  1. i am done with this board. it is disconcerting how seriously those in control take made up rules. it is embarrassing how they take themselves so seriously. but at the same time, this is a place for friends to gather, converse, and stay in touch. and those guys that can no longer come here were friends. and i see no point in continuing here when people that become important to me are arbitrarily and capriciously exorcised. none of them needed to go and they all did more good for the board than bad. so while what those in control do may be petty, it has heavy consequences. this may be melodramatic, i no longer know because this board is concurrently so serious and a joke, but i see no reason to remain a poster and thought i would share why.

    take care, you guys.

  2. I really like Coach Riley. The optimism, the work ethic, his devotion to the job and the wisdom he brings. I just really hope it all comes together on the field. It would be hard for me to see a guy like this asked to leave the program. It was kind of a bummer for me when Solich was fired simply because I liked Frank as a man. I respected him. I'm gaining a lot of respect the more I learn of Riley and some of his assistants as well. Fact remains though, it's all about what happens on gameday. If I had to say right now though, I just have a feeling we are going to kick some serious ass in the coming seasons. I think it's going to go really well.

it is. but he has been a real breath of fresh air so far.

  3. If those are your goals, I honestly think Riley will be successful.

If you want conference championships or appearances in New Years Six bowls, prepare to be let down. The only real chance for that to happen is next season, the schedule after that makes it much to difficult.

at this point, with the B1G seeming to be in the process of really beefing up, i think that will always be a real challenge.

  4.

I think alot of folks wanted him fired after the Wisconsin loss, but weren't sure if it would actually happen, especially after him daring the admin in 2013.

true, but after that dare, i think things were different. would you agree it all felt more tenuous at that point? everything just seemed on edge. and he was putting together a respectable season, at least on paper. then wiscy happened and i just got the impression that that was it.

Completely agree. I wanted it to happen, but was still in disbelief when it did. I think alot of it had to do with the national media being split on doing it, vs when Bill was fired.

it was a weird time. i was expecting it, but still shocked when it happened. eichorst showed a lot of moxie in his actions.

  6. Frank had an even better team in 1999, going 12 - 1, beating 4 Top 20 and 2 Top 10 teams, and finishing the year ranked #2 and #3 in the polls.

Osborne only had four better seasons in his 25 years.

I don't know why we insist on forgetting that 1999 team.

i might. because it hurts. that could have been, and should have been, number 4 in the 90's.

but you are right, that was a great season. and another reason frank was wronged for getting fired. he won a ccg and got us to an mnc. pretty great resume. unlike his successors.

  7. I think he's wrong wen saying no one saw the decision coming. I remember sitting on my freinds couch towards the end of the Wisconsin game saying exactly "this is it. This is Bo's last blunder. This sh#t cant fly no more". He (my friend) said no way in hell. I said "well, next week when Minnesota comes to Lincoln and wins, will you change your tune". I thought the firing was inevitable regardless what was to happen them last two games.

i think a lot of people knew it was an indy or bust kind of year. and then they way we lost to wiscy? yeah, that was it to anyone not suffering from extreme myopia and a obsequious love of bo. we all knew that the already tired 70%+ win percentage and 9 wins arguments no longer had a leg to stand on. no matter what urb may have said before about firing 9 win coaches.

  8.

That was absolutely awesome Chamberlain. Well done.

X 2 It has a lot of truth to it about both HC's. I would only add that there were a lot of fans that saw through Bo's crap after the 2010 fiasco and were taunted for not being a "Boliever." This was totally ridiculous, as now finally the sheep have finally seen the light[/size]

    Somebody's got a messiah complex.

address the post, not the poster.

  9. I dont think anybody would argue Bo could have been better in most areas. But I think some of his anger came from the fact he did want to be here and it was becoming clear that would soon end.

But I refuse to go back and watch that nonsense knowing the outcome. It would be like hating the end of LOST but going back and watching the pilot.

was he really feeling the heat after beating ohio st. in 2011?

  10.

just for perspective on the record argument, bo's 2014 team is mince meat against callahan's 2007 schedule. even if 2014 was preseason SOS 18th (lulz!).

Probably true; but at some point it does come down to wins and losses.

it really is an apples and oranges argument. they were both bad fits here, but callahan's stay was short and we got over it quickly.

but bo's tenure leaves a worse taste in my mouth. probably because of the hope and initial success, then it became a purgatory, then it ended badly; and if you look at the whole of it, there really are not too many bright spots ('08 clemson win, '09 mizzou game and ccg, '10 mizzou game, big comebacks in '11, '12, win at mich. '13), and quite a few low lights, and overall just many unimpressive seasons that could have been special.

  11. Even as staunch a Pelini guy as I've been until the bitter end, you guys preaching about losing records are missing the point. And let's face it, had Bo been forced to coach a team in one of the top 2 conferences in the country in his last 4 years, it's quite possible, even probably, he'd a had 2, maybe even 3 losing seasons as well.

Now, it didnt happen, so for the sake of this discussion, all I can say is that both failed. Both had to job to do according to the expectations and desires of this program and fanbase, and both failed. But as far as changing my view on the Callahan years, no it doesnt change. I've preached about the lingering effects of that time, and still believe they did linger for a few years, but I never placed the blame on Callahan in a hatred type of manner. He took a job and did it to the best of what he knew. And frankly, while we distinguish experience, Bill was probably less experienced as a college head coach than Bo was. He had only been a head coach in the NFL two whole seasons, and had been out of the college game and atmosphere for years.

the negative callahan effect lingered throughout bo's best years here? and bo seemed to do worse the further he got from the callahan era? that is curious.
