyball circuit these days, I wouldn't be surprised if some of NU's volleyball players personally know some of the girls being booed.  What kind of response would you expect from NU's players?  They were upset at the fans' reactions.

Alright then, if they’re still using the George Floyd thing I’m just going to exit this conversation.

Although, if the fans really did call them “pieces of trash” then that was out of line.

This is an interesting take I didn't expect.

I personally feel the whole thing is nonsense. Again, that’s my opinion and I realize it’s one not shared by everyone. The difference is, I respect their opinion and the right to have it. BUT……people come to a very conservative area of the country and do that, there is going to be pushback. It’s simply inevitable.

I would like someone to simply ask the girls who were kneeling, what exactly they are kneeling for?  I really wonder if they could tell you.

I don’t know if anyone has followed this on FB where the university administration is falling all over themselves apologizing, but the consensus, by a very large majority is not supporting the administration’s stance.

And still it begs the question to me, WHY were our girls in tears?  I really just cannot fathom why.

  13. I’m not a fan of the kneeling, but that’s just my opinion and I understand that is their right.

But OUR players were in tears about it?  Good God, I hate to sound old (even though I am), but grow up. What are they going to do when they get out in the real world if this is enough to cause this kind of emotional turmoil.

Ok, flame on and call me boomer.

    He's done now.....

Was already eluded to earlier in the week.  He has a hand injury that needs attention.  I think he's already 23-24 years old and he's an NFL player.  He's already had a med redshift and covid year.

Thanks. Had to do what’s best for him. But he’s going to hard to replace. Sure enjoyed watching him play.

You just named issues with half of the special teams units.  That's a long ways from ST being a strength.  The big thing that I think a dedicated ST coach can do is enable proper organization of the players on game day.  There will be one coach on the sideline having his ST units ready to go on the field when needed.  I think attention to detail and organization are huge weakness for Frost.  Having a dedicated ST coach should help in those weak areas.  As others have said, I think it's an overall mindset and focus on special teams which has been lacking for years at NU.

That kind of organization prevents you from having to call a timeout at the beginning of the second half…before the kickoff.

I've always believed you should run a 4 yard play on first down.  Then you should go with a 4 yard play on second down.  It's makes at far easier on the offense if only need to get 2 yards for the first round.  Think about it.....You call a 2, 3 or 4 yard play and still get a first down.  The coaches that really know what they are doing will call a touchdown play every once in a while to keep the defense honest.

    But we’re usually 1st and 15!

The coaches are on record saying that Adrian is the starter and the possibility of a change is "not a story". I hope that Logan is ready to play next season, but the coaches seem to think Adrian is better even with a broken jaw, ankle injuries, and whatever else.

Simply putting the teams struggles on Adrian is an easy way out. The reality is the team struggles tremendously in so many areas (pass blocking, run blocking, play calling, special teams) that a QB change isn't going to fix all of those issues.

You’re most likely correct, it won’t fix those issues. But if AM isn’t 100%, especially with his legs, I think you at least have to try someone different. If AM runs tentatively like he did Saturday, his effectiveness is negated greatly.

Question about communication. Does the lineman who consistently get beat on Martinez’s left side ever yell anything to let Martinez know they got beat and pressure is coming?

Because too many times Martinez is completely blind sided by the blind side tackle. Give the guy a heads up that you got beat and someone is coming. AM then needs to realize to either throw it away or get out of there instead of routinely taking the sack.

Another example of never adjusting what you do. If you have a glaring weaknesses at tackle, especially the blind side one, then maybe you have to keep a back in to help block. Or a tight end, because Lord knows we don’t target them enough. But do something, anything, to maybe buy your QB an extra second or two.

So MSU sucks, like, they are smoke and mirrors

Michigan is okay, they have some dudes that can play

I am not even sure which team is the best team that NU has played this year...but I am sure that they do a great job losing to s#!t teams.

I remember back in the glory years always thinking how vastly overrated the Big10 was. Most bowl seasons their “powerhouse” team would go to Pasadena and get blasted in the Rose bowl by an extremely mediocre PAC 12 team (97 Michigan, barely beats a piss poor Washington St team, and then still claims they were the best team!?).

I think it’s still the same. I don’t know that anyone in the Big 10 this year is really very good. And typically the playoffs show this each year.

Can you imagine even what TO’s weaker teams would have done in this conference?  We might have gone years without losing a conference game.

We’re the bottom dweller of the weak division of a weak conference.

  20. With the AM situationFrost has shown him himself to be either incredibly stubborn or incredibly loyal. What makes people think he’s going to let anyone dictate to him staff or scheme changes?

And even if he did allow changes to the staff, ultimately he’s still the guy calling the shots. At this point I don’t know if firing is the right call or not, but honestly I really don’t know why we would expect anything different if he does come back. He’s actually been incredibly consistent over the four years……consistently head scratching.
